88 BIRD AT THE TRACK

Well....we finally got the subframes on her, and took her to Houston Raceway Park. Scott Singleton was out there taking more great pictures. He got one of her launching. And man....she hooked up great. I outrun everyone to the 1/8 mile...then they pass me like i am sitting still. Even the new camaros couldn't beat me 1/8 mile. She runs a 1.896 60 ft., but she has no top end.(any ideas?)
Her best that night was a 14.41 at 92.11. Stock L98 with headers, 4th. gen rear w/2.73 gears.
Talk about people with too much money, there were 3 or 4 new Camaro's out there. They all still had dealer tags runnin' 13.0's. (yeah....i was jealous)
Anyway...we had a good time,and she didn't break anything. That's always a plus !!!

Re: 88 BIRD AT THE TRACK

you need more gear. 3.42 or 3.73.
slap a stealthram on top, should help it pull a little better up top.

Thanks Zepher, yeah I really need to get more air in.. And a set of of gears would make the low end even better.

Re: 88 BIRD AT THE TRACK

Looks like fun. One question though; will a 4th gen. rear fit in a Third Gen with no problems?

It will bolt right in. It will be 2 inches wider on each side thought, which is pretty much nothing.

Stall and gears. Might as well, throw a cone filter on the end of your intake as well. Nice looking Formula. What elevation is your track at?

Re: 88 BIRD AT THE TRACK

Yeah I have the K&N on the air sucker. And we are at sea level down here. Or if something like Ike hits us again, we are a lil' under sea level. That's when it get exciting !!! And the 4th. gen. rear was the best thing I could have done for the bird.(cause now I can find parts) The only thing I had to fig, were the E-brake cables. But that was no big deal.

Re: 88 BIRD AT THE TRACK

not bad, i went 14.4@94-95 ibelieve a couple of yrs ago at bradenton in the summer with just a hooker cat back, no AIR and delete cats.... def need gears, the 2.73's are highway gears, stickier tires, and cooler weather will help, maybe an adjustable fuel pressure regulator bumped a few psi higher than stock and the intake will help, but thats more money... good luck and keep us posted

Re: 88 BIRD AT THE TRACK

14.40 not bad for stock just headers, specialy since it was pobably 90 something degree's out. back in 1989 my formula ran a 14.70 bone stock if I remember right, pretty easy to get down in the high 13's, air foil, pulley, muffler, chip, etc etc. Back in the late 80's and early 90's high to mid 13's was a pretty fast street car. I used to run 12.70's in 93 or 94. I really don't ever remember getting beat by other street cars to much. Boy how times have changed, 13.0's out of the box..gotta love that.
