1986 worklog build up

so i recently acquired a 1986 firebird for $200.00. i think i got a good deal lol what about you guys. this is going to be a very slow build i dont plan for it to be done till next winter/summer after. here are some pics to go with for now/ i will get into the plans after the bump.

now for the plans i will be useing a world 400sbc as the base it will be getting etech aluminum heads, cams are dont dicided on yet but it will be getting a strocker crank and punched to a 427. she will also be getting a richmand 6 speed tranny and from the doner car i recived with this one she will be getting rear disk pocet fenders and a vented hood. i will be designing a custome exhaust and other parts. there is more but i will wait on that for now.

Re: 1986 worklog build up

the bad is that the front fender seems like it may be either out of line by a 16th of an inch or it has been hit when i go to put the other fenders on it i will know for sure . i didnt see any major rust there is a minor spot on the rear quarter panel about the size of a half dollar. other then that nothing jumps out i will find out more when i start taking it apart. first stage is body prep and working.

Looks like a great project starting base, especially for $200. Can you take some pictures of the interior and under the hood?

Re: 1986 worklog build up

the engine is just my buddys 383 strocker motor and a mucncie T4 transmission. interior i will take pics of when i get al the spare parts out of it lol like i said i got this a doner panle car with some usable drive train parts. and alot of spare parts like new black out tails and such i assume they came off the doner car? i think it is a formula i may also be useing the doors. they look very strait and have good rubber.

Re: 1986 worklog build up

we did that as a joke for the tuner forum i was a member of. it is only sitting on top of the other. that would be my friends dads bird at one point they had over twenty five different birds. i want to say that is the 79 but i could be wrong they own two that look the same on is a 79 one is a 78. i wanted that one but because the father and son both have one they are going to build twin birds. i think its a great idea but i dont see it going anywhere lol the son had been working on the bird i got for two years and you see where it is at lol. now the engine thats in it for now is a beast but not perfect. they will be giving me a donor engine to just get her on the road two my place and so i can drive her around and get a feel for the body before i go to working on it and designing a engine and driveline for her. more the likely i will be welding where all the spot welds are and making her more ridged. while also doing some strategic bracing. after i drive her i will decide if im going n/a or blown. at which point i will have to pick out my compression and cams. n/a or blown 427 sbc is a good base i dont know if i will go aluminum block or cast. i am thinking of using a electric water pump. but that depended on how much heat i produce when its all said and done. i am going twin electric fans pushing so it will look like there is no fan when you open the hood. i also have to figure out what gearing i am going to go with in the end. this is going to be street driven but im also not worried about gas thats why i am using a six speed. i will be updating the first post with a list of everything i will be using but this will be a long ongoing thread with very slow updating lol. im 28 my last car showed me i need to take some time i could have keep the last car but it was time to let her go and move on to a real car. ( btw the last car was a escort zx2 with stage three drag cams from comp. she jumped time for the last time i could have fixed it but like i said time to move on to a realy car and not one made out of legos lol.)

also side note why is my post count still zero? not that it matters just seems odd lol

It definitely needs a lot of work but looks like a nice solid project for $200. Good luck with it!!!

Re: 1986 worklog build up

Let me get this straight...You pay $200 for the car and then spend $19,600 on that same car to fix it up? You are joking....right?

Why not spend $2k more and buy something like this?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...=p4506.c0.m245

or this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-FO...=p4506.c0.m245

or....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...=p4506.c0.m245

Here is a nice 2 owner IROC--you could still put your 450 hp engine in this and save $9k!

Just my $.02

so let me get this strait you would rather buy something done and call it great then build something with youre hands right. any of thoughs cars you posted i would have to redo the whole engine to get what i wanted anyways so um no. but thank you for youre opinion.

durtybird that is want i mean no one wants to do the work anymore thats why you see so many in the junk yard. it makes me feel bad to see them treated that way.
