Different years/models of seatbelts?

Picked up a set of black seatbelts and buckles last year, was pretty sure i got them outa the same car but apparently not, none of the 4 buckles will take the seatbelt, just slides freely in and out , i know the belts are from a third gen but are there different kinds of seatbelts? Ive picked up 2 other sets and nobe if them worked either!!!

Only differences I know of:
82 - No front lower retractors and old school side-button recievers
83 - Old school side-button recievers, dual front retractors
84-92 - Dual front retractors and newer top-button recievers
89-92 - Rear shoulder mounted retractors

Re: Different years/models of seatbelts?

thats weird cause i picked up a set of the old style side button recivers and it didnt hold it in very well, i could just jiggle it out. and the newer style one just wont hold it at all. What other GM vehicles used the same seatbelts/recivers, as long as its close to the same year would they be the same or?

Re: Different years/models of seatbelts?

1) I would use the same year buckle and belt
2) The 1984-1991 had some issues with the button becoming brittle, There is a fix for it, but 1992 was improved
3) The 1992 receivers and the 1984-1991 buckles will work together.

If you use a 1982 set of belts, the carpet trim pieces on the bottom door jambs are different.

I want to think that someone has used 4th gen belts and gotten them to work... not sure about that, but It might bolt up... For some reason I want to think that the trim pieces by the door will not work perfectly with the 4th gen belts, but they do work for safety reasons... DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, please do some research on it before going this route...
