85 T/A, NASA racecar
I didn't start a build thread but here's a few pics (more to come) of my 85 Trans Am that I've built for NASA racing. Originally was gonna build it for American Iron but in the southeast we have a new Outlaw Vintage class that I can run it in with a little more freedom than AI.
Wanted something different and unique looking than just another 3rd gen Firebird, so the car received a 79 S/E decal package and done to look like what a 85 Bandit S/E might have been. Functional shaker hood, custom rear spoiler and all the gold trimmings pay homage to the 2nd gen T/A's.
More pics soon and probably some videos after its debut race next weekend.

I think it looks amazing!! Do you actually have a motor to match the shaker badge? I would like to see what you did to create the spoiler it looks flawless.

Re: 85 T/A, NASA racecar
Thx!! Engine is a fully balanced and blue printed 350 with aluminum heads, hydraulic roller cam and few other goodies. Shaker decals were custom made to read "T/A - 5.7. Shaker is also completely functional, I'll get some pics of how I did it.
Rear spoiler came with the car and was the start of the idea to make a 85 Bandit S/E out of it. No idea who makes or made it. I've been thinking of making a mold of it.

Re: 85 T/A, NASA racecar
Thx for the compliments!! I've been getting a few pm's on how the shaker is functional so I'll post some pics of how I did it. Honestly when you see how simple it is, you'll say "of course, why didn't I think of that!"
I've also been pm's about he cage & dash so I'll post pics and details soon. Thx again!!

Ok I'll answer a few of the questions I've been getting from PM's. First off here are a few pics of the interior and roll cage. Cage is .120 wall 1.75" diameter. Doors are stock, just gutted out. Gauges are custom made by Speedhut, tach has a built in progressive shift lights, other gauges have programmable warning lights.

Functional shaker hood. Flat Firebird hood hole cut after lots and lots and then a little more measuring. Simple carbed set up. Mine is a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a Holley 750 double pumper.
Edlebrock Pro Flow air cleaner kit. Fabbed a air box around the Edelbrock air cleaner and riveted them together. Coated the underside with undercoating. Fabbed a metal strap to hold the filter and assembly to the carb.
A stock 74-81 2nd gen shaker scoop sits on top of the custom airbox and is held in by 4 bolts. A 90 degree seal wraps everything and sits nicely to the bottom of the hood.

Rear spoiler. No idea who makes or use to make it, it was on the car when I got it. Might mold it.....
Oh and the exhaust is custom true duals with an H-pipe. Headers, pipes and NASCAR boom tubes exiting on both sides. Yes, really loud but sounds awesome on the track!!
thanks for the Pm's and comments! I'll post some videos after next weekend's race.

Subscribed! great looking car!
Yes, get rid of that air cleaner... If only someone made a good replacement element for these! (the only one I can get to fit under MY hood... c'mon K&N, Spectre, Edelbrock!)
