New to the forum. Help!
Hi everybody,
Im new to this forum, but not to the family. I have had S10's, a C10, a couple of Fieros and a couple of other GM power. But of what i had, a 3rd(and ideal 1st Gen) Camaro or Firebird have been my pursuit to happiness. So i finally got in my possession a 1991 Pontiac Firebird V6. The good its complete a little rust in the frame, but besides that clean.
I was hoping that i can get some advice from the Vet's in this forum.
What i want to do is replace the V6 with a V8. Yes, i know theirs a lot of question about the swaps. But my question is different and i wanted to get you folks thoughts on what to do.
You see, my dad say's i should just build a small block and make it carb. But my thoughts are LS1. You might also think, "so what, what your dad think. Its your car." Well i wouldnt be car nut, if it weren't for him. So i have to take into consideration his advice also.
Anyway...
So here are some option i was thinking:
First, what we actually have and can start working on right away.
We have a old 350TBI from a 95 Yukon and a 350 Vortec from a 97 Suburban. The plan for this is take the the short block from the TBI and use the Vortec Heads and used a conversion intake to either make the 350 Carb of Throttle Port Injection. Of cours add a bigger cam and the sort to have more hp and torque.
Second: Just build the TBI, but ive read before that these engines were bad at producing good HP & TQ. I dodnt know how tru is that, if true i rather spend the mone on something that would be worth it.
Third: Just build the Vortec, but again i heard the same as the TBI. So you know what i think.
But, i did hear TBI with Vortec Head did some improvement, specially with a good cam and intake.
And the option that are going to make me spend $$$$.
Fourth: LT1 from 96 Impala SS, Ive look around and they seem to be getting cheaper since every one in starting to go LS route.
Fifth: Old 60's or 70'S SBC and stroke it.
Sixth: LS Swap.
My preference is the LS1, but the budget for its seems high. I really would like it to be EFI.
With your experience, where can i get the best performance for money.
My current budget is around to $2000.00 give it or take.
Let me know.
Thank You.

If your budget is $2k, stay away from an LS swap, a lot of them run double that, depending on what you do

I don't know what LS1's go for in your area, but what if you went with a 5.3, 6.0, or even a 4.8 LS? Would it help your bottom line at all as far as initial cost?
