If you are really worried about fuel starvation, and want to keep your original/original style tank....

Re: Project ScrapWeight 89 Formula
So, I've been silent for a while,
The project is still going it's just slow.
I have a wix corvette filter and a walbro 255 sitting at the ready. I also just today ordered some hoses and AN fittings, and some of the screw on quick connect fittings, so that I can try to mock up what I need to do fuel system wise.
I found that russell makes some hard line to AN adapters that dont require me to flair the end of the fuel line. If that works like I think (and hope..) I could run the existing 3/8 feed line to the motor under the car and save myself some custom plumbing.
I am going to use the stock tank and a stock style sending unit. This car was fuel injected from the factory so.. I'm not terribly worried about this right now in terms of starvation etc.
I've been trying to find a parts car, but I'm having a lot of trouble. Only one salvage yard has any 3rds and they want me to work on them in the mud as is where is with kudzu growing all over them. It doesn't make this easy.
When I DO find thirds at all for sale they're WAY unreasonable in price (beat up non-running 4 and 6 cyls for $3k.. you get to keep it friend.)
If soeone wanted to give me $3k for mine right now.. I'd take it with a smile on my face.
Hell, I'd probably even deliver it. And I've got a much better car than these people do. I'm just missing some things.
TBH, I wish I woulda gotten an 88-94 silverado instead of going the Fbody route. Parts are proving really hard to find and when you DO find them, people think they're worth gold.

Re: Project ScrapWeight 89 Formula
I hate to say, but I am legitimately considering cutting my losses on this thing.
I was looking today at what I need to do to get it ready to accept a motor, I'm still several grand out on parts that I need to buy.
new calipers, new pads, new rotors, new hoses, new struts, new shocks, springs, sway bar endlinks, control arms (rear) panhard bar, control arm bushings, caster plates, master cylinder, steering gear drag link tie rod ends, pitman arm, ls1 motor mounts, sending unit and about $150 worth of hoses and adapters.
I also need an a/c box on the engine bay side and the various components that go with it.
I can put the car back together to sit on its own wheels, and cut my losses, or I can keep going, but I'm on the fence at this point and need opinions.
the parts I listed alone are probably $2-3k worth of parts, plus ya figure $2k for a motor, another $1500 for heads, cam, oil pump, lifters etc. to tune it up, headers, transmission drive shaft, this is going to easily be a 10-15k$ car, and I will never get anywhere near that much out of it.
I guess i just severely overestimated the availability of parts for this thing, old stock, junkyard, and aftermarket. I thought.. hey.. camaros and firebirds are popular, so I should have no trouble. Apparently not for third gens....
So I'm on the fence as to what I should do. Ya know if I want to put my new fuel pump and filter in I've got another $300 or so to spend.
I've become attached to the car, and would really prefer to finish it, regardless of the cost and time, but.. life is hinting that it may be in my way in the near future, and I can't be exhausting my savings repeatedly for this thing. I might even have to move and wont be having a shop at my next place to do this level of work.

Cars are almost always a loss, so you do it out of love/fun. The only vehicle i could probably get out of what I have in it is my 69 Suburban and I have about $13,000 in it right now. With the rest of the money I have spent on cars over the last 18 years, I could have half paid for my house by now, but it is a sickness and I love it and I won't stop until I die, or run out of money completely

I get that, and I agree, I didn't buy this to turn a profit, but life has changed in ways I couldn't imagine in only a short time period. I don't know that I have "enough time" in the next several years to finish this without it getting in the way.

Re: Project ScrapWeight 89 Formula
I think I'm going to sell/part out this car.
Hate to do it, but I can't keep this project going.
Lots of good parts here.
Don't want to ship anything of large size. If anyone's interested let me know. I'm talking to someone right now about the whole thing but if that doesn't work out, I'll be posting a formal ad.

It's always disappointing when you have to give up on a project, but everyone has to decide for themselves where that point is. I hope the project, or parts of it, find good homes.
