Just a thought, but i know that some of the local car clubs and other guys around here sometimes put their cash together and rent out a small airport runway for the day every once in a while. While i live right down the road from the track, this is often a lot more fun b/c everyone gets a ton of runs in all day and its not as expensive. just a thought.

Donnie
airport runway?? hmm, wouldn't have any track times, but maybe some interesting races, I just hope people would not end up arguing, you know how that stuff goes, so maybe not, but a good idea.

im not to sure about beating the **** out of my car either. if something breaks then i will have to find a ride back to my place. get my truck and a trailer. drive the whole way back down in my truck. then drive the whole way back home. i might make one or two runs but im not beating it.

Guys, update.

I'm really leaning towards no track now, I'm in the process of looking at some parks in central/northern md and NE MD. and creating a webpage that you can check up on. Instead of sifting thru all of this.

Just an idea look for a park in Northern MD, and if people want to go to the track they can caravan over the one day and those who don't want to participate can just watch or whatever..........

I haven't been to a track, but are they pretty packed over there on weekends???

Well, perhaps we could have a police caravan to the track, then there can be the ones that watch and the ones that want to run. As it seems most may not want to run, they can still watch and hang out.

I know Fri nites are pretty busy, but still ample parking, this would be like a Sun. morning so it wouldn't be so busy I would think.

I'm goin to check into some parks near Cecil Co. track.

I'm gonna be at cecil friday so ill make sure i track someone down and try and get estimated dollar amount for 2 lanes i just need to know what day u guys wanna go because it could make a difference. I'm gonna have my hood and new paint job by next spring. CANT WAIT!

Mark,

My offer still stands if you want to join us at the Ameican Iron Shootout in early May at Cecil County Dragway. If you have a large volume of cars, I will gaurantee you your own class plus money to the winner. Also, video coverage since a full length of this event will be made.

I will own the track for the day and it will only be American made cars that will be there. Let me know, it still stands as is.

Well, I'll have to check into the dates, I just don't think May 3/10th is possible, too many people in HS/College, and several are traveling quite a bit for this.

You dont have to rent a track or anything but at least make the meet in a town with a track. That way some of the guy who want to go run can go during an test/tune or whatever. The airport thing would be awesome...no times but i know it would be alot more fun...also try to find a town that has cruises on the weekends...we have to punk everybody out thats all there is to it.

Feel the same

Hey All,
I agree with what seems to be the general consensus....if I drive that far, I will not run on the track...the distance will be stress enough on the bird. Everything else sounds pretty good though. Still going for southern MD. (Coming from So.West Va, that's aout as far as I will go.

From Yahoo Maps

from my dorm to the "National Meet"

19 hours 1 minute

So why exactly is this a national meet??? If it was national, it'd be centrally located. Call it the Eastern Seaboard meet.

Well, that's a name that was suggested to me, and I went with it. It's open to all 3rd Gens, so doesn't mattter where it's held, if it were in Oklahoma people in Alaska would not be happy, cause it isn't close enough.

National does not mean it has to be central,
besides ther are not alot of people out there is kansas.
a national rally is ether on the west coast or east coast, or somewhere near it.

Mark, you need to try to gather a list of people going. So far it doesn't look like turnout is going to be that great. As for the track thing...ill be driving 4 hours and Im gonna race...there will be at least (hopefully) 100 3rd geners there im sure someone will be able to help you fix your problem. Just go grab a credit card and take incase you have to replace something. Unless you run your car HARD you probably wont break anything.

The cruise is a must...the mustang and import guys would **** themselves if they saw 100 3rd gen camaro/firebirds caravaning around.

Whatever happens Mark count me in...BTW why are people from Northern MD complaining about the meet being in So. MD?? It cant take very long to get across MD its tiny!!

For the people saying they dont trust there car for the trip THEN FIX IT i drove my car all the way from Huntinton, WV to Daytona Beach this summer...took me 2.5 tanks of gas to drive 13 hours... Dads 95 mustang GT took 3 tanks...comon that aint that bad.

COMON BOYS LETS MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

No one, in MD was bitching with it being in So. Md, the guy was saying how I was thinking no. md at first then wanted so. md.
I am making a list, that's what I'm doing with the email thing. I have around 150 interested maybe slightly more.

But if its in Northern MD ill have to drive farther waaa waaa. Comon there is no perfect location for this thing. Im coming from southwestern WV right on the edge of the ohio down near the corner. Ill be driving all the way across WV which is quiet a bit farther then alot of people will have to go.

and unless something major happens Im going. Think of it as a weekend trip away from home. If its in your backyard then its not gonna be any fun. I dont know about you all but i enjoy getting away for the weekend from time to time.

Mark you may want to look into any local companies that are interested in being there.....

Maybe some major auto shops or something like that are in the local area of the meet....

I got someone checking into that, also I've contacted several vendors and most want to come. Also check my website for the newest update.

Maple Grove, PA ???

Didn't have time to read 10 pages of replies, so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet...

Did anyone consider gathering at Maple Grove Dragstrip ???

A local speed shop rents the track 2x a year...
Paplosky's Speed & Custom here in Reading, PA...

I don't know how much it would cost, but I've been to the events that Paplosky has sponsored at the track...

They have a cruise, music, burnout contest and people to drive/burnout down the track...

You could call George Case or John Krupiak (both big-wigs) at the track and inquire if you were interested...
(610) 856-7200

You could also call Charlie Paplosky, and get info from him...
Paplosky's #:
(610) 678-6916

I don't know how good an idea it would be to invade some unsuspecting town with 100+ Camaros...

I think a dragstrip would be the best place to meet, keeping law enforcement entirely out of the picture...

*edited to add...

There are plenty of hotels in and around Reading and Morgantown...

Don't forget, an old cruising hotspot is only 25 minutes from Maple Grove...

Any of you guys ever cruise High St. in Pottstown ???
I got laid so many times from girls I picked up there...
(Those were the good ole days)

Another Idea...

I'm a member at a sportsmans club here in Reading, and the property could easily handle 100+ cars and tents if you guys wanted to do a woodstock campout type thing...

No showers, but enough indoor facilities to feed and support the whole gang for the weekend...
There is a large kitchen, with a few fridges and 2 bathrooms...

We've had shindigs there before that supported several hundred people...
Alcohol, music, and sleazy women are all welcome at the club...

I could easily arrange to make it happen...

Email me if this sounds like something you guys would be into...

You guys could bring your guns along too, they have a 100 yard rifle range
