It's just that nobody is from the waterloo, Cedar falls, Cedar Rapids area that I've seen. Everybody is 2-4 hrs away.

Another one from the Waterloo area here. Two third gens, two computers, a Blazer, an Impala, and two motorcycles (Triumph & Honda). I do go to Des Moines to Porkeys 2-3 times per year. I use to live in Des Moines, and also Nevada.

Lived in Des Moines in the late 60's, in Nevada the early 70's, and in the Waterloo area since then. I have not ran at the strip in Cedar Falls. The last time I was out there was 3-4 years ago before all the updates. I can say I went to that strip a lot when it opened in the mid 60's. I prefer sprint car races in Knoxville a few times per year, and on TV I follow Formula 1. I try to get to the local area car shows also. I did have a post in the Midwest region board last March inquiring if anyone was going to be at Porkeys in Des Moines on the weekend of the Drake Relays, but go no replies.

UI

well, i'm out here @ iowa city--university of iowa...but i think that's only gonna be for this semester-transferring cuz of roommate problems and the university isnt doing anything to help me out...i mean, serious issues, but that's another story...i'm originally from IL, so i'm not real sure if iowa city is close enough to qualify for this thread, but i figured i'd throw it in. i've seen a few nice 3rd gens on campus: mine, of course , there's a 91/92 t-top Z28 (white/black stripes), and a 91/92 red Formula. still too many ricers tho. i swear, every time i see them, they nearly hit a pedestrian. i guess it's best they have those fart pipes on there--give some warning they're coming. hehe.

How long u been gone? The track changed ownership, now it's got 3 owners, the main one being the goofy f..ker that owns Byron. We're starting to get a few more cars with the updates they put in place. They started a "night racing" thing where all the kids can grudge race/TT from midnight till 2am then from 2 am till whenever it's actual bracket racing. I took out 250 cars the first event I attended if that tells ya anything-I have more fun picking on the ricers than racing my own kind.

Well you know the street racin thing is kinda done away with up on Uni. all the cops chased the kids away we all got our cars together one night this summer and crusied like we did in high school-there was hardly anyone up there at all, especially amereican iron, so we still hogged all three lanes 3 deep and went real slow to **** off the **********-r-s (gotta spell it that way cause now it's a dirty word) all the kids now just hang out in whatever parking lot they can find till 5-0 kicks them out. And you can remember how the kids tried to watch the cars shows and duplicate it the bad-*** stuff on their own ride-but don't have the money to do it right so it looks stupid, that's still happening up there. The few "engagments" I've been in out there with guys thinking they're fast just made them feel stupid getting stomped by a POS lookin firebird-that'll be different come spring though. I'm really too old to hang out on the cruising strip plus I got a family so I'm not gonna jeprodize all that by wasting some goof ball youngster and have something go wrong. I still like their looks when they hear what a motor is supposed to sound like.
How's the women scene down there, I spent a week in Miami awhile back and it took another week to get my tounge to go back in my mouth-especially after seeing all the corn fed chicks up here-u know what I mean. Hey, have a good one and when ya know your coming to town-hopefully sometime when the weather is good, we could hook up and swap stories.

I remember doing all that stuff, still did the 3 wide on university going really really slow........

Hooked up cars are far and few between up there im Iowa, always hated the gravel roads.....

The women scene..... .............It took me about 6 months before it got normal to see great looking women everywhere i went.........The beach........:hail: :hail:......you get to see all those good looking women, half naked..........I know about the Iowa girls......unfortunately, but there are still a few good around, but they are hard to find......

Cops are much harder up there cause they have nothing to do with their time, except mess with people.........I figured the street racing scene would be somewhat alive up there......they have movie screens to see the fast & the furious....lol...lol....

It's good to hear people from Iowa, you don't find many that really appreciate cars......Well I'm out, i'll visit these boards once in a while to see what's going on.......plus when i visit up there in the summer, i'll post, you might see the 92 RS driving around, and do some crusin or something of the sort...........

I'll just be sure to keep the 92 in check!
I had a buddy that moved down to Florida and we stopped by when he first moved, his girl was bad-***. Funny thing was he treated her like dirt-we were all like WTF dude, are u crazy she's bad. He smiled and said I show ya later. Later we went out and he said look around ya, this ain't Iowa no more boys, this is chick heaven, if I lose my girl now, just look at what there is to replace her
There's our fair share of street racin, but it's mainly between friends, cause we do it for real EVERY weekend. But you know the economy and availablity of parts just does'nt support alot of for real tricked out cars. That's why everybody blows nuts when they see a car with fresh paint or a new set of rims..oooooh that's sweet-if they'd only get away from the state they'd see.
Later, I'll be lookin to hear from ya next summer.

In the DSM area, street racing is pretty big. Now is slow time of year, but this spring, there are 3 main areas to race. LOTS of cars...mostly **** though

A few nice domestics. Cops are generally not too bad, unless there is a huge convention and everyone is getting out of hand. Usually, the area outside of town is where the most trouble is, cops from another city hate the street racers so always bust em up. Oh well, that is the best place to race too.

Dixon(N. of Douglas) is the best area, marked out with start and finish, industrial area, so not too many people to complain.

Thats cool that you are at least going to college. A lot of my friends are loafing this year, their stupid for not going now. Anywayz, no new news here in boring ole Iowa. Same as usual. Although there has been no trace of snow yet. Also, it hadnt rained for about 30 days until tuesday. The powerball is up to $160 million. No one won it yesturday, so im sure it will be over $200 million by the next drawing. Its the 3rd highest jackpot ever. Other than that, no other news. Whats going on there in Florida? Hows the weather?

After the first play of the game, I was like, yeah!!! Iowa gonna stomp 'em. But then the rest of the game I think the referee's got a constilation prize for everytime they threw a flag. Iowa looked RUSTY as hell. Shoulda had more time practicing than layin out in the sun. It was horrible, damn!

My car is in a serious state of disarray, guy just started doing the body work tonight. He got my hood done and squirted the under side, then called me about 10:15 last night and wondered if I thought that was red/red or maybe a little on the orange side (he does alot of show cars, but has a serious 12oz. problem) so I stopped by tonight got the PPG book out, compared to the color of the underside and everything was cool, so they got some work to do now FINALLY. Once I get it back I need to get the manuel steering box on and the new CSI electric water pump so I can get the alternator switched out and mounted down low on the drivers side. Then buy all the stuff so it's pretty outside then focus on the interior and finally back to the drivetrain. Probably be stuck in the low 13's for awhile cause you know how expensive all the interior stuff is, **** my seats are $900, Weld draglites + new slicks and front runners $1300,... so on and so forth, can't wait to get taxes done so I can start hiring people for the summer season and get some jack rollin in so I can blow it!
Right now we're building a 92 S-10 that I can run in Super Pro no box next season, stopped by Spere's and got a price for a 383 roller-all said the drivetrain is gonna run $15,000 at this point, not including rims/tires, electronics. Tryin to pick up some more sponsors to help out, but the crowd turn out is always low at the drags and alot of companies know this, so they stick their money in the mud packers instead.
Once I get the bird back together and re-tuned, we're planning on comin to CR for some of your cruises and hang out, I'll give ya a holler on the other site u frequent so we can hook up for a grudge match-NO NOS though!!!
Here's the last pic I took before it went to the squirt booth, we just installed the cage but the rest of the car is missing EVERYTHING now-it's bad, just hope I remember where everything goes again

Here is another one in Ames

Hey I am in Ames (white 91 firebird). I graduated from ISU (may 2002). Anyone want to get together and talk cars. I would like to make an image section at the bottom of my messages, anyone good at it, I cannot do it in the least. I know how to build computers (somewhat) but hve not played with the fun programslike photo shop.

You doin the cage yourself, or having a buddy do it/help ya? Mine took 5hrs. total from the time we fired the chop saw till the paint was dry, went in really nice. Leave your door panels on and only bolt your seats with maybe 2 nuts, so you can adjust your door bars and KNOW the doors will shut. my 2 cents, other thatn that be prepared for a sore neck the next day-was'nt bad till I had to play contorsionist once all the bars were in place and I was doing the finish welding.
