I was planning on attending earlier this year, but I'm moving into a new house this weekend. I was really looking forward to getting a picture of me, my car and a bunch of Hooters girls draped all over and around it. I will be attending a race at Milan this coming Thursday though (8/5) - me and a bunch of guys from work are renting the track.

as for the cruise, more then likely we'll be setup directly across the street. none of the guys will get up at 4 am to reserve spots.

Sorry I couldn't reply until now (yesterday was a hectic all day thrash for me). You didn't miss much. When I pulled my car in for tech inspection, they asked for my comp. license, which I didn't have yet. Since I haven't run a sub 10 second car @ Milan before, I was under the assumption that a comp. license wasn't required until you got into the 8's, per IHRA rules. Despite having a certified chassis, and correct safety equipment for sub 9 second passes, they limited me to making 10.0+ second runs. It seems that they require a NHRA license for ALL 9.0-10.0 second cars, despite being IHRA sanctioned. Now if that wasn't bad enough, upon doing my burnout, I found that the trans wouldn't shift into 3rd gear. I staged my car, launched with my typical wheels up in the air, hit second gear (no problem), got to about 1/2 track and shifted into 3rd, and nothing. I hit the rev limiter, and thought I was still in second gear, so I instinctively shifted again (thinking for some reason I missed 3rd) and it went into neutral, so I let out of the throttle and coasted to the end of the track. Well, after determining my direct clutch went away (it was in 3rd gear, but slipping on the return road), and I still have first and second left, I was just going to make 1/8th mile passes. After the 3rd pass, the trans started to make serious grinding noises on coast down and the return road, and I barely made it back to my pit (it was starting to lock up). In addition to losing the direct clutch, it seems that I lunched my planetaries also. It's a good thing that I just put a winch in my trailer! Between the tech inspector and my fragged trans, I was just cursed into not making any sub 9 second passes that day, no matter what.

Other than my problems, the track itself was less than optimal. It seems that they just don't do as good of a job scraping/spraying the track on the rented days. On my last pass, my car was going all over the place up through second gear. Most all the other quicker cars were having problems too.

For those who might be interested, here's a LINK to photos from the Milan event. Only 2 pics of my car in there, before the trans decided to really go south. One of the most impressive cars there was Jim Filipowski's NSCA record holding '93 Camaro (It's the white one in the pics). I seen it rip off a 8.4 second pass on drag radials, on less than optimum track conditions.
