The 'help TJfive0' thread!
Okay, for legal purposes, this is not a registered charity...
I have decided to start a charity thread for my long distance buddy, TJfive0. TJ lives near Milwaulkee, WI and sold his nice 5 speed TBI t-tops IROC back a few months ago... He sold it to finance a couple of important financial obligations - school (we all respect this, right?), and a pending engagement, which requires a ring (those of us who have been married at least five years can tell him he's NUTS for taking the plunge!).
So, TJfive0 is now driving a 2000 Toyota Echo! Poor guy!
Those of you who've seen his threads know that he is trying really hard to get out of that Echo and into a thirdgen.
I have a bunch of spare T/A parts in my garage, and I'm going to sell them and donate the proceeds toward a third gen for TJ.
I am going to try to find him any IROC, preferably TPI, and with t-tops. He loves 5 speeds, but he realizes that he will be lucky to end up with even a 700R4!
Does anyone in the WI or ILL area have a car they will sell for really cheap? A project car would be fine, but something that could possibly make it back to Milwaulkee would be fantastic.
He doesn't really have any 'car' money available (in other words, his mom and girlfriend will both kill him for spending what few dollars he has on picking up another IROC!), so having to tow a car back will probably be out of the question for him, and I'm too far away to help (Beverly Hills, CA).
I am going to donate the cash from my parts (probably between $300 and $500?), and he might have a rusty Suburban or a Mercury Sable to throw in the deal.
Does anybody have an IROC or a Z28 that they would be willing to sell cheap?
For those of you asking 'why should we help him? I wouldn't mind help getting a car', well, I don't really have an answer.
I guess I can relate - I've had to sell cars due to finances or garage space in years past, and I know the heartache and regret that comes along with it. I also share his love of third gen cars, and I know how I felt without one, which is why I went to the trouble of buying my 'vert and shipping it back sight unseen from St. Charles, Ill all the way to Beverly Hills, CA. Plus, if you see the car he's driving now, you'll see why I feel bad! He actually wrote in to Pimp my Ride!!!
He's just a nice kid, and I think it would be fun to try to ask people to join me and try to help a fellow third gen fan get back behind a small block again!
So, what do you guys think? Anyone want to help?
Tell me if you have a donor car, if you want to pitch in, or if you want to just give TJfive0 a hard time - I know giving him crap about wanting to trade his 2000 Echo when I see him posting to classifieds never fails to make me laugh!

Ok '87 IROC VERT,
Now that I'm through lmao for the past 15 mins, maybe I can type something.
I just had to vote to help the d00d out. since I myself, as you all probably saw my threads, was and is kinda in the same precarious predicament. But I'm not driving an Echo
and camaro-less. I do have 2 but none are irocs.
But I can survive a season or two with what I have and I do feel for you TJ.
See, I told you that you should have sold me the iroc and we coulda made a deal........oh...nevermind...
Well d00d, I'll...and hopefully ..we all will put forth a sincere effort in this quest for you the dream car you seek.
Good luck....and please post pics of the Echo for our entertainment.....uh I mean so we have an idea whats on the table.

I've got an '87 Z28 that I picked up last year for pretty cheap. It is by all means a project car. It is a 5.0L TPI 700r car that will need some serious work. It is located in Springfield IL and will have to be trailered or towed. It's pretty much all there, but will need some parts...... I'm not donating this car, but would be willing to make one he!! of deal on it.....

You should see the 1k staples that hold up the headliner!
His car is really interesting, but let me tell you, I've ridden in it and it's far from the performance of a thirdgen. BTW, I do have a trailer and truck to haul a car, but Tony you'll have to pay for gas for me to drive from point to the location and back to point, not to be a cheap *** or anything :P . Maybe when the family and I come down for christmas we could snag something? Also, did some guy email you? He wanted to sell his z28 for a good gas milage car. I told him you had a good car for him.

I don't think I got an e-mail.
TIME, the clothes hangers were a joke a couple months ago. I used to make long trips to IN and back and I would periodically eat stuff on the way. Those are left over clothes hangers that we used to close the bags. So now the running joke is that the clothes hangers hold the car together.
And yeah, there are about 1k staples holding the headliner, tape and screws holding the right front headlight in tight, no trunk lock, but duct tape to keep out intruders, busted up dash, and no radio. It is a beauty. At least it is a limited edition with power locks and windows.
By the way, that was a pic of it last year, it has gotten worse, the rust is killing it. The silver paneling on the passanger side has now fallen off due to extensive rust, lol

Thanks Jermey, but if you can't tell, this was all 87 IROC VERTS idea. It is rather interesting, but fun.

I do and don't regret it. I wish I had it, but I know I can't afford it, so there wasn't much I could do.
I wonder who the 3 are who want me to suffer as well, plus I wonder who the 3 are that want to help?
Time, is that a no on your Z28?

No, the word itself isn't, but they block it on this site. I am thinking they might block it bc there still might be third gen owners with "them" so it wouldn't be fair to make fun of "them"

I surprised by some of the things that they block, like Uncle Ben's **** (the four letter word for risotto and slang for Japanese cars/bikes will appear in stars...)
However, I fgure that since Dirk is nice enough to host this site for free, and he allows us all to use it, it's his right to filter as he sees fit, even if I disagree - and I do

Tony, i'll consider giving you my edelbrock preformer carb and edelbrock intake for that motor in the 87 Z28. As for rims, Mike would prolly sell you those Z28 rims I gave him, for pretty cheap. Plus, just think of how coool it would be to build your OWN wiring harness. Borrow mikes shop manual and go at it!

I'll keep that in mind Greg. We (87 IROC VERT and I) are trying to piece the cheapest thing together. This throws in another option for now. I would say with the cost of the car being $800, we could probably get her running and possibly decent rims for a total of $1000. But if you throw in cost of trailering it, it would go up by about $100 to pay for gas.
Remember, that is $1100 if you would throw the Carb and intake in for free, and I don't know if you would want to do that, and I wouldn't expect you too. You're not RICH like the REST of these guys!!!

But hell, if you could afford to donate that, then I know TIME can afford to match your donation!!!! And since 87 IROC VERT is LOADED, he can double match that plus what he already is goign to do lol
(ps we wont tell any of the wives, so it will be ok)
Just look at the donations as money spent on your own car but you accidentally broke so you lost out on the money.

New reply for this!!!
I have an even better IDEA!!!
Greg, you can donate the the Carb and intake, then TIME can donate his non running (or running really crapy) red z28, then 87 IROC VERT can pay for the gas money to tow it back to WI.
Then we can worry about rebuilding it when it gets to WI, lol

I vote for that - Time? Greg? You guys in?
Maybe we can get Lon, Denny and a few other sponsors to donate some 'extra' parts in exchange for some kind of post that follows progress of the car and maybe highlights their products?
I am just full of good ideas!

I am for it!!
You know what would be even better!!!
Get people to donate, and donate whatever. Then once there is a car established, all donors get a say in what will be done to it. Then people who would like a say can donate.
Then people can keep donated and deciding what is done to the car!!!
Then I would keep a detailed progress of what is going on, I mean I do have a digital camera, so that would be no problem.
So whoever Lon and Denny are (hopefully more too), they can donate too, then like 87 IROC VERT said, I can showcase their parts, etc.
It would be a blast, it would be fun, and best of all, I would get a 3rd gen out of it!!!

So whoever Lon and Denny are (hopefully more too), they can donate too, then like 87 IROC VERT said, I can showcase their parts, etc.
It would be a blast, it would be fun, and best of all, I would get a 3rd gen out of it!!!

Wait just a cotton pickin' minute!
Too late on the red 1.I kinda likes my red Z, in fact I already started working on it.
But I do have a 92 RS that DOES run. just needs paint. only down side is it has a salvage title. But what does that matter? only a value issue. There is no frame damage. Insurance co. got sorry.
So when I get my Z28 running, We can go from there. (rubbing chin)
But your ideas are good....minus the red Z.
oh...and you can call me Steve

By the way, the picture in your avitar doesn't look like you are a steve. I was thinking more of a..... well not sure, but not Steve, lol.
What does a salvage title mean anyways?

Well, many things can apply.
In this case, The car was sitting for sale in the front yard of who I bought it from.
A lady came off the street and hit it, taking out a few shrubs and a flower bed along the way.
It ruined the nose, left fender but not the hood. But I put hood from an iroc on it and replaced the nose, fender and the other fender was alreadt dented so I changed it also. As well as the drivers door because it was caved in already. It runs and drives fine. No smoke, no leaks and passed emissions just 2 weeks ago.
The insurance company refused to repair it due to age and mileage combined. (188,000+). Thats what he told me. It was his insurance dealings. I just bought it wrecked. I've been driving it since March or April 2004.
Also a salvage title drops the value significantly. Dunno how much though. But if you plan to keep a car with one, what does it matter.
As for the av.....its an old 1 I use in all forums both car and computer forums. Just a bad habit I guess.

No, the avatar thing is cool.
And with the salvage title, can you still insure it and drive it like a normal car?
And if you got the Red Z28 running (the one I can't have
) How much to part with the RS?

I can't speak for East Overshoe where you live, but here in CA a car with a salvage title can be registered and driven like any other car once it's had a safety inspection to get the title. If Steve already has title (he said he has a salvage title) then you're all set. Some insurance companies don't like it, but most major companies are fine with it. You might want to ask your company. Usually it will only affect the value in the case of a loss.
It sounds like a great deal - Steve, what are you willing to sell it for?

I don't think he would sell it until he gets his red Z28 running solid, bc I am pretty sure his RS is his daily driver.
Anymore ideas from you 87 IROC?
I am getting bored, nothing to do here, and no more threads or e-mails to respond to.
Maybe I will make a spreadsheet about the cars.
