87 IROC VERT hit the nail on the head. I have full coverage on it nonetheless. And yes I have the title. the insurance co (State Farm)never did ask me about it. They just looked at it, got the vin# and gave me my card. I'm sure though, that if it were stolen or wrecked or whatever the value is probably half, imho. Of course they cover everything I have. My 2 camaros, My wifes Crown Vic and my 3 homes. No, I live in only one and lease 2.
Hey, once I get the red Z running, if ever since I will be doing it myself. I'll make you a great deal. Maybe a song and dance.
If you can hold off or until something else comes along, go ahead with that spreadsheet. share it with us. I'm still reading up on these cars myself. Learning all I can.
I can remeber like it was yesterday when I bought a brand new bright metallic Blue IROC in Dec. 1985 after I saw them advertised on TV. After I ordered everything I wanted on it, every power options etc, I think I paid somewhere in the 17-18,000 range. Dont know if I was ripped or not, I just wanted it. i had it a few months and she burned to the grouind in my driveway. We still to this day dont know why.I've wanted another since but this 91Z28 is nice for now. She's a clean one.
Well, theres part of my life story. I'll shut up now and go to bed and dream about somebody giving me a brand new 350.

You guys are funny.
No more new ideas from me yet, at least not until I get home and on my PC. I am at my other house (under construction, but my email and web servers are still here, so I come by once a week) but when I get back to where I am living for now, I will post some ideas.
TJ, yeah, please do a spreadsheet so we can sort out what's out there. If you can't post it here, I will post it on a web server at my house and then give you a link to it.
In the meantime, anyone got a deal for TJ?
Thanks to all!

wow...that is one heck of a 3rd gen list.....

Yes, that is one heck of a list!!!
Now the hard part, deciding which is best and which will be close to the cheapest and best deal.
Th 1982 Z28 from Denton Tx has some other guys interest, it might be gone soon, but we have other options too.
Well donors, what do we have here?
Anything that looks good?
I think they all look good in their own seperate ways, but then again, I don't have much cash here, lol

I was wondering what that was in my email. I almost deleted it!
It was titled "Car option" and had an XLS attachment and from an unfamiliar address. I have to wait until I get home. My home PC had Microsoft Word-Excel etc etc thats needed to open it.

oh ok, I was able to do a preview on it.
Good job.
Hey On mine you can put "nice" on the interior. Except for the dashpad of course. It has 4th gen cloth charcoal seats and replced black int.
$700 on the price.

I say we grab Time, er, Steve's car...

Well we can't get Steve's yet, he needs to get his Red Z28 running, or I guess WE need too!!!
Is that 188,000+ miles on the original engine and tranny?
And how did it suffer no frame damage from that crazed lady that jumped the ditch and nailed it?
And there are no problems with it except for the salvage title, paint, and bad dash pad?
I WANT IT

Yep.
I sure would like to get her running as sson as I can.
I can't stand seeing a nice car just sit there in the garage.
Only thing is it's going to take me a little ..ahem..Time, to get it done.
Tj, I noticed that 84 Z28 just 160 miles from you for $500. What about that ? close to you and cheap.

87 IROC VERT..we posted at the same time and I just saw it.
I'm going to need maybe an engine at the most. I know I have to pull it anyways since the rear seal seems to be leaking. I'm trying to find one locally for cheap.

The 84 near me isn't bad but, it needs a tranny, choke, carb adjusted, temp and gas gauge shot, bent radiator support, and bumper and headlight mounting bar.
No clue on how much the mounting bar is and how much it would cost for labor or how hard it is.
Gauges, don't know if it is just a wiring problem or what.
Carb can be adjusted easily hopefully.
Bent radiator support would need some welding, which my dad might be able to do.
Not sure how much a choke and a tranny would cost.
And the interior has a red headliner, maroon seats, and the rest is gray, and the back seat is torn pretty good i think.
I guess it wouldn't be bad if I knew I could get the parts and the overall cost wouldn't be too much.
This car too needs paint bc it is two different colors.
Don't know if this is good or bad, but yours almost seems the best choice at 700.
I mean if all your RS needs is paint and a dashpad, that is the best I would think.
But you guys talk it over, figure out how much it would cost to get this 84 near me in beloit running.
And it sounds like he would be willing to get it to me on trailer.

TJ, the '84 sounds like the best bet - will run with little effort, and the guages, big deal - my oil pressure is intermittant, and my temp is DOA. I will fix them soon, but since I only drive the car one day a week and I watch it carefully, no worries.
The radiator support - that's just labor. Tranny's aren't that much, you can probably get a good used one on here for a couple hundred at most. Check some of the parts cars with blown motors, etc for a really good deal if you are willing to pull it out. It's winter (well, not here!) and I know I didn't like getting under cars in the snow when I lived in Boston. So, maybe you'll find someone that would rather take less money for a tranny if it means they don't have to get under a car and pull it...
So, you could work on the other stuff for almost free while you search out a tranny. That would be a pretty good deal.
Then maybe in the spring or summer you can crape up cash to fix the little stuff that third gen's always need, and maybe paint it?

What about the headlight and bumper mount? Easy fix or no? Expensive?
What about a choke? How does that work with the carb needing adjustment and it has no choke? Expensive or what?
So we are looking at $500 for the car and maybe $200 for a tranny.
Then maybe a misc $100 or so.
So I guess at best it could be running for $800, granted the interior would look like a clown lol, adn the exterior is general lee orange and maroon.

The main thing would be to get it running, then tinker with the other items along the way until you get it the way you want it.

As a project car, you can take your time and adjust the carb and choke yourself with help from the board. Even a used carb would be super cheap. You are not allowed to complain about interior or paint colors, just like the kids in Cambodia aren't allowed to whine about what brand of r ice we give them for free!

So you guys think we should go with the 84 from Beloit?
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=332053
And you think it will be about another $300 on top of the $500 for the car to get it running. So we are looking at a total of $800 to get the car running?
I am down with whatever you guys are down with.

Look at it this way:
$500 for the car and about $300 to get her drivable.
Much closer to home. And its available now.
As opposed to mine:
$700...running now
A long, long way from home. The cost of gas getting here, and the cost getting back.
Plus its not available yet.

I hear ya.
With yours, the Cost would be about $1000 after gas. Both would need paint, the only thing that is up on yours is it is newer and it has a good interior. However, for about $200, I could straighten up the Interior pretty good.
But you are right about the waiting for yours.
If this works out with the 84 and it isn't in worse shape than he says, and I can get funds for his car (Beloit car), it looks like a good choice.

I wouldn't worry about what condition these cars are in. They both look like crap and need alot of work. The underbody my boy, the underbody. Take the one thats cleanest underneath!
Also, that formy 350 is now down to 375 bucks. Remember, people sell whole TPI setups for 400.

I'm pretty sure steve's car and the Beloit car are clean underneath.
Is yours steve?
Is yours steve?
Whats the scoop with that IROC in chicago? The red one? Is that car rust as hell underneath? Installing a wireing harness would be right up your ally. Well I'm off to math class, maybe give me a ring today so we can chat camaros or something.

Check out the thread. It needs new floor boards so I am assuming it isn't all that solid. Plus the majority of the inside is in pieces.

Helping a poor man to buy a rusty thirdgen would just be mocking him. Rust repairs are unbelieveably pricey...saying 'it just needs new floorboards' is the biggest understatement I've ever heard. The replacement floor boards cost $400.00 and there are many hours involved in dismantling the car, cutting out the old ones, trimming the new ones to fit and installing them...then they need to be finished with something. Also, if the floor pans are rusty, there's no way the rocker panels will be intact...there's another $340.00 and a chunk of labour. I'd be willing to be that if the floors are that gone, the quarter panels underneath the ground effects aren't pretty either...pathcing those up...yikes!...Then the car will need paint as well. You're better off to wait until you can find one that isn't rusty, even if it costs several grand. Shipping from down south is a worthwhile expense!
I speak from experience...I'm a student and I'm fixing a rusty Camaro...and dipping very DEEP into my line of credit to do so. The only advantage I can think of is that, by the time I'm finished replacing nearly every scrap of sheet metal on that car, it'll be entirely new...new car cost and everything...

RestoRoc, we aren't looking for a car for me to completely restore. Just something that will run and isn't too much of a rust bucket. In the spreadsheet I made, there are a few cars in there with minimal rust. The one closest to me in Beloit seems to have very little rust and is still cheap.
I do appreciate your insite I floor boards though, I really didn't know the cost of those.
But yeah, I don't want a rust bucket. However, you can find a car that isnt a rust bucket for cheap, that isn't a problem.
I mean paint isn't even an issue, if it is different colors for a few years, so be it. If down the road I actually do have cash, I will sell the car I may potentially be getting to some other poor kid like me.
I'm not going for a show car, just a car that drives good without pieces of rust falling off of it at random times. As long as it is intact and straight, and pieces don't fall off while driving, and I can't see through the floors, then I don't care. I'll just have fun in it. I am not picky, I can't afford to be picky.

No rust on mine.
now I have a whine....esmartweb just suspended my account for reasons unknown.
Now all my pics in every post are gone! Not to mention all my camaro pics etc I had in my account. Dammit!!
Now I have to snap pics all over again.
I think I may know why they did it. You cant link your pics from their site. The trick is you have to rename each file and rename the .jpg ext with .x
Hmmm, maybe they finally caught it.
Anybody know of a good free site where I can open another account where they let me linkage?

I'd pick your car over Beloit's car any day.
I think those are the two best choices, either yours or his.
I say we as in everybody but you (you can help if you want), get the funds together to buy you an engine (around 700), then you give me the RS

Or just have 87 IROC VERT do his magic and come up with the $700 for your Car then a little extra cas for gas money ($300).
We all in? I am, lol

I know, but I can dream too can't I?
You could rebuild the one you have now couldnt you?
Wouldn't a rebuild only cost like $1000 if that?
Or am I way off?
My cousin has a 350 block, pretty sure it is a 4 bolt main.
If I had cash, we were gonna build it. We were thinking we could get it running for around $1000.

Well If I read right. I just looked up a place here in Dallas (Blaines)
and it listed
Premium long block 350 4 bolt, 5.7-1 piece real seal--86-95--$650
Then of course, I have to do all the work.

So what does that $650 all include?
What would you still have to do, and how much would it cost to do what you have to do?

Well, we're close to buying a car.
I have raised $300 from selling some parts.
TJ still needs $300 more to get the car.
Anybody want to donate something to match?
I can't do this alone!
It's Christmas time, be generous!

Anybody? Even $20 toward the TJfive0 charity?
Didn't anyone see that Buick? Oh, man, have a heart!
How many of us have had a wife/girlfriend tell us we had to sell our pride and joy due to financial concerns? Poor guy!

I was just curious. Honestly, how much did you pay for that 87 Z28 you are selling?

I paid just about what I am selling it for. I had to rent the trailer to go get it, fuel, and storage for the last year, so really, I'm about even on it.

Well yeah, you did need fuel and a trailer to get it and storage for it, but that shouldn't be included in your price. Get what I am saying? Just my opinion.
Why is it that I am trying to help this kid out, who I have never met B4, and he is giving me flack for including trailer rental and storage in the price of my car? I am out the money for those things. It's not like I am trying to rip him off.....I told him about them and if anyone cares, I will actually lose money if I sell the car for $800 to him. It sure doesn't sound like someone is grateful that people got together to try to help him out. Sure, mine not be on the top of the list, but at least I tried to help you out there kiddo....did you even look at the pole? Not a lot of takers there....
Count me in - I want to help! 13.64%
Good idea, but not sure I can help... 45.45%

First off, this whole thing wasn't my idea. Second off, just like I told you, just bc you spend money on a car doesn't make it worth more. It isn't my fault or anybody else's fault you had to spend that money on a trailer, storage, and gas. Just because you spend that money doesn't justify a jump in the price for a car. You claim you were "giving me a deal" but from the looks of it, $800 was the lowest you could go to recoup your spending.
Plus if you read above what I wrote, it said "IN MY OPINION" which means it is my opinion and it really shouldn't matter to you. But I guess it does, I wonder why?
Everybody is just out there to try to gain a quick buck.
Me, I don't care if I have a 3rd gen right now, my time will come. However, 87 IROC VERT and all those guys were nice enough and generous enough to try to do something about it.
Even though I told him it wasn't necessary, he wanted to anyways.
87 IROC VERT is somebody that is truly willing to help people out.
Don't be all pissed and try to make people look the fool just because I asked you what you paid for it.
I have nothing to hide here, say what you want to say. I am not here to try to squeeze every ounce of money out of somthing.
Money doesn't mean anything, if you don't have it so what, you can't buy everything then. Just like now, I don't have money for a different car, so who cares. I personally don't.
FYI, this is all I am going to say on this. I don't intend to have a pissing war with you. This is all I am putting for in this dispute.
