I suppose I have to weigh in here...

911rsq, I think you're reading too much into TJ's comment, even though I agree that it doesn't really matter what you paid for the car. I probably would tell someone it doesn't matter what I paid, I am willing to sell it for $xxx amount. Anyway, since you mentioned the price and what you paid to transport, I suppose in some way you left the door open for TJ to comment on it. Still, I think TJ's reply could have been a bit softer... and thanks for offering the car at your cost, I think that was a nice gesture.

Which brings me to TJ's comment...

TJ - You seem to have unintentionally annoyed 911rsq - I can see why you might think that the trailer cost shouldn't be factored in, however, if 911 wants to get out of the car at break even then that would include what he spent on the car and getting it home.
If he wants more than you think it's worth, or have, then just let it be. No need to argue with someone, especially when we're asking for a charity discount! I think he means well, and you should just tell him 'thanks for the offer...'

Thanks for the props, TJ!

Now, guys, be nice!

I really didn't think I was being harsh with my words at first, but no biggie.

Oh well, crap happens.

I would say that car is worth 800 bucks. I guess I haven't seen it in person, but IF the underbody is clean, thats a good deal. You just can't find them rust free up here that often.

I know it may seem funny that if you were to spend an extra thousand bucks over what he's asking you could prolly find a really decent car, but thats just the way our low value cars work.

Honestly, I don't want to be in a pissing match either. I offered the car at $800, which is well below what it is worth. I could easily part it out for $3000. I saw that '87 IROC VERT was spearheading this and he said you were a good guy... I fell for it. I paid $750 for the car, I paid $75 for trailer rental, I paid $35 in gas to go get it.
Everybody is just out there to try to gain a quick buck.
Hmm....nope, I'm losing money.

Anyway. The price on the car stands at $800. I am sure I have pissed you off to the point that my car is not even really being considered any more, but oh well, I guess I will have to suffer not taking a loss on it to help you out. So much for Holiday Charities...

'87 IROC VERT, I tried to help out your cause, and I am fully aware of what a crunch money can be on people some times....been there. IT SUX. This dood doesn't want charity, he wants things given to him...I've read this thread...it's obvious. If you say he's a good dood, then I believe ya. I'll keep reading and see for myself someday then....

A nice running car for $700.

All it needs is paint and a radio.

But I can't afford anything right now. Just thought I would get your hopes up!!! lol

She doesn't care. It just all comes down to loans my man. If I were to buy a car, I would owe more in loans. The more I buy the more I owe. I already am going to be around owing 15,000. That isn't too bad, but I don't want it to get any worse. If I would have kept my IROC, I would owe around 18,000.

I would rather owe less, get it paid off quicker, then buy something nice, really nice!!!!!

But anyways, 87 iroc vert, if you can find me a t-56 tranny for that 300 bucks that you are giving to charity feel free to buy it. I'll even pay shipping.

911rsq, you & TJ gonna make up now? haha

Codename, what about Mike? Dude, I hope you don't have a rainbow plate on your thirdgen...

When I was poor, I used to go into debt for cars, as much as six figures for a Ferrari when I was 26. I worked very hard to keep the repo man away!

I would have kept a 5 speed IROC if I were you, good stress relief and some fun when the GF annoys you... well, you're screwed now!

Oh well, **** happens, can't always get what you want. For me, sometimes common sense takes over (unlike codename).

Oh well, I will have a sweeter 3rd gen than him someday!!!

I dunno, Codename, if I were any closer with my friends than I was with my 'vert, I'd be.... I don't even want to think about it!

Can't even leave you guys at home alone. I run down to Grandmas house for a few days and the bickering proceeds.

j/k guys....

I been working frantically on my car/S. Trying to get the 91Z gutted and setup to find a way to get it repaired and my 92's has slicks on the front and we have what may be a winter storm coming. Not good for me. Cant drive a Camaro in that junk. Not me anyways. I'm doing what I can.

I've seen TJ posting in classifieds for awhile now, sad to see the Cause not find anything I'm not even gonna try to get a Cause for myself haha.

TJ, I can't imagine how sad yall must be without the IROC. With-in a couple weeks of trading my 87 base Firebird (2.8 Auto) to a crappy used car dealer, I was wanting it back. It was traded for an 87 Pathfinder that ended up blowing up the trans after two months - and I never got to do a burn-out or off-roading with it

Three years now that I've had major Sellers Remorse

LOL, right!!!! If I could afford a plane ticket to Cali and back, I could have bought one of those beat up 3rd gens were talking about. I was just offered a nice little 283 V8 long block and bumper covers from a GTA. Only problem, they are in PA. We both mentioned how cool/funny it would be to put the parts in transit and pass them from 3rd gen member to 3rd gen member and see if it would make its way here. That would be pretty funny.

By the way, glad to see you are still alive!!! Haven't heard from you in a while, wasn't sure if the wife kidnapped you or something!!!

FYI, I am going to ask my boss if I can work 1 or 2 extra weeks in Jan. (I am supposed to be done from Jan. 7th to May for school) If he lets me, that might mean I can spend $500 or so on a 3rd gen with that money and a little help from ANYBODY!!! I might be able to get me one!!!!!!!!! Yippie!!!!!

hey if theres any way possible you could make it up to buffalo, i have a 91 black firebird i would give to you for free. high miles, 305 tpi, auto, hard top, mising seats and much of interior plastic (went into my camaro ) but car runs and drives alright, just replaced the water pump on it. was going to use it as a field car in the spring. but if youd like to put it to good use let me know. or in spring its going to die a nasty death

WOW!!! That would be awesome.

That could work. A few questions though. When you say it drives alright, what do you mean? Is the engine or tranny on the fritzs or what? I guess, how much would it cost to get her driveable and running good? What do you mean as a filed car?

I guess what I am saying is that if all it really needs to get it running is interior, then that might work well. I think I could talk my cousin into driving to NY with me. It would be about a 12 hour drive from his house, so not too bad. I am assuming it would have to be trailered back bc it has no interior, but he said he has a trailer.

TJ, I read his post as saying it runs and drives alright - so, bring some seats, and go pick it up! Even if you have to go a local boneyard and get two ripped up old third gen seats for $20 until you get source better ones on the board...

Dude, jump on it!

That is why I was asking about the "driveability". I mean if it could make a drive back to WI, if I just brought some seats, then hell yeah!!!

I'd be all over it!!!!

well i drove it for probably 30 miles with a bad water pump (gunning it and shutting it down from light to light) but i think when i got towards the shop i heard it start to knock a bit. trans dosent slip. body is kinda rough. it looks like someone attempted a lil body work with with little to no experience at all... just embarising. if the weather will break ill get some pictures. i never drove it far with the new water pump. if you could i would highly recomend trailering it. as far as interior. theres a corbeau racing seat in the drivers side. not really all to safe, i wouldnt count on using unless your despret. but front carpet is tehre, rear seats. i stole random pieces of plastic out of it and the front seats because they were in really nice shape. dash is intact, center console looks to be out of a 4th gen possibly, glove box is shot. as far as how much $$ youd need to get it running really good, is up to you. im sure with a little lovin you could fix the body, and worry about paint down the road, as for engine and trans, like i said before i thought i heard the engine start to knock (very loud) but i would go throught it anyways because its a slug. and by field car i ment drive it around in my friends back yard, we made a track a few years ago with some jumps n stuff, and thats where it would be layed to rest.

Nice!!

Sounds interesting.

Since we would have to trailer it, I will have to talk to my cousin and see what he says and see when he can do it or if he can.

Just curious, what kind of auto tranny is it? It has overdrive right?

Also, if it does clear up there, pics would be great!!!! I am thinking I/we might take you up on this offer!!

hey is the buick for sale ?
and what about this rusty burb ?

that buick looks pretty good,

alot cleaner than my daily driver by FAR i have missing metal from the cab of my 88 toyota pickup 2wd and i had to remove the bed and make a plywood flatbed because the bed was gonna fall off due to rot, had to put a new timing chaing on it last month because it jumped due to wear and the right rear brake is blown out

didnt know someone was looking for a solid third gen for cheap
i was trying to unload my 82 z28 for 100 bucks minus engine but no one has been interested and ive started parting it(still complete though) good complete interior and all, not dented not rusted out, good floors and all,
factory 305 car
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...9104&members=1

the LCA's and heater box are sold now though, not removed yet, i got sick of trying to sell it whole and no one having any interest in it so i started listing parts

these cars are worthless though when its time to get rid of them,
its pretty sad, no one is ever really seems to be serious when its time to sell one

PM me on the buick and burb
is the burb 2wd or 4x4 and what drivetrain and all that, year ?
1/2 ton ? 3/4 ton ?

Tony, the firebird should have an overdrive tranny. I believe they still used the 700r4 in 91, but don't quote me on that one (Might be the 460LE or something like that). Also, if it's an original TPI car your either looking at a Formula or a Trans Am, not that it even matters because it's a stripped 3rd gen from the way it sounds . It'd be nice to drive it back if possible, I'd still go with you, as we could make it back faster and plus you'll need that camera man. Oh man what fun it'd be.

I hope he can get pictures, that would be sweet.

And as far as taking a trip there Greg, as you can see, it looks like it would have to be trailered home. I calculated it out, it is about 12 hours and 800 Miles from your house. Give or take a bit obviously. Assuming we can make 12 MPG with the truck and trailer (not sure if we can) gas would cost us $333 round trip. That is about what '87 IROC VERT saved up. So if we decided to do this, he can pitch in his donation and we can video tape the trip and make a hell of a time out of it.

Fast68, you have a PM by the way. I forgot to mention in that though about the year for the Suburban. I am almost positive it is an 84. It's a GMC too.

By the way, bitchin85camaro, is it just a Firebird or Formula or what? Or is the TPI not stock? I really don't care, just curious

umm... title says firebird, but it does have ground effects tranny does have over drive. and sorry for getting your hopes up, its a TBI, i dono what i was thinking, but for some reason i thought it was tpi. like i said before, body is rough, laughable body work. i mean hideous the pictures will be embarissing. i think your gonna need a drivers front fender. i havent seen the car in a few months my memory of it isnt so sharp. ill deffinetly try for pictures. then you can decide if its a basket case or not. in my opinion, it is. but, to you considering what youl have to invest into it, it may have potential in your eyes. sorry for the let down on the TPI, i dono what the heck i was thinking??? like i said before, ill have to go look at it again, its been a long time. but the more i think about the more im starting to think im going to be setting you up for the fall, but ill let ya know when i look at it again. other things i remember taking from that car are the hatch motor, hatch struts, and i almost started at the doorpanels but decided to re-do mine instead. power locks, power windows. and i duno how much you might be interested in a 2nd gen bird, but i know where you could pick up a 74 for around 1000. i can get you more details on that if you are interested. any other questions?

No problem about the mix up. Don't worry about setting me up for a fall, no biggie. Pics would be good, so I can see what we would be working with. And more info on that 74 Bird would be nice too.

the 74, has the original 400, with cam and milled heads. new B&M tranny with less than 500 miles (thats basically what your paying for) 3500 stall, shift kit and line locks, trans brake(--those things ruuule). purple and black paint with ss cragers. car performs pretty good. interior is beat but its old and was neglected. the paint and body, is presentable but purple, yah i dono about that hahah.

Interesting. It was 4 wheel drive right? That would be pretty sweet. Then again, any running third gen would be really sweet for me!!
