New from MI
Didn't know where else to post this so I figured here would be good. I don't have a third gen, but my friend has been looking for a cheap one that I might be able to hook him up with (I might be in the market for a beater third gen Bird too, you'll read why).
I have a '79 Firebird Esprit that I have done a lot of work with (with the help of a friend) and lately I have come to a dead stop. To say a brief story, I had $1500 saved up, I was 17 and new nothing about cars. I wanted a second gen. Ended up finding one that was wrecked and decided to rebuild it from the frame up. So I did.
Just got finished (I'm 19 now, took a little over a year to do), and now we have had people look at the car. Some say the body is likely twisted. The accident was so bad that the old frame had twisted real bad and the passenger LCA had ripped right off. Plus someone used it as a towing device and also rigged it up real bad. Looks like someone ran the car into the ground and decided to rip the next guy off.
So now I am on the hunt for a new roller or shell that is straight and solid. Can't find any deals like I used to, but I was thinking of selling my car minus drivetrain, and throwing it in a third gen for now until I get a deal on a second gen. What do you think? Good or just wait?

Re: New from MI
I almost got a nice condition third gen with a 305 TPI that just needed a tune up for $300 and it had 62k original miles. The guy sold it from under me though. So now I have a few third gen body parts for that car that I wanted to replace, but now I need to find someone who wants to buy this stuff. He has a few other f-bodies he would probably sell me, I always seem to find out where the deals are. Plus the parts for them are dirt cheap. Just go to Parts Galore on 8 mile.
