I live near LaSalle / Peru, grew up in a small town called Henry about 45 minutes from Peoria. I've been looking for and IROC or Z28 with TPI and a 5 speed almost 6 months now, looked at many with autoslide trannies and Then this 87 IROC with TPI and 5 manual gears came up on Craigslist !! Unless something unforeseen happens, I am going to pick it up next Friday and drive it home !! Haven't been a member that long but I have been a Camaro fan almost my entire life and I had a 69 327 2 bbl 4 speed, and a 79 350 Berlinetta. Life is just more FUN with a MANUAL Transmission !!

Giving a shout out from Bourbonnais IL. I have an 84 Z28 HO that i bought as a project. I drove it while i was working on it. It recently had and electrical problem. I think it is the Ignition switch but not sure. The fan relay switch went out while my brother-in-law was driving it so he hooked the fans up to the blower motor for the heater, said he drove about 10 miles and heard a pop and all the electronics shut down. Now if you put the key in it, no lights, no nothing. Be nice to get it running again before i sell it. Cuz im going to buy the same car with no rust and no issues for 1800 in about 2 weeks. So the one i have i need to get running and sell or just part it out. Anyone with any info or could help diagnose the problem feel free to drop me an email or pm. fanofcubs09@comcast.net Im not an electrical man at all. I rebuild motors and trannys. Body work and electrical work my buddy usually does but he moved away

 

Good old Lena here, bout 50 miles west of Rockford. Nice to see that there are many third gens around the rockford area, i didnt think there were many enthousiests in the the NW part of the state. Got an 89 RS with the LO3 and a manual. Bought in '03 and used as a summer car till '07. Back on the road and running like a champ. Thinkin I need more power in the future. Always need more. haha

man im right by all you guys often.. i live in lincoln, just above springfiield, but go to bloomington decatur and other places all the time for parts etc, and just a couple weeks ago i was on california ave in west chicago right at the cook county jail and also right past joliet and so on.,. im up that way now and then.. west chicago parts anyways..

IT'S OFFICIAL !! I am the Proud Owner of a 1987 IROC Z28 !!! The title is in the process of being transferred into my name and it has plates and I took it out for its first legal joy ride today, rain and all. Been waiting for 2 weeks to legally drive it, so rain or not, I took her out !! Hopefully it washed some of the country dust off the undercarriage to make it easier for me to undercoat it again. Now that everything is legal, I am seriously planning on going to 3rd GEN FEST in Crete next month !!!

 

Im from Pekin/Peoria IL area but stationed in Great Lakes Naval base. Im only 3 hrs away from where my 89 RS Camaro is at. It was my first car and have had for 3 years now. Im now in the process of fixing it up as my show and go car with a 327 with mechanical fuel injection. Once its up and running im going to the shows with it.

South Pekin, about 12 mikes south east of Peoria-both towns have airports.
Still slaving away on my 87 Formula, averaging about three minutes a day, near as I can figure. Now replacing rusted out areas, very slow going. I bought this car new from Scherer Buick-Pontiac in October of 1986 and it now has 223,000 very hard miles. Hope I can get it done one of these days.

So new, it doesn't have plates yet, and then a pic of it in my garage waiting to be fixed. The first major piece of rust is where I got tailgated by this dumb broad and much later found that the welds and sealer at the very back of the car had all been cracked and were now rusted through.

Well I found an Autometer Phantom 2 5/8" FP gauge in storage that I didn't know I had. I installed that Sunday to find out my FP is reading far higher than the Summit Liquid gauge says. Autometer shows 8 PSI. So I reduced it to 6.5 PSI and reset my floats. I'm in the process of adjusting the idle screws again, but I keep on blowing Fuel Pump fuses because I only have spare 20a and 25a laying around. Hopefully run to Walmart tonight in Muscatine, IA and get some then then get that tuned. I rather not even attend the track yet I only have 250 miles on the new motor. I'll just get the itch again. After it's broken in I need to take it up to IL. Dyno Center north of the Quad Cities to have them tune it. Hopefully they can handle putting the new 3.70 gear in the 9 bolt too.

 

yup thats me lol. it get the garage most of the summer now and i put it away in storage at the farm for the winter. wat are you running for a fuel pump that you keep blowing fuses???

 

Just OEM fuel injected one. I've tracked it down to factory wiring. It's not my fuel pump hack or gauges that are popping it... they all run fine but once I hook back up factory wiring to the fuse block pop. Now time to research on what Turn B/U actually is. That's where I was hijacking power from for the autometers and to trip the relay for the fuel pump.

Looks like it's backup and turn signals. Problem with wiring has been identified. Looks like it's the backup wiring switches on the shifter they were a little kinked. I'll get some wiring wrap tomorrow and get that fixed. I did find a relay that has some scorch marks on 2 prongs which kinda makes me wonder if it has failed. I'm going to get that replaced also.

i live in Peoria. any one from the area want to get together for a cruise night or to just hang out let me know. im up for anything. just 2nd third gen car. first was a 92 rs camaro now i have a 92 bird. both t top cars. love t tops!! hit me up with any ideas. id be game for meeting up and just cruising around the area for a couple hours or a day cruise. anything would be awesome. im seeing a third gen convoy in central il in the near future!! lol

 

streator cruise night is coming up i do belife, we all need to put thirdgen.org on our car somehow to make them recognisable, ill lead the pack =P cause i live in streator.

our turn out for cruise night is normally MASSIVE.

 

I'm in Peoria every other weekend, although my RS is still at the body shop (full restro with 454), currently working a deal to pick up a 91 305 5 speed TA as a DD. Stay in touch, either way I'd meet up with a fellow thirdgener for a beer or a cruise.

 

im pretty sure im free this saturday anytime so if some of us wants to meet and go for a cruise im totally game for it. if not ill prolly ust be cruising around the area by myself. the girlfriends sis is coming in town with her dog and they are "going shopping". so therefore ill be cruising around to get away from being stuck as the dog sitter..lol. hit me up im on and off here all the time.

Been considering a mild cam upgrade, since i was going to pull the motor to do valve guides and a rear bearing. Any suggestions ? I'm not looking to roast em in second, just to feel a little more pull.
