18 inch iroc's.. Tire size? Issues?

I recently found a pretty good deal on a set of chrome 18X8 Iroc wheels. I'm thinking of buying them and putting them on my 91 RS. I'm trying to price out tires and I need to know what sizes will work. Will the fronts or rears rub with a 245? Also if anyone has these on their car, please feel free to post some pictures up here.

You should be able to get away with a 255/40-18 tire just fine. I run an 18" American Racing Daytona Wheel on my 91 z28. This tire size will allow you to keep you correct overall diameter and yet give you just a bit wider tire than stock.

Thanks! I have been planning on some wheels for a while now. With our cars, only certain wheels look good I think. The Iroc's are the ones that I have always loved.

18's will fit fine, I think 17's look the best. I will give ya a good deal on my 16's now ;-) They are off the car!

Thanks Darren! I have been looking for the 17's and cant find them.. I found a dude that has some pretty close to new 18's for around what you were talking for the 16's. I also would prefer the 17's if I could find them. Message me and maybe we can work something out. I have the cash to get you that new clutch you need..

I would sell mine to ya less then $500 if your interested let me know mine aren't perfect tho... But have tires on them! lol

Re: 18 inch iroc's.. Tire size? Issues?

I have cash in hand. Send me some pics. Do you still have my number? I thought you were talking 650 or so for yours. This guy is a friend of the family and has them on an El Camino. He doesn't really want to sell, but he owes my Dad some favors. The 18's are $750 new on ebay. I was planning on buying the 17's from the same ebay store. No luck on finding them anymore though.

Re: 18 inch iroc's.. Tire size? Issues?

I'll take $500 maybe a little less if they are not up to the quality you want or pictured. I will take better pics of some of the "rougher" spots this weekend for you and get them over to ya. The rear tires are still really nice but the fronts will need to be replaced at some point soon. They are drivable as I was driving on them while the car was out.

Oh and the clutch was already ordered, :-) I am now gathering funds for other side projects, lol.

Re: 18 inch iroc's.. Tire size? Issues?

honestly I like my 18's a lot better than 17's. more coverage, perfect fit, and once put a little drop on it they will tuck just enough to look bada$$. go with 18's

Definitely still thinking 17's or 18's. My money tree is kind of bare though. Eventually.. I took out my headliner to have it recovered, it folded in half as soon as I took out the last screw. Garbage! I need a nice black T-top headliner if anyone finds one.

I've gotten busy and it gets dark so fast I will get them this weekend for sure. But I think you really should see them in person. You ever around this area or got a free minute to meet up?

Yeah, I been crazy busy too. Where at in Warren are you? My truck is in Fowlerville until I can get my car into storage. Maybe this weekend or next I could drive out to you to check them out. Do what you can with the pictures. I understand that I wont be able to see every little flaw, but as long as I can get a general idea of where the flaking is and some of the pitting. Not really looking for show quality anyway. Nice driver quality is fine with me. Thanks man!

Deez,
You will be better off buying a newer replacement molded plastic t-top headliner from Classic industries. You can get it covered for minimal expense and will last you the life of your car. CI has them for $160 uncovered. At most should cost about another $50 to cover.

Thanks man! I have been looking around to see who has the best deal. My car has sat in the sun quite a bit. The visors and sail panels are kind of faded. I'm worried about my visors and sail panels matching the newly covered headliner. I guess we will see how much of a difference there really is and if I can live with it or not.

honestly, if you will talk to your upholsterer.....he or she can recover your sail panels and visors along with the headliner. Headliner material is breathable enough to allow speaker air pressure and sound to perform correctly.

Good stuff!!

Love to see you making progress on the car. Wheels are a tough sell on these cars. The iroc wheel is timeless and right for these cars. The only reason I don't have them on my car is that my buddy Steve is running a set.

Thanks man! Progress for me will be slow but steady. My parents are in the process of losing their house and that is where I was doing all of the work. I'll be storing the car in a barn with no electricity, so there wont much getting done there either. I had a lot of things planned for the winter, but as of now if I can get some wheels, the headliner, my dash pad(being fixed now), maybe my seats and some other odds and ends going I will be happy. Also planning on having the hood and nose reshot in early spring if the funds allow. I will be looking for a nice factory Iroc hood in the near future. If you guys know anyone that has one let me know. I either want the Z28 hood or I want to do the Heritage stripes. Still undecided.
As far as the Irocs go, I dont think that you can buy a nicer looking wheel without spending a couple grand. I wish I could find a set of the machined finish ones in 17 or 18. To my knowledge they dont make them anymore though.

I agree. Almost want to buy a chrome set and soda blast them then have them powder coated.

Last night I bought the Iroc's that Darren had. Check that off of the list. Darren also has a line on the hood and some other stuff that I'm looking for. If your ever looking for parts or odds and ends message him. If he doesn't have it chances are he knows someone that does.

Score!! I will for sure. All I really need is a nice console lid and I'd entertain the idea of a hawks 5 inch rear spoiler.

I have a lead on a notchback hatch. Not sure what they're worth, but it'd be neat to try on if I can get it for the right price.

Yeah I like that taller spoiler too. Not so sure about the notch back. I guess I haven't really seen one on a nice car yet though. I saw one on a Formula a while back that looked ok. Not really my style though. A console lid shouldn't be very hard to find. More than likely it wont be cheap though. Unless you can find a nice one at a junk yard.

Cant wait to see those 16's on your car Brian! I am sure they will look better on your darker color car then my white one. Take good care of those babies and clean them up. I really wanted to keep them but now my project has gotten out of hand, lol.

Lol, yeah that tends to happen. To do one thing you always have to do a bunch of other stuff first. I cleaned them up a little the other night. Hoping to put them on the car just to take a few pictures this weekend. Depends on what the weather is like.

I had a set of the 18" Irocs with 245/40/18s and they never rubbed once.

Thanks Dave. I'm going with some 16's for now. Definitely going with some 17's or 18's in the near future. I gotta pretty good deal on the ones that I bought. It will just be nice to have a different look for a while. I love my Z28 wheels, but they need refinishing. So I figured I could roll the Irocs for a while until I get mine redone or buy something bigger.
