i had my quarter fixed (dented in from accident) which took a place 2 days to do. They also put on a new bumper, which totaled 1500 bux which to me was a rip off for the crappy work they did. A new quarter installed and painted and a couple of dents fixed would probaly run you close to a grand on the side. A definite way to cut cost is to find one in a graveyard rather then buying a new one. or you could even buy a compresser, paint gun, bondo, sander, and a dent puller and do it yourself to really cut cost...(what I will do in future, b/c frankly noone will ever treat your car like you do)
not to make this post anti-bodyshop but i have had a life changing experience with one...

If the damage you have is serious enough that you need to replace the quarter, don't try and fix it yourself. It is not as easy as you think. Cutting and welding are jobs for someone with experience and knowledge. As for the dents, if they are not serious they can be smoothed out with a little hammer and dolly work. Keep the bondo to a minimum. Another way to look at it, is to buy all the equipment that you need versus a one time repair, you will always lose money buying the equipment and doing the work yourself. Unless you plan on painting multiple cars and doing a ton of body work, which again takes experience and patientence, I would go to a shop.
