Car burnt to the ground

If anyone was in the Newington, CT area wednesday night, and saw a whole lot of black smoke near the high school, this will explain it...

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/811664/1

My car is totaled, and i didn't have fire protection on my insurance.

well. he could start from scratch.. get that frame blasted and start with a frame and go from there.. if it is still straight anyhow... I have narrowly averted a similar fate when my carb float stuck open and i ended up with a fire on the back side of the carb and engine. thank *** all the wires were safe...

Sorry to see another person's car go up like that though.. Looks like you put alot of time into it.

extinguishers are a very important and can be very handy in some occassions and can save thousands of dollars of work and money and parts. And just think.. they only cost a whole 50 to 150$ Good investment if you ask me.

looks like frame is toast. just by the way the car is sitting, and i don't mean anything about the suspension. that car got really freggin hot, and the frame sunk around the driver's area somewhere. if yo look closely at the door area you can see it.
sorry dude, that sucks.
gl with whatever you decide to do

I was gonna buy the Newington Police D.A.R.E showcar, a 1983 Trans-am, but the mechanic who built it for them pieced it from like 4 diff. cars and cant remember anything about it. He also wants more money every time i go to see it. My dad's friends with the owner of Blonders junkyard/auto salvage, and she's got 2 'birds and 2 camaros for me to go check out, only i'm pretty sure they're all 4th gen. I gotta pay for college so i have little car money. One good thing is that after pulling the motor i found out it's really a 350 w/ harland sharp roller rockers, vortec heads w/ ALL the goodies, 4 bolt main, and all it needs is a new carb and a cylinder honing.

I was running open Headers, there musta been flames there, or oil leaking on the headers. It got to the gas line fast, because the whole car was gone 100% before the firetruck came. The electric fuel pump hosed the fire down w/ 92 octane till the battery melted. Everything just burned, nothing really exploded.

you must have melted the fuel line that is in the trans tunnel area on the driver's side. with those open headers i would not be surprised. Leaking oil on the header would not cause a fire i think.. I have had my front seal on the oil pan slip out on me (dun know the reason) and it sprayed oil all over the passenger side of the engine compartment coating the exaust manifold and part of the y-pipe with bunches of oil... enough where i thought it was actually on fire when i parked lol. opened the hood and was just oil on the exaust manifold lol

I don't care how straight the frame might be you still can't use it. I wouldn't trust a frame that's been through that kind of heat. It'll change the properties of the metal. It'll make it very brittle in some case. Say he gets into accident with that frame he could be in DEEP ****.

Sorry for your loss man, that really sucks

That sucks. Did you have anykind of f/p shutoff (GM uses the OPS). I ask because I have seen that happen with aftermarket pumps.

no the point i was trying to get at is he could take it and remove the front frame from the car and build a chrome moly tube front frame for it.. reinforce it with a niec roll cage and there you go.. a little more work, but in the end it will be stronger than what he had before, not to mention he would have alot more room for him to work on the engine lol.

nope, i didn't have any comprehensive insurance. The insurance company can't do anything. I'm still searching for a 3rd gen w/ t-tops in ct. Preferably cheap, even w/ no motor or trans. Thanks.

depends how complete the car is. I'm paying for college, so prolly like 1,000 max. Thats where the no motor or trans comes in. I found a sick 98 firebird in my neighborhood, but they want 3,500. My dad might chip in because he's the one who set up the insurance and said there was fire coverage when he forgot it.

IROC Vert

On Rt 7 in wilton there is a 89 Iroc, Looks like a 5 speed, he said it is a 350 but we have all heard that before. I dont know what he is looking for, but a little body work and some paint and it could be a gem.
I will try to get the number when I go down 7 monday if you are interested...

I finally got a new car. 1987camarosport sold me his 1990 firebird for 300, and i'll be working on restoring that. I'll make it's own webpage and put a link on the one that's in my origonal message. It has potential. I'm gonna send out the 350 that was in my formula when it burnt to the shop. I'm gonna bore it out .30, New kb pistons, and get a more aggressive cam. That's just the beginning. I'm not sure how far i'm gonna take this project.
