WARNING Massachusetts!!!!!!!

Massachusetts Bill to Ban the Sale/Installation of Aftermarket Exhaust Systems
to be Considered by Joint Transportation Committee on Oct. 2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A bill (H.B. 3574) to ban the sale or installation of “an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust” was reintroduced by Rep. Liz Malia and several cosponsors (list below) and will be considered by the Massachusetts Joint Transportation Committee on October 2nd. The bill excludes limited-use “antique motor cars” from its scope - a clear attempt by the bill’s sponsors to divide the automobile hobby in an effort to gain clearer sailing for this restrictive and damaging piece of legislation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We Urge You to Contact the Members of the Joint Transportation Committee
(List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 3574
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
· H.B. 3574 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make
- .................vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.
· H.B. 3574 does not supply law enforcement with a clear standard to enforce,
- .................allowing them to make subjective judgments on whether or not a modified exhaust system is in violation.
· H.B. 3574 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased
- .................performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge, pass, travel uphill, etc.
· H.B. 3574 would make it difficult for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems
- .................with more durable, better performing options.
· H.B. 3574 would only exclude “antique motor cars” defined as those vehicles over
- .................25-years old which are used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades, etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DON’T DELAY!
Please contact members of the Massachusetts Joint Transportation Committee
immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to H.B. 3574.
Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.
Thank you for your assistance!!!

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

What happens if you already have one? Do you have to take it off and put a stock one back on? Isn't a catback a direct replacement in most cases?

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

Problem is it can't be ANY louder!

Ok I e-mailed all 18 of them. I don't think it will be worth anything to e-mail the people trying to pass this. They will probably just get annoyed.

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

Basically, if it isn't "stock" or some trooper/local cop thinks its too loud, you're getting a ticket. It may also make it even harder to pass inspection. Its a Stupid Bill, typical political nonsense. There's so much else wrong with this state, but they've got to make it look like they are doing something. I think this is the third or fourth time in the past ten years that someone's tried to do this. I think that because the winter's coming, they musta thought no one was paying attention as most folks are putting they're cars away for the winter. If anything, we're not anywhere near as loud as most Harley's...and we don't leak as much oil...LOL!

Thanks Dennis!

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

All my e-mails came back to me, with their auto responses. I might have to call them. But who knows. Cops have not given me a hard time now, I kinda don't think they will. But you better bet the second my car can be registered as an antique, it will be.

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

I think antique is 20 years or maybe 25. I'm almost there if its 25 and past it if it's 20 so I'm happy. I got a SLP LM1 to put on my car with some lt's soon so it'll be plenty loud. I got no responses back yet...

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

Liz Malia is a liberal rep from the boston area. She's introduced this bill every year for the last decade or more. Fortunately, it gets shut down every single year, but she must have a real bug up her *** because she re-introduces it every time!

Want to make this problem go away for good? Find a way to get her the hell out of office.

Re: ATTENTION Massachusetts!!!!!!!

Best of luck with this guys! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Maine has a set dB limit that you're supposed to be within, but virtually none of the inspection stations have a meter and the cops sure don't either. It's a real grey area in a lot of state's laws, and I'm afraid it won't be getting any better in the years to come. We've definitely got to stick together on it though!! Having a "loud" exhaust does not make a vehicle ANY less safe, that's for sure!!
