3rd Gen TPI vs 5.0 Fox Body Shootout
How can we go about organizing a 3rd gen TPI vs 5.0 Fox Body Mustang shoot out at one of the NJ tracks?
Just a wild idea but could be fun...
Interested:
Insomniac 1991 Firebird / L98 / High 13's - Low 14's
TPI-Formula350- 1989 Firebird / 383 EFI Stroker / High 11's
RyanJB 1992 Firebird / 355 HCI

I remember when my Formula was stock.....I lost to every 5.0 I came across. Definitely would be fun!

Are they lighter? Wonder what makes the difference considering the L98 is bigger then the 5.0
as far as mods go definetly alot cheaper and easier getting one of them to go fast, but our cars handle and look much better...

Don't know for sure....I just know that they usually have work done to them. For some reason those cars became know as classic street/strip cars......ours don't have that reputation.
Majority of "local" 3rd gen F-Body owners seem to be happy with just keeping the car running. Racing it at the drag strip isn't even an option.

I would call up Raceway Park in Englishtown/ Manalapan. They will definitely set something up.

My bone stock Auto 1990 Mustang GT weighed in at 3310... That is with the GFX and an automatic transmission with full interior, spare tire, AC and everything. I could see a stripper LX 5 speed being pretty light weight.

Re: 3rd Gen TPI vs 5.0 Fox Body Shootout
The later years 5.0 TPI 5 Speeds G92 / N10 cars could beat the 87 and up style Mustangs... Mustangs were 225 HP then, thirdgens were 230, but 70 or more lbs of torque than the Mustang...
But I did have plenty of fun in an 87 Mustang GT in high school

well here is something id like some input on.
is it third gen vs fox body or third gen tpi vs 5.0 foxbody? including aftermarket intakes, turbos, and superchargers.
if it was based on body style alone, third gen turnout could be slim and would just be a bunch of sub 10 second fox bodys.
id think it would be more even and unique if it was that the motor had to start life as an LB9 or L98 and race those cars vs fox bodys that started as a 5.0. thus bored out motors etc are fine.

Re: 3rd Gen TPI vs 5.0 Fox Body Shootout
My thinking is on the thirdgen side take anyone that shows up- LB9, L98, TTA, strokers, turbo, nitros and super charged cars.
Guess you'd have to do the same for the Fox body guys to be fair. I'm sure you will have a lot more Mustangs heavy hitters show. If you limit the mods on the mustangs but not the thirdgens its not really fair.
Guess you could also just go EFI cars on both sides?? Just an idea.
could also break into classes??
