I think Jeff moved to the Bend area, which is in Central Oregon. The coast is beautiful but it rains a lot. Also, the last I knew, the coast wasn't exactly known for having a booming economy. I'm trying to get back up to Oregon (that's where I'm from) but I'm looking for jobs in cities along I-5... Medford, Roseburg, Eugene, Salem, Portland, etc...

Good Luck!!

My wife and I moved to Bend from Santa Maria last Dec. Best thing we ever did. The ONLY thing we miss in Cal. is our friends. Thats it. Bend is on the eastern(dry) side of the Cascades. Skiing twenty minutes away, hiking, hunting, fishing, total car town, with a 1/8 mile NHRA strip one hour away. Home prices still reasonable compared to Cal., jobs available if you want to work. I dont know much about the western side of the Cascades, we were not interested in moving there, to wet.

I live in Milwaukie, Oregon and currently reside in Corvallis while attending OSU. I can tell you this, if you are ok with sunny weather for roughly 3 months then nothing but rain, come on up. That is for the west side of the Cascades mind you. The I5 corridor/wilamette vally is the best place for work (most industry and technical jobs) however Oregon has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. However, the state is one of the most diverse and beautiful. Skiing all year around, deep lush forests, gorgeous coast line (if you're not looking to sunbathe all that much) and fresh air. Portland is a great city as well and Woodburn drag strip is right off I5 south of Ptown. Im not too familiar with southern Oregon although I have family down there and Medford is dryer and growing fast. Should be many opportunities down there. Thats a west side perspective for ya.

Don't forget the great fishing.

Heres a stat for you. Bend(where I live), right on the eastern side of the Cascades, gets the same amount of precip a year as Santa Maria CA . About 12 inches.
