Top speed for stock 88 iroc,5.7,700R4

Does anybody know if Chevrolet recorded a top speed for our Camaros from the factory? Obviously there would be a wide range based on your powertrain package. I have an 88 IROC with stock 5.7,700R4. Not positive on gear ratio, but was told they were stock also upon purchase. Accordording to my stock speedo gauge, I hit 142 before letting off the throttle. I was amazed that I was able to get so close to the top of the speedo w/ stock GM power, though I know I was close to the top speed. I know the motor was supposed to be rated @220-230h.p. from the factory. I'm not sure what my current B.H.P. is now with 145K. My current mods are exhaust, K&N intake, Harwood Fib. hood, Griffin Alum. rad.,& ported TPI by (RUKWIK) Jason. While I realize I'm not completely stock, I also realize these mods aren't making any major differences in my bhp. Has anyone else gone faster? I was told that the stock TPI intake makes good torque, but limits your top speed. Are the aerodynamics of the car good for anything close to 200mph? I'd love to hit 200 someday. I'm sure I'd have to tape the front of the hood down to prevent lift off. Any comments on this matter are welcome.

these body's are good for 300mph unmodified, very good aerodynamics, thats my goal for 205mph

the record for the thirdgen is 330mph by banks was a ta with a twin tubo took like 3000hp and had to be started by being pushed with a truck.

fastest recorded for a stock g92 from the factory was 149mph.

road & track tested the 87 Iroc w/350TPI(225HP) back in 86 and clocked it at 149. they tested the performance against the 87 mustang GT. the GT blew its motor at 148

If you're interested, it's a good read.

Also, the only reason they blew out the GT was due to the fact that someone thought it would be a really brilliant idea to push 150 in fourth gear with a tall Ford rear end. Not the best more they ever made.

the ford guy said "it'll go faster in 4th" I guess he forgot to tell them it would also blow up at 5900rpm . I wish they would have said what speed it hit in 4th

I've been curious about top speed too. I've got an 89 GTA (L98/auto) that I would like to run at World Of Speed at the Bonneville Salt Flats...try to make the 130 mph class. It is apparently pretty difficult to hit because of traction issues on the salt, etc.

Removed the cat and hit 145 mph. I know its no miricle, but for having 130k miles on original 5.7 motor/700R4, not bad.

I was a lucky owner second or third hand, of one of the few 1988 1LE cars. It had the 5.7 engine I've read all over the Internet how the 1989 cars were bumped to 245 horsepower however my car was supposedly rated at that same 245 horsepower.

I recall reading in a certain car magazine a top speed run of 163 mph. I fully believe that as I hit over 150 mph on more than one occasion with my car, and it was still accelerating. To my knowledge my car had not been modified in any way shape or form.
