Thinking of starting over
I have been contemplating starting over on my t/a project, one that has a 350 to begin with.I am going to try to sell the t/a minus the rims and lca's and am going to look at this one.It has nice paint, rebuilt motor.I'm just trying to decide on an asking price for mine, any ideas?Needs a hood and bumper but that's not a big deal.

why not just drop in a 350 wouldn't take that much, 350's are a dime a dozen. plus you have a clean car just needs paint.
I say you build a 305. trick flow has some new aluminum 175cc heads. they flow 242 cfm at .500.

The paint and the 305 are getting to me.It would take more money to redo this one than to start over with a different one with a 350 already. The swap will cost more $ in the end.
Steve is starting to think like me, but I am only doing things similar to you because I don't have much money to be doing motor drop ins and manual conversions. I think you have a nice car steve, what happened to just building the 350?

Del you'de be crazy to sell yours.Would you have spent thousands doing motor swaps and tranny swaps in your old v6?I think if I could lay some paint down I would be happy but this paint just won't clean up and it's hard to keep it some what clean when the paint comes off as you wash it(blue water running everywhere).

I had like 10K invested in the v6 over 5+ years and it was still gutless, all show, no go.
The engine and tranny had both been rebuilt to stock specs and ran great so there wasn't a need to swap.
Had I kept it say 5+ more years and wore out the combo, then I would've swapped.
I've since learned 2 3rd gens is too much.
Much happier with the Supra as the DD.
(I'd still buy the v6 back tho for sentimental purposes)

damn steve i know what u been going through. i've been through it myself. What made me keep the car for almost 5 yrs is that engine is very reliable. Never had one mechanical problem with the car. ya the paint is all messed up but u could get a cheapy maaco paint job that would please u for a good 6 months. THe fact is that the car u have is very reliable, you know the history of the car and whats it been through, and how well the car drive. WIth this other car you don't know the history of it. It might have a bad rear end, bad tranny, or even a bad engine, even thought it's a rebuil. Who knows, the interior could be shot to hell. It shows pictures but pictures could be decieving. I mean the decision is yours and I stand by ur decision, but is u gotta ask urself this question. Is there anything wrong with ur car, beside the misc stuff, like the 305, and the paint? Does the car run great on the streets? u even said urself that it ran flawlessly goign to LA and back. Hell for the amount of money u gonna spend on the other car, I could get u a built vortec 350 for less. That built vortec 350 would get u mid-low 13's. Have patience little skywalker. The car will treat u well.

I think it's a good base you have and has so many upgrades to it already that you'd have to spend a couple thousand on if you wanted them for a new ride.
If you have a goal speed wise, just find the most economical way to achieve it.
I know you fancy blowers, toss one on as it stands and jump to high 13's possibly.
Add a decent cam, swap to some cheap heads, low 13's.
Just depends what you want out of the car.

Yeah it is a very reliable car.I just Have a bad feeling that once this baby gets here I will have no money left for the car and I want to get it all done asap and I know I can't get it all done in time.Like I said, if i can get it painted then I will be happy for now. This rear end is getting the best of me and I have been back and forth with it.I have tomorrow off so I'm gonna work all day on it, I'm going to shampoo the door panels and carpet, take all the vents out and get all the dust out, Install the aluminum driveshaft and adjust the ebrake and maybe that'll take care of the vibe and rear brakes.
I will be happy with mid 13's, ls1 territory will be fine.
Some kid at work said that since I drive a trans am that I should have a mul*et
I told him I would much rather drive my redn*ck cadillac than the corolla that he drives.

With some folks, getting different wheels every year or so is like an addiction. Do you need a 12 step program?

Seriously, decide on what platform you want to start with and go from there: Current car, different car. Makes no never mind so long as it makes you happy.

see with the car u have u already know what u have to do, with the other car who know how bad shape it's in. like what del said, u have a great base to work on (thanks to me
) Like i said before with the money u bout to fork out on the other car, i could get u a forged vortec 350 for couple hundred less, brand spanking new internals. All u need is to find a 350 block. I just have a bad feeling that the other gta would give u more problems. and end up spending more money. but u have to check it out first.
Steve, tell ur coworker to stfu or u pour a bag of rice down his gas tank and pee in it to give him extra hp.

I've just been getting discouraged with it, paint, rear end, vibe, hatch not setting all the way down. Not all big problems but it seems like they're starting to stack up.I do love the car and It feels great blasting down the road, and it gets looks everywhere I go too.See, I knew you guys would make me feel better about it.Who needs that other t/a?I'm sticking with this one.
Now paint wise, I have narrowed it down to, current(metallic midnight blue), Dark green/gray metallic(most likely), or midnight rose(Looks black in low light but has a dark red tint in the sun).

Well I cleaned up the interior, shampooed the door panels, I'm picking up a black carpet kit as this carpet is stained. I greased up my lca's again because they were creaking bad. I even spent a little time polishing the driveshaft before I put it in. My wife thinks I'm stupid for cleaning up a piece that nobody will see but I like having clean stuff so...

Ive decided to keep it and use my bonus every month to buy something new.I might do a 4th gen console swap and black carpet on the next one, then stealthram and cam.

Well I found a guy on norcal-ls1 that is selling forth gen TA seats and the center console. Front and rear seats are 350 bucks and the center console is 150 with shifter. I dunno what color are the seats. also on norcal-ls1 this guy is selling a 98t/a roller for 5k's, gutted interior with an exception of carpets, center console, race seat, and a roll cage, and no drivetrain. It does have full suspension, (front coilovers, adj lca,adj panhard rod, adj torque arm), and a high flow fuel pump

I'm gonna do a 98-00 manual console. It will be an easier swap, plus when I do the manual swap it will be ready to go.

There's a vibration that's coming from the motor somewhere, I think it's actually the torque converter so I'm gonna test that and see. It's vibrating from 1,800 - 2,300 rpm and it feels like it's locking and unlocking while cruising up hill at a light steady throttle. It might be doing it on level ground but I'm not using enough throttle to feel it.I goes away if I let off or give it more gas.The rpm raises 1-200 rpm than drops back down within a split second.

A console from any manual 97-02 car will work, fwiw.
Dont bother with earlier models, they don't have the cool cupholder.
