SOLD
My Firebird, as of this moment, is no longer mine.
Actually, I sold it a few weeks ago.
To my dad. LoL.
For the state it was in, 2400. Not bad.
I've got several options now for some new play toys!
A. Sell my daily driver (my 99 Camry), and buy an 2006 GTO. (It'll be an automatic.)
B. Buy a crotch rocket, street bike, whatever you want to call it. Engine + 2 wheels. I'll be set. Keep Camry.
C. Sell Camry and buy a 00-02 Silverado (I miss drivin' a truck.)
D. Buy anoter Third Gen.
E. Hold out for the 5th gen comin' out in a few yrs.
F. Not spend any more money what so ever til after I'm done w/ school and out of debt from the gov't whose paying for school

Personally I've got my eye on the GTO. I'm about to start making a LOT more money, I just might put a downpayment on one.. that is if the Nova doesn't go through.

Yeah I might even look into an '04 if I go that route. I'll just buy a cam/headers and call it a day.

I think we're heade for another departure. If it wasn't the case, Elle would be telling us about the third gen deals in her area.
Can we start the search for you, Elle? What is your price range?

I think no car payments are the way to go. I'd much rather dump $20K into my $5k IROC over the course of 3-5 years, than buy a newer hot rod with more smog restrictions and a payment for $30+k over the next 3-5 years. I understand that not everyone makes the same $, but you'll pay way more than sticker price over those yearly payments when you add all the intrest. Elle, C'mon! Do some research, get a clean third gen that runs, pay cash, do the necessary mods needed, upgrade as things go bad. When my radiator went out, I bought a Griffing Alum. Rad. When my water pump went bad I got an alum. one. etc. That way it doesn't hurt the pocket book to bad. If you're gonna have a monthly payment anyways, put $300 a month into the bank for the (un)exspected things that go out. I exspect some stuff to go out as the car get's older. I just had the trans and rear end rebuilt on my wifees Tahoe. But since we don't have a payment, I had them both built up to handle more h.p., so when the motor goes, I can upgrade that as well and know that the trans back will be able to handle the extra hp.

Well of course I agree with buying a new 06 gto. The 6spd. is so much better though, and faster, you should learn to drive one, way worth it, plus you won't have to pay gas guzzler tax on the 6spd, sticker price is cheaper too.
Don't get me wrong guys, I really did love my thirdgen. Got tired of all the crap though. Someday I will have another one, when I have the time it takes, it's not about the money for me, it's all about the time. Don't diss on us who like to buy stock cars already done up and fast. Nothing wrong with that, doesn't make us less of car people. I can still do stuff to my gto and smoke you all if I wanted too. Then again, there is always going to be someone faster, so really, who cares.
Bish, stop calling them grand prix's, lol. It's just the pontiac look, period, you can't deny it's a gto though, everyone who knows and loves these cars likes the looks, me included.
And Terrell, looks stupid without the spoiler, sorry Kyle, I like your car, don't get me wrong. But I really do like the spoiler, sets the car off and gives it a more agressive look, mine is staying. Just my opinion of course, to each his own.

i dont mind someone coming along and showing me whats up as long as its someone like terrell thats building a turbo motor from the ground up, thats pretty cool, but no bolt on engine better come along, save for the 60k+ dollar brand new sportscars. but those guys never race anyways.

its ok!!! everyone has an opinion. I took the spoiler of the car to take it back to its australlian roots i think it loks better that way. might i add everyone knows the potential os ls1 and ls2 cars thats why people want to swap the motor into there cars. And on the smog think i dont have to smog my car until 2008 and that will be its first smog check sinse 2004. Dont worry travis you have time untill i do my big mods iam going to build a fully forged 402 with a 25x 25x 6xx 6xx cam and etp 245cc heads. I think that will be good for some low 11s on motor. I give everyone credit that builds there own cars but i just think its coll to have a later modle car that sounds like a old school. I am not the kind of person to leave stuff stock all of you that have me tme should know that. Even though the ta had alot of issues i loved it and built it. so

haha, this gals' thread got dropped, hard.
you're one crazy 3rd gen loving owner Travis.
i'd run it at the track once before i'm threatening 11's and obliterating everyone.
no doubt you've put more work into your car than most, but bring it down a notch son!
lets see some modesty and some proof eh?

give your mananger a week notice for a day off or go on a friday or saturday. You better get some slicks cause even if that car is capable of an 11 second pass your not going to do it on street tires.

you better run it before you brag about it travis.
and 11s isn't even that fast. Bolt on LS1s can run 11s. I could put a 150 shot on my car, get some slicks and you'd see mid 11 second times no problem.
There's nothing wrong with buying a newer car because you want something NICE. There is absolutely no comparison between your car and a brand new GTO in that regard - the GTO is hands down a much nicer car in every way. And it hauls ***. Don't see the problem there?
And what's this about car payments... I read in another thread that you have car payments on your 80s Camaro? I bought my '85, '94 and '97 flat out in cash..... the only car you should EVER take a loan for is a brand new ride that you can trade in later because it's still worth something.
Cliffs Notes: Go run it before you talk **** to everyone.

the only reasons i make payments on the iroc is at the time i was carless, so i took the loan to buy it and i pay 100 bucks a month on it. i only pay it like that to help my credit. i could have it paid off if i wanted but no reason too. my 98 is paid off in full and i paid twice as much for that then the iroc. and if elevens arent fast how come your lt1 is stuck in the 13's

So let's get back to the topic at hand here... ME.
Anyways, Mike, I'm keeping my eye out for a nice FB/GTA. But I'm not in a rush to go buy anything at the moment. But if you see anything, let me know! I'm really in the market for a 89-92 Camaro convertible... mmMMmM... Down here, it's better to go topless, esp in the heat. haha. jk
If you find one in relatively good shape, preferably a V8 although I wouldn't turn down a V6 if the price is right. And, distance doesn't matter. Although I'd rather NOT drive to say like, Eoureka or anything (somewhere in BFE).
If I remember correctly, did Pontaic put out a Turbo Trans Am or am I making stuff up? I'd like to get my grubby little hands on one of those.
The GTO is calling my name though. I went w/ Ryan last wk to test drive one, although he drove and it was a manual 6 speed, the sheer beauty of the car I loved. I don't know how to drive a stick shift, so I'll stick with my automatics.
Travis, car payments/loans aren't an issue to me. I don't mind paying down 400-500 dollars a month for a car that is WORTH it finanically. In a few yrs, I can go trade it in and upgrade.
Blah blah blah, your car is fast with the 383 stroker yada yada yada. Who cares? If I was in a brand new GTO, even driving an automatic, I'd leave your happy butt in the dust. There's always some one bigger and badder. Geez. And, btw, I LIKE the new Grad Prix's.
Make fun of me, whatever. But I'm a girl.
Daniel, there was nothing majorly wrong with my Firebird other than my having a permanent headache b/c I was burnt out on the car. :sigh: I'll get another one, eventually. There's no doubt in my mind. But at the rate I was going w/ that damn car, I would've collected my insurance policy before I got anything else done w/ it.
So, I may get a new GTO, a crotch rocket, or hold out for the Camaro's. Who knows?

Rare '89 Firebird 'vert in the sale section:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fire...ible-very.html
I won't bother posting info. about the '89 Turbo TA's, because you probably couldn't afford one.
They are rare collector cars, only made that year, 1500 or so total.
The GP comparison is pretty funny.
Just goes to show you can't replicate the past.
I'm a Pontiac guy for life though, so I can't put down a sweet ride like the GTO regardless of it's less than aggressive exterior.

It's also newer, NICER and actually has A/C. And as far as anyone is concerned, your iroc isn't even a 13 second car, having never been ran.the nova is my new project, and it won't stop at 11s.
my whole point is, don't talk ANYTHING, until you've ran your car and know where it stands - because until you have proof to back it up it's all bull****. You can speculate all you want, but you are talking like you have proof it's an 11 second car. I don't think you'll hit 11s on those tires anyway.

My financial standing is nothing to comment upon, all you need to know is that if I can happily afford a brand new GTO, I can probably happily afford a TTA. (Should I find one I LIKE.)

Sorry tootse, let me fill you in then.
Find one you like?
They are all identical.
White w/tan interior.
All autos.
3.8 liter turbo v6's.
Only 1,550 made.
They are collector cars, you don't buy one and drive it everyday to work is what I should have said.
But if you've got 20-30K to throw down at the drop of a hat on a car you don't know much about, here's a link:
eBay Motors: Buick : Grand National (item 4642794029 end time May-28-06 17:15:00 PDT)

It's also newer, NICER and actually has A/C. And as far as anyone is concerned, your iroc isn't even a 13 second car, having never been ran.

Whatever!
Check this insanity: TGO Firebirds for Sale. Is the fool in that thread me or the guy selling that car for 35K? After looking at Terrel's links, I'd say he's 15K more foolish.
I'll keep my eyes open for you, Elle.

You're missing my point travis...
all I said was, don't talk till you have proof, expectations usually have a way of falling short once you get that timeslip.

Thanks Mike, you're a sweetie.
:sigh:
Why do men turn things into pissing contests? Travis, with your quiet demeanor, I never would've guessed that you were so uh... competetive, is the right word I believe.
Oh well!
This is kinda fun to read.
