Most cops won't stop you for it unless you're driving stupid. Then they will probably write you for everything they can to make a point. I personall havent had front plates on any of my vehicles. I also have tinted side window. I make sure when I get pulled over to be polite and realize I'm in the wrong. But to answer you ?, yes you are suppossed to have both of them. That's why you're issued 2.

ive gotten a ticket for that. went to go pay for it and the officer at the campbell pd laughed. said that the officer had to have been bored or really pissed off to issue a ticket for it.

As the law states.. Yes you have to have a front license plate on your car.

are you going to get pulled over just for that? Hard to say. Most would say no. If a cop is looking for an excuse to pull you over.. You just gave him one.

Now if you have been ouyt with some friends, had a couple of beers, are driving home and get pulled over for it. You could end up with a DUI for a stupid no front plat ticket.

Most of my friends that are cops. Won't pull over a nice car without a front plate. If your driving some beater. Odds are yea your going to get pulled over for it.

Section 5200(a) of the California Vehicle Code requires that every car have a front license plate.

Normally about a $10 fix-it ticket it you get cited, which has happened to me several times for multiple cars over the past 10 years.

I've never had a front plate on my car. I've been pulled over once hot rodding around downtown and he let me go without a ticket....didn't say anything about my front plate.

But yeah, technically you're supposed to have it.

Lets hope if your car is stolen the cop doesnt only see it from the front.

Actually, they'll use your front license plate to check you out. I just dont see the point of resisting against it. Its a law, you follow it. If its unjust, start writing your politicians and see how far that gets you.

Re: do we have to have our front license plates on?
I just got pulled over tonight. Cop said it was for no front plate(guilty), dark side window tint(guilty), and loud exhaust(guilty). Now the exhaust I could've debated, but I chose to keep my mouth shut and answer "yes sir" "no sir" and gave him my driver's liscence. When he came back he complimented my IROC and my vanity plate. He told me that he couldn't vouch for his co-workers, but that he wouldn't ever pull me over again. He said, "I really like your car!" Just goes to show you that there are some really cool cops out there, but the way you approach the situation has sooo much to do with it. Remember, they deal with dirt bags all day. Try to be respectful and if your guilty, expect the worse and hope for the best. He had every right to ticket me for all 3 violations, but didn't.
