Newbie TBI rocks Thread.
Newbie TBI rocks Thread.
Hello I just aquired a light blue
91 L03 Firebird auto and I am a newbie with the GM TBI. Although I have extensive experience with the Starion/Conquest Turbo TBI.
Questions:
Is there anyway to get more than 275hp out of the Holley replacement 670cfm TBI via turbocharging (i found an interesting twin turbo kit on ebay but it had way too much chrome on the exhaust manifolds) or supercharging?
How much power can a stock healthy L03 block vs L98 block with 100k miles take with all the bolt ons (upgraded TBI, upgraded intake manifold, turbocharged) take safely? 400hp? 500hp? 600hp?
Do I need to an ecu upgrade to drop in a L98 block for TBI? I want to keep the L03 Block's ECU. unless I can find a chip that rocks 87 octane out.
I am planning on running a twin TBI, twin Turbocharged w/ a 91-92 Fbody L98 on a manual tranny w/ the 3.08s if I do this right. Even better on 1 TBI; As you can tell I am interested in keeping TBI.
thank you for dealing with newbies, as usual. thanks.

Welcome, back I should say since it's your 2nd post since 2002, haha.
I see you've found and are probably posting in the TBI board already, where I'm sure you'll receive a plethora of responses.
Sounds like you know a lot about the TBI in general.
Can't say I do, so I won't bother answering any of the Q's.
Check out the other Nor-Cal threads, GTG's and stickys and maybe I'll see ya around.

Stock block: about 400 HP
Stock trans: about 350 HP
Stock TBI: about 300 HP
trying to turbo charge a TBI in California: Impossible to pass smog check.

Don't forget that the L0 stands for "low output"
Poorly said Superfro! yadididoodadimean?
Re: Newbie TBI rocks Thread.
350hp on the stock auto tranny? how about the T5? do i need a T56 or somthing to handle more than 400 hp?
300hp out of the TBI is sad. thats the same thing with the starion/conquest tbi. Whatsup with that 300hp limit? has anyone ever used upgraded injectors and/or the 4 injector TBI system? I read somwhere that there are high performance TBIs that can handle almost 1000hp. although I havent found anything exept for turbocity's bored out TB, and Holley's Performance 670 TB. I really want to utilize the wet manifold system under pressure.
Smog? Bolt ons are easy to replace

Welcome to the board from the central coast. Don't know anything about TBI, and I'm still learning about my TPI. I hope to see you at the gtg in April.

The stock T5 is about 350 HP max as well. Some have broke from stock power, and others are doing fine at 400 hp.
TBI biggest problem in my opinion is the two-barrel setup. Two injectors cant flow enough fuel. You dont see people running race cars with two-barrel carbs, do you?

Just in case you havn't seen the article yet; but Chevy High Performance magazine just came out with the latest issue. Inside, is a twin turbo 1988 Camaro- it just might give you some ideas and a good contact person. Just a thought- Good Luck, Nitro-Nicky
