SLICK tire question...

Im getting a great deal on some slicks on some old 3rdgen camaro rims. Is there anything special i need to do before i put them on. Terrel said i should be fine and i trust him but i talked to Marc about it before races and he said that i need to get some special studs in order to pass inspection at the race. I just need some light on this question. THANKS!!!

Re: SLICK tire question...

Passing Tech yesterday is not what its usually like. Its all in the name of safety.
Slicks bite harder & usually beat up weak studs & u-joints.
I wouldnt worry about it unless youre gonna be racing at the track alot.

Re: SLICK tire question...

on a stock ten bolt dont launch it to hard.
new 10.9 studs wouldn't hurt.

Re: SLICK tire question...

I don't recall if you have a 3rd gen or 4th gen rear axle. If you have the 4th gen and using 3rd gen wheels, the wheel/tire might stick out a little. I would suggest just get ET Streets. They can hook as hard. Another reason is that if you ever go run on wednesday night, they will make you run against tubbed cars running big fat slicks. They are just more strict when running slicks.

Re: SLICK tire question...

for nobody knowing

ur wheel studs need to pass through ur wheel atleast as far as they (the studs) are wide. Oh yea and c-clip rear ends don't technically pass tech without a possitive form of axle retention (and no disc brakes don't count)...but who's checking. Hope ya don't lose a wheel

Re: SLICK tire question...

I wont be racing to much just once in awhile

Some of us know that. Marc and I were talking all about it last week but like you said "who's checking". There are few rules that are not enforced at Sac Raceway. Have you guys seen any Tech checking if you have a driveshaft loop when running slicks? I have not seen one at all. However, that doesn't mean we should not follow the NHRA rule book.

Hey Jesse, what's the scoop with your car? When are you talking it out to the track?

When something breaks, you'll know when you launched too hard!
spend a little time & money, theres nothing like breaking on the start line.

HAHAHAH thats what i dont want to do! Break something when everyone is watching. But then again that would give me the excuse to rebuild something AWESOME!! I going to get those 10.9 studs to be a little safe.

Hey Bennie, Thanks for the TIPs. im going to test out my little champ 500 rims this weekend to see how it looks

Here is a old pic with my little wheels.

Re: SLICK tire question...

I helped too... jk

To break on the line is one thing... getting help from strangers to push it off the line is the next problem...the problem after that is getting it back home.

So Joey! Did I miss what you are doing here? Are you taking 2 separate wheels down (rear slicks on separate rims) or are you driving down with new rubber on the current wheels?

The SoCal gang brought a truck with slicks in the back that they changed in the parking lot at Famoso.

I just bought some slicks from Marc. He also had some old 4thgen rims that he didnt want. Being that i have a 4thgen rear end this would fit like a glove. Im going to change the wheels at my house and tow my car to the track.
