TPI tuners

I recently met a guy (Chris Silva) who does custom wiring for hot rods that use fuel injection, specifically TPI.
www.silvaswireandrods.com
He told me about a guy in the Sacremento area (Mark Romans) who used to work for Delphi(the co. that designed/programmed the ECM) and now tunes them. Anyone on here know him personally? I heard that he may be interested in doing a dyno tune if there were enought TPI guys who wanted it done. I plan on contacting him when my '54 is done, and again when my IROC is done. Just curious if any of you Sac guys know him. Also John Spear from Speartech, but he's in Anderson, IN.

Re: TPI tuners

I've known Mark for several years now and he has tuned my TPI.
He is well known around Sac, more for his LS1 tuning.

I'm closer to you than Sacramento is, but I'm not a professional TPI tuner, just a guy who does it as side work.

There are many shops that have dynos with decent LS1 tuning all over Nor-Cal. Mark does a lot of street driven tuning, but can go to shops as well that have dynos.

You won't find any shops around here that specialize in TPI/TBI 3rd gens, for obvious demand and technology reasons.
Maybe Marc and Bennie will work on changing that with the dyno at the shop there.

I know Kevin91Z ^ has some good knowledge in TPI tuning and has helped a lot of folks down south.

Look up Jason aka Camaero on this forum, he is getting good with tuning these cars and is located over here on the coast. I am unsure how many jobs he wants to take on, but it may be worth a shot. I just had him work on tuning the TPI in my 57' Chevy and it runs ALOT better now!

Re: TPI tuners

Does Mark burn chips also? Is it better to have the guy who's going to tune your car burn the chip or does it matter? I've upgraded my 69 impala from a 305 TPI with TH350 to a 350 TPI 700R4. Just installed 24 lb injectors and now need new programming.

Tuning the car and burning the chips are the same thing in my book. So, yes the guy doing the tuning should have the ability to burn you a new permanent chip, too.

Re: TPI tuners

Kevin, What do you charge? The '54 should be done within a year. It comes set from Howells electronics for SD and no smog. I'd like to be able to maximize my fuel consumption as my '54 is more of a cruiser than a hot rod. Also when my IROC is finished, I'd really like to dial it in for performance. I think if I set my gears up right on the IROC, I should be able to get around 25 MPG in 5th gear taching about 1500 rpms. I want the 1st four gears to mimic close to my 700R and have the 5th gear as an overdrive for freeway speeds(65-75mph). This is all a pipe dream as the '54 is priority now and my '88 is going down hill fast with 230k+ on it. I'm hearing new noises in the transmission and the top end is burning oil at a faster rate these days. I've felt a significant lose of power in the last few months. Did I mention I need to finish my '54? I better get to the overtime again!

I'd like to get the optimal mpg for the truck. I may have to swap the rear gears to do that. Not sure yet. I'll be happy with 20+mpg.

I am getting 21 mpg in the 57' after Jason helped me with the chip. Your truck shoud be close or better with very little hassle.

Is that at 65mph? What gears out back? I have 3.73's on the '54 from my old '84 Z/28.
