Cat out of the bag...

O.K I have been away for awhile. In my absence, I see some of you are now running S.C.'s.....

I got a few surprises under the rocks hood now as well. I was not too happy with my last set up and decided to ditch the tpi

I am home today and want to post some motor pics, but have not done it in the past correctly. I have my digi camera, but can someone remind me how to do it?

I will give you a clue regarding my new set-up....

I won't be working with trouble codes ever again...

No SES light worries....

Re: Cat out of the bag...

THANKS GUYS-

THE AIR CLEANER IS A PROFORM DROP BASE AND A SUMMIT TOP. THE PLAN WAS TO FIT THIS UNDER THE HOOD. WON'T FIT. I ORDERED A GOODMARK STEEL HOOD 4" COWL. I MAY RUN A 5" ELEMENT WITH A FOAM SURROUND TO MEET THE HOOD TRUE COWL INDUCTION.

DID ANYONE NOTICE THE FASTBURN HEADS AND MEDIUM RISE HOLLEY VORTEC? I HOPE THIS THING SCREAMS. I CHANGED OUT THE SLP 1 5/8 AND NOW HAVE COATED SLP 1 3/4 HEADERS HOPEFULLY ALL THE POWDERCOATING WILL SURVIVE. SO WHO CAN TUNE A HOLLEY 750 D.P.? STILL RUNNING THE HOTCAM.

Yep, that's what I was going to do too. It's cheaper than buying the K&N setup.

After you finish the text of your post click on the little paper clip next to the smilie face. That will pop open and window then click on the browse button and go to where your pictures on stored on your computer. Select the pics you want and then click the upload button.

Re: Cat out of the bag...

HMMN, THIS SET UP IS REALLY THE ZZ430 SPEC MOTOR. SHOULD HAVE 430 H.P. AT THE CRANK. THE REASON FOR THE COWL HOOD IS MY INTAKE IS A MEDIUM RISE, I NEEDED LIKE 3 MORE INCHES. RUNNING 1 3/4 SHORTY HEADERS NOW TOO.

FUNNY, AT THE TRACK ON CRAPPY RADIALS I HAD A HARD TIME FENDING OFF THE 5.0'S....

NO HOOK UP, ONLY SPIN IN 1ST, 2ND, HAD TO LET UP AND RE-LAUNCH IN TOP OF SECOND, 5.0 AT MY REAR QUARTER, JUST LEFT IT IN 3RD GEAR AND WATCHED THE STANGS ON STREET SLICKS SLIDE BY....

SO...........

I GOT M/T'S NOW, MY OTHER BUDDY SHOWED ME THAT MY PULL GEAR IS 4TH, NOT THIRD...

HE WAS RIGHT, HIT 4TH GEAR EARLY AND KEEP MY FOOT IN IT...SHE JUST SCREAMED, PRETTY FAST. THE CHIP MARK BURNED WAS PRETTY GOOD, BUT MY CAR CHUGGED ALOT.

NOW, NO CHIP WORRIES JUST DON'T REMEMBER MUCH ABOUT TUNING A CARBED CAR. I THINK IN SEPTEMBER SHE WILL HIT THE ROAD. BENNIE GET THAT DYNO UP YET?

Re: Cat out of the bag...

UPDATE: 12/10/08'

IROC still is not running. However, I have made some progress.

1. stock hood now fits and still using medium rise vortec manifold and 3' air cleaner. (like a 1/4 inch room) took out a carb spacer (had trouble clearing my brake booster vacum connect) I filed a big corner off the fitting. I also had a spacer for the aircleaner to sit higher (the drop base was rubbing on my throttle return spring mount) I flipped the spring/cable mount upside down.

2. Installed the aeromotive afpr only to have no fuel pressure at the carb. I poured some gas down the carb anyway and she fired right up! is loud! I think louder then the tpi.

3. trouble shooted the no fuel pressure and found something wrong in the carb, but I don't know what. When I turn the key on, the pump energizes, sends fuel to the carb which now shoots fuel straight up and out via the power valve vent tube? I have not taken the carb off yet.

So I heard it run, but lost interest to troubleshoot the carb until spring. too cold to work on the rock right now.

Re: Cat out of the bag...

i HAVE AROUND 6 LBS. AFTER THE AFPR. Stuck needle or float? Am hoping it is this simple.

Travis, funny, nope we have not met yet, but I have seen a picture of you...
What are going to do about that new hole in your hood? I would just clean up the edges and leave it there... it looks o.k. would just leave it and stay out of the rain.

Re: Cat out of the bag...

Sorry to hijack but if you want your hood fixed travis i could make a custom blister over the hole for you. Just bring your car down to my shop I owe you for the tuning stuff anyway.

I'm hoping so too but easy way to check is to pop off the fuel bowls and check for any debris / hung up floats. Try knocking on the bowls with a block of wood and see if it unsticks anything without even pulling the bowls. I'd put new needle / seat in if it hasn't been replaced as they are finicky (sp?)

Have you had the carb rebuilt or is it new? I could rebuild a Holley 4150 in my sleep, they are e-z.
