Hawk or Maro?
Hawk or Maro?
hey guys first time posting but have checked out this website many times and have gotten some very good advice. I am currently torn between two cars, a 1991 firebird with a 5.0 liter tbi and a 1990 camaro with same engine. firebird is manual and camaro is automatic. firebird has 147000 miles and the camaro has 185000. both are around the same price and condition. My plan eventually would be to yank out the 305 and put in a 350 no matter what car I bought but since im told that most performance parts put on a 305 can bolt right on to a 350, headers, exaust, ect, I would like to have a weekend warrior with enough pick up to dust most imports. So until I saved the money I would have to make due with the 305. This wouldnt be a daily driver or anything like I said weekend warrior. any advice would be great.

Pictures would help. I would say it depends on which body style you like more... being biased, I say go with the bird.

I agree with Bully on this one, without pics I would say that either one is as good as the other. I myself am more biased towards Camaros, and even prefer the automatic (with a little internal work and a sweet shifter of course). Post some pics if you can, otherwise I would say to buy which ever one you like more and enjoy.
Re: Hawk or Maro?
this is the only pic of the camaro the car is on sacramento craigslist. the camaro's asking price is 990 and I would have to smog it but its registered for california. The seller said the car is from neveda and didnt have to smog it. While the firebird is 1800 and is smogged and tagged up to date.

the firebird is also on sacramento craigslist. thanks for all of you input. Last edited by bigsova77; May 30, 2009 at 12:10 PM.

Re: Hawk or Maro?
go with the five speed.
you wont regret it and you will have a lot more fun.
every day i drive, i wish i had a 5 or 6 speed versus my slushbox POS that i had rebuilt for way too much money

Technically to sell the car in California he is responsible to smog the car before he sells it, but after seeing the two cars it looks to me like the bird would be the better choice.

Bird is manual....great for a weekend warrior. Less miles, better looking and up to date. I think the choice is clearly the Firebird.

I would recommend buy the newest TPI equipped 3rd gen. you can afford. How much are you willing to spend? I know someone selling 91 Z28 for $4.5k Not sure if that is in your price range. Come to think of it, I might sell one of the 3rd Gen collection I have.

Re: Hawk or Maro?
the firebird looks like its a much better choice. But i must say i disagree on the TPI thing, he wants a weekend warrior not a nice daily driver, and as we all know its ALOT cheaper to get a Carb'd intake to flow better then ours.
