Concord Auto Body and Paint
Anybody around here heard of this place? The internet is crawling with glowing reviews from people all over the Bay Area and they quoted me $3000 paint my car, including some door dings, some disassembly, prep, and Bright Red PPG Base/Clear. Every other shop I talked to wanted $5k - $6k for the same thing. He guarantees my satisfaction and will warranty it for as long as I own the car.
In all honesty it seemed too good to be true, but I'm gonna go with them anyway. Maybe it's the economy. If somebody has an experience let me know, if not, I'll be the first one to share!

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
I'm not down there, so never heard of them, but it sounds like a good deal for a 2-stage + minor bodywork.
When are you getting it done? I'll be interested to hear the results and workmanship.
I'm hoping next year to repaint mine + some minor bodywork and adding new spoiler, emblems, etc. 3K is the ballpark I was hoping for, but haven't priced the shops around here recently.

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
I was blown away at the prices most places were telling me. I was hearing things like "We start at 5k with no body work" from SEVERAL places. I was one more $5K+ quote away from saying **** it and taking it to Maaco. Then I heard 4k from one guy and was somewhat relieved, and went to one of his nearby competitors (who KNEW I just came from the shop next door) and said he'd beat his price by a thousand bucks. He gave me a tour of his shop, showed me cars and restorations that he's done that were sitting around, and everything looked great. He had a "baking booth", frame rack, sanding/body work room, paint booth, etc etc etc. Seemed legit. There are 33 reviews online here:
http://local.yahoo.com/info-29495277...-paint-concord
and all but 1 are 5/5 stars. I asked about checking it out mid-progress and told me feel free to move into his shop and sleep next to it if I wanted. (Lol.)
I'll post up pics and a full review when it's done.

Good stuff.
You can get 2-stage jobs at Maaco for 2-3K also, but it's always good to do the research and find the best place for your particular job.
I'm ~1.5 hours from Concord, but I'd probably exhaust all my options here first before dropping it down there.

If it sounds to good to be true...it just might...Is he going to strip back to bare metal? Same color? if not what about the trunk ad the jams? What if he finds some. "hidden rust or damage?"... Those are classic hidden adds, and he does have to protect himself. I assume you checked him out on Yelp...so it might be worth at try...good luck

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
I got quoted $3500 for just the bodywork alone on my IROC when I brought it down to Miracle.
I told the guy "What the **** did I bring you, a trailer full of body panels?"
When he said um and gargled on his own spit for a few minutes I don't think I laughed so hard in my life, needless to say I left their parking lot a fogbank

A case of beer and less than $1500 later I had my car painted at my local Earl Schweib in dual stage, bodywork and rolled fenders included w/ lifetime warranty, you've seen her all dolled up...
IMHO $3k for a dual stage in factory Bright Red is a good deal, but if I were you and had $3k to drop I would go to Reno and get one that will last the life of the car.

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
My car is officially in the hands of the body man.
I am pacing. I don't like this one bit.
Can't wait till it's done.
Total bill will be $3700.
That's for all door dings, removal and re-installation of all body panels and parts except the doors, 2 stage PPG factory red, black headlight buckets, door jambs, and partial under hood to cover up the green fenders.
It will also be getting black heritage stripes (vinyl) applied.

A paint job is matter of perspective, and is only as good as to how close you are to the car.
Cars dont have to be sanded down to bare metal to get a good paint job & most body shops wont do that unless there's a reason to.
I started out working in body shops before I got into auto repair, and i 've squirted several nice daily drivers, and it never fails that no matter how far you park away from everybody else, there's always some idiot that has to park right next to you and give you that first door ding in your 100+ hour paint job.
The last guy to ding my last repainted car got his windows bashed out in a Raleys parking lot, then I drove away , never to paint another car again.

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
Say that same comment after you just repaint your F-body and get a nice one that goes down to the metal
Just because I have "long doors" doesn't give some dipstick the right to hit my ****ing car!
I might not have bashed out any windows but have been known to take a side view mirror or two off, especially on the scooter, right on Marc!

Did you do any prep before dropping off? That's pretty cool if they didn't hold you to just the dents you pointed out and will do whatever is needed to make it clean.

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
The only thing I did for them was take off my door panels (only because I know how fragile they are and I like to put them on my own way) and remove the rear interior plastic that covers the hatch release (so they could easily get to the brake light nuts/rear bumper nuts). But they didn't ask me to do any of this.
I didn't point out anything. There were a few dings that I knew about that I was planning on pointing out to them, but by the time I got there they had already found them and fixed them, along with a bunch more that I didn't even know about.
The work order invoice just says "Repair any damage around the car."

Re: Concord Auto Body and Paint
Notice how its not sanded down to metal, there is nothing wrong with that.
The original base has gone through an oven that's hot enough to melt the interior.
The orig base is is solid foundation for the new paint.
If they were going down to metal, they wouldn't be spreading mud on it yet.
So far so good, what is the final color, (it may have been mentioned already).
