So Iam contemplating taking the a/c out of the car, and just getting the a/c delete pulley and the heater box. The reason is this isnt a daily driver by any means, (but it will be on long trips) and i just painted the engine bay and im trying to make it nice and clean. Just wondering how many of you did the same thing and if your happy with it. I saw Will's iroc and his engine bay is nice and clean looking.
I don't have a Camaro
, but I do have A/C in my GTA. Almost never use it, but it's there!

I removed mine. If I had it to do over, I'd prolly make some modifications and keep it. On a hot day, I really miss it. Otherwise, it makes working on that side a lot easier without it all in the way

I have had mine for 13 years. I cant remember ever using it. Hmm, now im curious.

I did not have my A/C for the past 5 years after my LS1 swap. Guess what im doing right now, Putting A/C back in it. You cant live in the Valley without A/C. Keep it bro

Mines not a daily driver by any means, but it's primary purpose is a street car. With that said, I do not have A/C right now but I am going to put it back in. But keeping with the tradition of the car, it won't be a stock system. I plan on either modifying a ac box or making one and mounting it under the dash. There's not tons of room, but there is enough. I also plan on a polished aluminum compressor with march brackets and braided ac and heater lines. I'll then find a set of switches and ***** that activate the blend door by cable and not vacuum.

i still have a/c. i have thought about taking it out, but its just to hot in the south without it.
Supreme Member
I have to have it. Daily driver and I'm a fat boy so I sweat when I see someone wallking haha.

My A/C work damn good and I'm never gonna get rid of it. Best part of it is that the engine doesn't heat up past 185 in the summer. The car still has the stock radiator. Not too bad for a 392whp car with 3.73 gears.
dang you guys!! No help ... hahah thanks for the responses I better start polishing as much as i can

Remember you have a lot of glass where sunlight can really heat up the car. A/C is not always needed, but nice on some days.
The A/C compressor will shut off at wide open throttle so no real loss of power there. Same with power steering pressure, A/C will shut off when taking hard corners.

Couldn't wait to rip that useless 10lbs of **** in a 5lb bag non-working R12 garbage out of my car as soon as I got it

Live in AZ would not own one without AC>> Gotta have one!

Im not worried about robbing any kind of power whats so ever, chances are if I keep it ill use it a few times a year. Just like I do with my daily driver honda civic but that actually robs be of mpg so thats kinda why with the honda. Im more worried about the clunky ness of the whole system and how much i actually use it vs how nice and clean your engine bay looks when your done removing it.Originally Posted by ckelton

Our car is black and it can get very here in Sac so could not go without AC!

I had to gather parts to put my A/C back in the car. Someone did an engine swap before I got it, although they put in a 305. The a/c works great though, running it on 410a no problems.

Used it twice, been out of the car for years now.

well you got a 4.56 gears and a 4000 stall cartman you dont do that much street or highway driving....or do you?

my car is my DD, with T tops its like a mini microwave without a/c since my dad has his own shop and i know how to work on stuff, i swaped all the o rings, put the r134 fitting on it put some oil in it, pulled it into a vacuume and she held
so i got working a/c for about 20 bucks

A bit off topic, but many moons ago I bracket raced a big block 73 Vette. If I was "out" on the other lane at the 800' to a 1000' mark I would flip on the air with the fan on hi to prevent the dreaded breakout but still get the win light!!!
Hey, it was a no box bracket, ya gotta do what you gotta do! About every other Saturday afternoon, one of the tech guys would crawl all over the underdash and underhood area of the car looking for the retard box!!! After I sold the car and moved to Super classes, I told him about the A/C deal----he still hates me.....

i have A/C in my KARR and I use it every year

Unless you only want drive in the winter, you need A/C 6 to 7 months of the year here in Texas to survive. I drove an old VW here for a few years and it was miserable from May to October even with the window vents. In a car without window vents like a thirdgen, you would be wet with sweat pretty quickly, the interior would never get much below 100 degrees in the daytime. Not an enjoyable ride.

Chico area, the last couple years I haven't driven the car much but used to be my only car. Temps range from 30's-40's in winter to 100+ in the summer.Originally Posted by dspencer24

Don't forget, my car hasn't always been like it is now, it used to be my daily driver. About a year after I got it back on the road from buying it, out came the A/C and just ran a heater. It just didn't seem to work that great even when fully charged so I just ended up driving around with the windows down.Originally Posted by UnderCover89TBI

I gotcha. I did not know the whole history of your car. Cool stuff. Mine works good enough to have it! I'd love to not have to have it!Originally Posted by EvilCartman

I know, just the heat from the motor and trans (when it was an automatic still). Going to the drive ins, I would open the hood for an hour before the movies started to let as much heat out as possible because the car just gets hot.

yeah I know that problem

The drive ins are amazing.
It is a bummer that there are not more around because it is a great place for people like us to meet but there are not a lot of third gens out and about.
I have had my a/c on every day so far just to keep the air on the cool side

Which never happens in bama

Oh yeah we got a couple of drive-ins here in AL I just so happen to live right down the road from one.... too bad my stereo doesn't work.

Junior Member
haha. the drive ins here is only a 10 minute drive from my house. I have a nice sound system in mine. A custom sub box that I built to fix the entire trunk. nice 6x9s and then the crappy 4x6 in the dash. I also installed 6inch rounds in the doors.
