Run to the coast 3

This last weekend I had the privilege to participate in a event called Run to the Coast, hosted by pro-touring.com. This event took place at El Toro marine base in Irvine, CA. I spent five days in L.A. with my friend and fellow board member, Carguy502 aka Don. He was a great host as I crashed every night on his living room floor.
I was going to take my Iroc but finding a cost effective way to get my car all the way down south was not happening. The first two days down south was spent preparing Don's '69 Nova for the races on saturday. The race actually took place on friday and saturday but we did not make the friday race due to unforeseen valvetrain issues (faulty out of box new roller rockers). After replacement of rockers, pushrods, taking a dremel to valve covers, exhaust gaskets and tire clearancing, we are off to the races on saturday. It was a big day with a road coarse, autocross and a go-stop-box challenge. I believe it was about 110 cars registered for the event. The weekend was finished off on sunday with a nice cruise and a few highway picture moments all lined up across the lanes and another one of us all racing (shhh). The cruise took a break at the NHRA museum and then followed by a great lunch offered by one of the sponsors, TCI. I would not trade this amazing car weekend for anything. All of this action has motivated me to get moving on my camaro and get it so much more towards perfection. I will be going to next years event and my camaro WILL be there.
This was Pro-touring's third annual event and the second one I have attended.

NHRA museum photo op.

Some arizona TGO members made an appearance.

My buddy Dons Nova I slaved away on for two days to prepare for this race.

Some of the sponors cars at this event.

I know a few of you here will really appreciate this second gen

I encourage all of you that have any interest in racing outside of a straight line to consider making this kind of commitment with me next year. There is lodging all the racers use half a mile from the track that includes group pricing and great safe parking for our cars.

Great description and pics. Of course I like the red GTA and black 2nd gen, but even more the blue 2nd gen Formula in the other pic with the nostril hood.

I'd love to do an event like this someday when my car is better prepared.

Re: Run to the coast 3

Hi guys!

This was a great event. The last minute thrash was pretty epic, but we got there. I cannot emphasize enough the sense of fun and camaraderie that exists between guys in 15k cars and 150k cars. We razzed Bill Goldberg for taking out the timing equipment on the road course and Bill, in turn, offered gas to me when I starved the motor in a corner and spun out. Kyle Tucker from DSE gave my buddy Ryan a ride in their 730 HP Nova just so he could check it out. The fun is immense and I can't wait for the second go.

Cheers,
Don

Sounds great. Keep us in mind and give us more details and heads up time for next year. I only wish my '91 was even close to the outside of the ballpark of 15k!

Re: Run to the coast 3

Absolutely. I might be inclined not to thrash it so much on the track if it was worth a lot more. Although by the time I'm done I'll probably have spent plenty on it.
