advice on performance chip
Hey guys i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on performance chips.I have been looking to add a little more power to my stock 305 tbi. Some of my friends say its worth it and some say its just ****. I have been looking at the g-force performance chips and the chip has caught my interest. What do you guys suggest?http://www.gfchips.com/dyno-proven.aspx

Re: advice on performance chip
get rid of stock air cleaner and put either an open element, or some sort of cold air induction on it.
Do headers, high flow cat, complete cat back exhaust.
I ran a hypertech thermomaster at one point and time and it deffinately did something.
Another chip you might wanna look at is tbichips.com
it'd be better to tune the car but if your car is relatively stock then a mail order chip will be okay. it is when you start adding cam, heads etc that those chips dont work to well anymore unless you datalog and send them info and all that.
I wouldn't put too much in to the performance of TBI. You can make good power with these systems but their are more econimical ways. And with SMOG it is hard to have a fast and smog legal car.

Re: advice on performance chip
cool. i wouldn't buy any parts that you can't use on the 350 then. TBI is very reliable and pretty good on fuel. If you end up getting super serious you'd want to get into tuning

Regarding performance chips. PCM''s for Less, is what I think I remember is the name of the company. Most chips only change the tune for when you push the accelerator all the way open. The PCM chip is done by you filling in a 'check' box page, so it covers every single area you've modified.
When I received my chip the IROC idled like a dream; even though I wasn't aware there was any smooth idle issue to begin with- it was just spectacularly that much better! Plus, I was able to get a couple things programed into it that I was going to have done to the engine within the next 6 months, so I didn't have to reprogram the chip, when I dropped in the larger injectors and a handful of other things. PCM also had a real easy exchange program at the time for when I went crazier with engine mods. That was like 6-7 years ago, so look them up and see what's new.
An off the shelf chip will never be able to take our California smog laws and our personal driving styles into account. It's like buying a prepaid phone card. Does that explain it, or did I get in too much of a hurry?? Nitro-Nicky
