Which towns have problem cops and traps?

Just curious. are there certain towns in the Chicagoland area where you can have a problem with the law if you have a nice fast looking 3rd gen. I know for instance that in Homewood every cop has live radar on in evry car no matter what direction they are going in- they are clocking you. Same with Country Club Hills. Monee is pretty bad also, especially at the gas station right off of the I 57 exit.

Any where else?

Well you probably won't have to worry about this one but Valparaiso is horrible.. It's a college town and the cops LOVE to harrass the kids. My mom works with a kid who owns a sharp looking Camaro and he tells her that the cops pull him over all the time because he's a kid driving a nice, fast car. I've been pulled over for no reason at all in my Trans Am. I mean I've never gotten a ticket but this was the first time I ever got pulled over, and the cop asked me for my license and registration and all that, and I was nervous and he started asking me why I'm acting so nervous. So, I told him I've never been pulled over, and he was like "Do you have any weapons or narcotics in your vehicle?" I was like "No sir" so he said "Would you mind stepping out of the vehicle?" so I did, he made me put my hands on the hood while he patted me down and asked me what I was out doing. I told him I was going shopping (which I was) and he said "Ok well I'm just checking people because we've had problems with drug trafficing lately, you're free to leave" That just pissed me off, I never got pulled over before, clean driving record, yet I was getting stared at on Highway 30 like I was a criminal or something. Wierd part about it, cop didn't say a word to me about my 5% tint on the door windows.. Go figure.

Yep, I've been pulled over for bright fog lights on rt. 30. The cop said they "blinded him". Yeah right. He asked me why I had my fog lights on when there wasn't any fog. I told him b/c it's my car and I can. He didn't like that The cops in Valpo are dicks

hey allmotorta where in portage do you live? my girl lives in Portage. Hey man come on down to Blue Top Saturday. Easy to get to: Take ripley north to the 80/94 exit, up to indianapolis Blvd south, 4 lights and yer there!

Highland is a push over town. But Scheriville, Lansing, and Munster are definitely towns not to F with! I'm always paranoid that their VG2 with pick up my radar detector. That's just what i need more crap from bacon.

I actually live in South Haven, it's a little neighborhood between Portage and Valpo. I'll post up soon whether or not I can make it to blue top on saturday, I usually work till midnight, but I will see what I can do. Thanks for the directions, but I used to go there all the time last year . Also, my 60' times are gettin a little too good for my weak *** 7.5" rearend, it's startin to make a lot of noise, I've broken 2 ring and pinion sets already , I don't know if I want to drive anywhere far with the rearend like it is But I might anyways, I am good friends w/ a tow truck driver .
ps: u guys don't mind a 4th gen owner here do ya? It's just the only NW IN forum I've ever seen, it's pretty cool to talk to locals, ya know? We all have F-bodies in our blood, right?
Talk to ya fellas later!!

Gosh, sounds like the cops in Valpo have gotten worst!!! I grew up in Valpo and back when I was a teen (early 80's), Valpo was THE PLACE TO BE on a Friday or Saturday night! We used to have a cruise that started from down town and went down Lincoln Way upto Burger King (that was the turn around point). It became so popular, that it was take 18 minutes to drive from the court house to BK!!!! At that time, the cops weren't bad at all. Nobody was causing trouble or acting stupid. Everyone just hung out and had a good time... it was like a 5 hour long parade!

Then in the mid 80's, a lot fo the business owners (Round the Clock restaurant and some other one down there across the street from it) started complaining about the kids hanging out, no place for their customers to park (because we (the kids) more or less owned the streets and all the parking lots those nights), and just putting up a big stink.

Then the City Council passed a law that made cruising illegal! The car club I belong to at the time (along with other clubs) tried to stop the city form passing such a law, but the business owners won. It sucked!!!

We then tried to hang out at County Seat Plaza, but it just wasn't the same.

Portage, everyone used to hang out at BK on Central. The cops there SUCKED!!!! BIG TIME!!!!! I got pulled over once there because they tried to tell me my hood scoop was too big. (I won that argument because at the time, there was no state or local law regarding them.

Blue Top Drive'in! Gosh did I love that place!!!! The only way to describe Blue Top was to have someone watch the movie Hollywood Knights (you know, Tubby's Drive'in). The only thing that I didn't like about B.T. was the owner was a real jerk off when it came to teens and their cars. If you were an adult with a bad ride, you no problem, you could stay as long as you wanted. But if you were a kid, then you had to purchase food or something every 30-45 minutes. Sometimes, if there was some of us parked right in the front row, it would make us move to a back row so that some adult with a nice ride could park there instead. It was total !!!! You guys that live in NW Indy know what I'm talkng about when it comes to our cars. We went/go nuts on them!!! At the time I was a teen, if you couldn't 13's in the 1/4, you weren't anybody.

I gotta say, this post really brought back some great memories and my teens years!!!

Oh yeah, btw, I had a '73 T/A with a 455 SD, 4-speed, 4.11 gears, with a 175 shot os NOS. Needless to say that the gas gauge moves just as quickly as the tach!

Later,
Mike

No offense but what the hell are you doing in Rhode Island? Do you still cruise out there? LOL it would only take like 15 minutes to cruise around the entire state wouldn't it? Well anyhow, yeah Valpo has gotten that bad. It's pitiful. Cops follow ya around just waiting for you to make a wrong move and give them a reason to pull you over. Trust me they've followed me from K-Mart to Highway 30 and I took side streets, not Calumet to Lincolnway, I'm talkin a LOT of sidestreets, and this cop just kept following me, finally I got on to highway 30 heading eastbound and he turned into Al's Diner, or on that street anyways.

Thats awesome to hear about where people used to cruize in the mid 80's. I can't believe people hung out at BK in portage on central! The past few years the portage crowd hung out at autozone on central and talked **** to eachother all night. Eventually a race would be worked out, and we'd all parade out to US12 and watch (or race). Thanks to street car chaos, nobody hangs out at autozone anymore, they save their streetracing for the track, which I guess isn't such a bad thing. IMHO Portage's cops are even worse than Valpo's though.

I moved out here in 88. When I first moved out, I lived in Fall River, Ma (about 10 miles from Rhode Island. They have a cruise there. It's kind of like the cruise in Gary and Merrivile on Broadway (two lanes, each way) but a lot longer. BUT the cops there will NOT let you stop ANYWHERE. If you stop and hang out somewhere, they'll pull, ask for you license, take you're plate number and if you get caught stopping again, they'll take you in.

But let me tell ya, the cars out here are nothing compared to the cars back in NW Indy!! Out here it's all ricers!!! Once in a while you'll get a good street machine, but it's someone who's my age (damn, did I said that?!?!? ) and it's not like what you'd see at Blue Top.

Heck, when I used to hang out at Blue Top, almost every street machine that pulled in there on a Friday or Saturday night have either a dual quads on a tunnel ram, Hilborn fuel injection, or a 6-71 blower!!! It was awesome!!! In Mass, I don't think I've EVER seen a car on the road with a 6-71 lung sticking out of the hood.

Rhode Island......the 15 minute drive around state! Yup, that's the one. Rhode Island is basically the size of Lake, Porter and LaPorte countries put together. As far as cruises go.... no, nobody here really cruises (as far as I know). You might get the hang outs, but that's in Providence and it's like hanging out in Chicago. Just a bunch of ricers with loud stereo's and graphics.... yeah, that will make a car go faster!!!

Let me tell ya about the Valpo cops... you WILL laugh at this one! When I was a teen, there patrol cars where the Chrystler K-Cars!!! 4-cylinder engines! It was the funniest thing, seeing a K-car as a cop car! Back then, the cops weren't too bad. I actually got to know a lot of them (Valpo only had a population of around 25,000-30,000) and since there was only one High-School which was half the size it is now, the "regulars" on Lincoln Way (those of us that would cruise Valpo every single night of the week), all the cops knew on a first name friendly basis so it was kind of like this... We knew what we could do and couldn't do and as long as we kept the groups small, they (the cops) would mostly leave us alone. Heck, some of them would even pull in just to shoot the s#$! with us and see what else we've added to our cars. Those were usually the ones who grow up with our parents. And, if we happen to have that 'need' for a race, we would go out on 49 south of US 30, just across the train tracks on run it! Valpo couldn't touch us there and there wasn't that many county's around.

Yeah the "hang outs" people choose in Valpo these days is pitiful. I'm not kiddin but there's a ton of ricers that hang out at the frickin' CAR WASH across Calumet from Town & Country market. Every time I drive by and they're out there I pull in, tell them to get real cars, listen to what they have to say (usually a bunch of "f**k you"s) and drive away. Or if I don't feel like stopping I'll roll down my windows and shout "RICE BOYS!" and they all stand there lookin at me like a bunch of idiots as I drive by.

I pulled in there once, they're a bunch of ricers. The only f-body there was a 4th gen trans am like mine, but the dude was already ricing it out, it had a huge commando wing on it, LOL. You just don't put a huge wing on a T.A, it's hideous
I didn't know any of the people there but they all acted like they knew my car up and down. Nobody would race it b/c the idiot kids there told everyone it was "flying". First they tried to tell me I was spraying then all of a sudden I had a procharger....LOL I wish I popped the hood and nobody would look They KNEW I had a power adder geeeze, what a bunch of punks!

Ya know if those ricers put any bigger wings on their cars they'll need to contact the FAA to get their pilot licenses...

yeah i would have to agree that valpo cops do suck...but i never seem to have any problems with THEM...i have problems with other county cops!!!

in the past month i have gotten pulled over near morrocco (coming home from racing) for brights on (oops) got a warning, got pulled over in marshall county near plymouth for speeding 53 in a 35 and lake county for speeding 55 in a 45 (gay), failure to dim headlights again and driving left of center (which was not true)

but i have yet to be pulled over in porter county? lol!

those guys at the car wash here in valpo aren't all that bad guys...i hang out there a rare once and a while and not all of them are ricers...but yes there are a TON of ricers in valpo and do nothing to their cars but make it look fast...there's alot of stuck up domestic owners around here too don't get me wrong...i am friendly with everyone and i don't like to bash anyone's cars because to each of their own IMO

Don_3d... that's a SWEET GN you got there!!!! I always did love a full size car that was fast as heck!!! I used to own an 81 Regal. It orginally had the 265 CID Pontiac motor. Well, when that spun the #7 bearing, I dropped in a nicely WARMED '72 455 Poncho motor backed by a TH-400 and 3:73's in the rear. Then added the full Monty Carlo SS suspension to it. The only thing that made it look like it "had something" was the M/C SS exhaust (and the rumpy-rump sound from the cam) and the BF Goodrich rasied whites. Even kept the stock Buick Rally rims on.

That was all fun until the oil pump went while racing a Vette on the interstate doing about 110 mph. Oh well....

Like I said, I never had a problem with Valpo cops, well.... except one. But he was just one of those "by the book" guys. For me, it was Portage and Gary cops. One time I was cruising Broadway. I had just gotten my car back from the body shop (complete repaint, etc..). I'm heading North on Broadway, doing the posted speed, and this Gary cop pulls out behind me (WITHOUT his headlights on) and follows me for 3 blocks. Then, he turns on his headlights and the red bubbles and pulls me over. I'll never forget this guy, too. He walks up to the car, asks me for the normal license and reg. I hand it to him and ask him why he pulled me over. He said my license plate light was not lit. Give me a f#&%# break!!!! I said, "Yeah it is". He then tells me to get out of the car and he shows me. I'm looking at this (scratching my head as to why it's not lit) and he goes to his car to write me a ticket. I'm still looking at this and I notice that the masking tape was still on from when the car got painted. So I peel it off, show the cop, and he STILL gave me a freakin' ticket. Said I need to stay in my own city to cruise instead of come up here.

I took that one to court and the cop never showed up so it was dropped.

Oh well, just another of many stories!!! :lala:

Later,
Mike

Watch out for the cops in La Porte. I got pulled over about 3 weeks ago in my TRUCK for failure to signal a lane change. Got pulled over once in the Camaro, but luckly the cop was cool. He clocked me doing 47 in a 30 (I pulled it down into 1st about 3-4 seconds before I saw him). The funny part is I slid the car sideways coming out of parking lot about an hour before in front of the same cop. He told me to slow down.
I'd like to meet you guys from Portage and Valpo. Sounds like we could have alot of fun rippin on the Rice Burners. I have this Sunday off with nothing to do. Let me know if your interested.

You ever seen the guy from portage with a grand national that always drives around with a cowboy hat? He looks to be pretty old, maybe 60's and he always drives around with his nephew who is about 10. If you see him around, give him a rev or two, he's always up for a race "The word" on the street is it's a low 11 sec car. It seems like it would be a pretty good run with you.

Yes sireee

We do need to close that deal. The cops got me restricted a little with my license being suspended(stupid parking tixs) and all. I'm working on that this month. Also you got pm concerning the motor swap for the Niterider. Hit me back.

you know i have seen you before...was your car always at that pool place right by portage high school??? orange trans am? i love that car...very cool looking don't know if you have seen my GN...i haven't been in portage in like a year...i had a friend that lived there for a while but he moved so i stopped coming up there...

yeah i've seen that guy before...that guy i believe has a 60 series turbo and big slicks...my car runs two different modes unlike his car most likely...i have a street mode and full race mode...my street mode consists of 104 unleaded gas with a 93 street chip with 22 lbs of boost and 20 degrees of timing and i run regular BIG street radials in the back (big but i still spin um) then theres my full race mode where i throw in some 118 leaded...108 race chip...bolt on my own slicks...and crank the boost to 26-28 lbs :hail: boost

there's alot of nice garage queens in my neck of the woods that would hand me my butt...i give props to all car guys around here because they are hard to find
