emission time
emission time
i need help with my emissions. what can i do to get around emissions seeing that my car will probably not pass. i called my insurance company to see if i can get show car insurance but they wont do it because it isnt 25 years old. is there any insurance company that will insure my car as a show car or a race car? also, isnt there something like having the car registered as a pleasure vehicle or a recreational vehicle? i need help though because they want to suspend my license plates.

My maro is an 82 and I have it registered as a show car thru Allstate. Once you have the proof of insurance all you need to do is send in a copy, along with the application to the emissions division. I'd recommend doing this before you have the car tested. That was suggested to me by the people working at the testing facility. That way the car doesn't get into the system.

You can open a P.O. box in a county where Emissions aren't required. I did it to both of my cars except I registered them to my grandpa's in White County.

is this your only form of transportation....?
anyways you can see how bad you're going to fail first and see what happens. i really don't know...mine's show car / race car insured.

ok last time i'm saying this....so listen well.....
anything over 20 years is considered a "classic", 25years is an "antique". For State Farm over 15 years is considered eligible for show car/exhibition car....ONLY if you have more than one vehicle insured with them and you do not drive this vehicle everyday. Therefore, you can not insure anything that is daily driven as a show car. I am limited in mileage to under 1000 miles a year....i'll be lucky if i put 100-150 miles on it in a year, if it's driven at all. But you can not cheat the system since you get in an accident when it's snowing 4 inches and you should be driving your "daily driver" not your "show car" they will not cover your butt. Any questions let me know.

Can someone expand on registering the car in a different area like that? Do you have to establish something like residency or what in that area?

yes the only thing that you need to have is an address so that they have some sort of proof..but i dont even remember the address to where i had my car registered.. you only need to have it when you 1st get the plates..after the first time you can renew them at any branch..i got my plates renewed at the crown point branch and they never asked me anything about the address
