Most rebuilds are about $1,000 no matter where you go. If you can afford that then there are a few places you can go to get it done. Just DON'T go to AAMCO for your rebuild.
There is a place out in Mudelein that does really nice work, called Jimmy's. Our moderator, 3.8TransAm, swears by them.
If you are mechanically inclined you can spend about $15 for the ATSG, and about $180 for a rebuild kit and attempt it yourself. But then again, if you mess it up you are in trouble.

I have a 700r4 i am selling. Here is the story behind it.
Had just completed my motor swap, noticed the trans was flaring up between shifts, also had weak shifts. After multiple adjustments of the T.V. cable, i checked the fluid level to find none on the dipstick.
So i added fluid just to see it hit the ground below the car. So i assumed it was full and coming out of the over fill tube.
So i buy a used transmission, only to find out that my dipstick tube was split down the middle, not allowing any more fluid to be added to the trans. So i have no idea if the low fluid level was causing the sloppy shifts under hard driving. Driving around town normally, the trans acted fine.
Long story short, this could be a good trans that was just low on fluid. I already have it out, and have decided to go ahead with the new one i bought.
Let me know if you are interested, like i said, It could work forever, or it could be dying. But all the gears work, only when you get on the gas hard does it shift sloppy, but that could possibly be from low line pressure from the low fluid.
I will let it go cheap.

if you have the trans out of the car I can rebuild them. All you need is the rebuild kit.

all you did was blow out the 3-4 clutch pack... the 700R4 trans blows this clutch back out all the time. i did a rebuilt for my buddy for $250 and that was also with the hardend sun shell, 9 clutch 3-4 clutch pack (upgraded from 6 clutch disc) a 13 vane pump and mods done to the vavle body

13 vane pumps are over rated. Dana of Probuilt actually uses 10 vane pumps in most of his work from what I've read.
I know the reasoning behind having a 13 vane unit, but apparently its not always worth the price. Though its only about a $50 difference.

Sweet, what package did you go with?
Fully done with stall? If i were to pay him I'd probably want a 9.5" vig stall too. Less rotating mass from the smaller converter = faster acceloration too. ^_^

A 5500 stall? Are you planning on revving to 8k?
