Power out of this??....

ok so thanks to steve i went with his advice and ran a carb....my plans are a 388 using older style world S/R torquer heads (the size will support the motor), a holley 650 dp, edlebrok performer rpm air gap intake manifold, hedman long tubes, into a 2.5" true dual, i got posi w/3.73 gears in back and am planning on running a 2,500-3,000 stall. im also using a larger sized roller cam i cant think of the numbers offhand. i'm wondering about how much power i should be making and more so can i smoke them dam mustangs yet lol.

also do you guys think thats a good setup? it all started out as a 305....its comin along ill post some pics when i get moving on the project......proll gonna pull the ac and put my delete box on soon while im waiting

BTW thanks steve for all your help and patience with my many many many irritating ?'s and tj for answering a few things to.

Re: Power out of this??....

with that motor you might want to put in a bigger walbro 255 pump in the tank if you don't have it already, depends on how fuel hungry that engine will be.

When you are done take it to the track and then you can get a better estimate of your power from there.

Re: Power out of this??....

My guess is 300-350RWHP. Old technology heads and no cam numbers make it hard to guess.

What happened to the 350? Did you ever get it running with the carb?

My motor, trans, clutch, and driveshaft are in. I just have to wire it up and finish plumbing it from the firewall fitting to the regulator and fuel rail. There's a bunch of little stuff left too, but I'm knocking it out as I go.

Re: Power out of this??....

nice...yeah this was the 355 i got tired of it decided to build it up again...we know a guy with a machine shop he lets us use all his goodies for free....the heads are actually really nice heads ill have to pull the numbers off them and the cam as well ill let you know what i find out.....and no i don't got the carb on yet im waiting for my parts to get in i am ordering Monday...should be in Tuesday and ill be starting to put it back together and getting everything back in the car...im hopping it will be more HP than that....if not you know what that means....new heads : )....but im gonna knock out the bodywork and paint first tho b4 i do that.....anyone know any good place besides jays?.....

gratz on getting all that crap hooked up it looked a little "skinny" with nothing but a seat in it.....i know you were trying to save weight and all, but cutting out the floor pan and using the "Flintstones technique at 2 ft lb's of tq" only gets you so far nape lol....

Haha, the floor pan is still intact but that's about it. It ought to weigh under 2900lbs with me and fuel this year. No lexan or fiberglass other then the hood.

Re: Power out of this??....

Rear coilovers won't fit on a car lowered this much unless you run small body shocks. 2.25" springs might fit but it'll be really close.

Right now:

-PHB is lowered with Unbalanced Engineering PHB relocation brackets.
-LCA geometry was fixed with Spohn relocation brackets
-Rear springs have been switched to 2.5" x 8" free length coils with a new upper spring pocket
-Koni 5" travel 30-series circle track shocks mounted inverted for less unsprung weight.
-No stock rear bump stops. The rearend will hit the frame before it fully compresses the bump stops on the shocks. Good for almost 2" more compression travel.

350lb/in springs and a 24mm rear bar ought to put me in the ball park for this setup, but we'll see in two weeks. I scored a deal on some front weight jacks so those will be going in when the springs get here from Coleman. 1100lb/in fronts with a 36mm bar

Time to get my Koni struts shortened and some taller ball joints for the front so I can really slam this thing
