New speeding laws as of the first of the year
For the Illinois guys that might not be aware
Since it is about that time and I was talking with someone today about this subject ........I am as guilty as anyone of having that moment of goofing off and blasting through a couple of gears and can get into these ranges very quick........ please pay extra attention to your surroundings for many reasons but this is a new change to be even more carefull about:
A ticket for going 30 mph over the speed limit is a Class B misdemeanor, which has a penalty of up to six months jail and $1,500.00 fine
Speeding 40 mph or more over the limit was already a Class A misdemeanor. See 625 ILCS 5/11-601.5. All such offenses carry a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of $2,500.00.
To go along with this there is no getting out of these tickets with court supervision.....if you get one and it sticks you are in for the full monte.
625 ILCS 5/11‑601.5)
Sec. 11‑601.5. Driving 30 miles per hour or more in excess of applicable limit.
(a) A person who drives a vehicle upon any highway of this State at a speed that is 30 miles per hour or more but less than 40 miles per hour in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit established under this Chapter or a local ordinance commits a Class B misdemeanor.
(b) A person who drives a vehicle upon any highway of this State at a speed that is 40 miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit established under this Chapter or a local ordinance commits a Class A misdemeanor.

Will have to be more careful now. Though I usually am. But the car is gaining about 130hp or so if i'm lucky so these ranges will come even faster now.

not quite true. yes the law says that but unless youve run somebody over i doubt youll ever do time for a speeder especially in cook county. theres always the plea deal down to to normal speeding charge which is a petty offense with fine.its done all the time. besides 40 or more over? the speed limits are 55 or 65 now, that 95 to 105 mph....come on.most guys running racing fuels or 93 octane. racing fuel 8-9 a gallon, even premium pushing 4 a gallon. no need to burn gas on the e ways. save it for the strip of asphalt. even on a local road of 25 mph youd have to be at 55-65 mph before the charges kicked in. i sure hop enobdy running e-way speeds down a residential street. that guy might deserve time.

After the heads and cam 100mph is going to feel like its only just starting to play.
I can roll on from 60mph and get to 100 no problem.

You apparently have forgotten how EASY it is to reach 30mph - 40mph over 55mph speed limit with a good running V8. My LT1 will get there a hair faster than a stock LS1, and a modded LS1 will get there a WHOLE lot faster.

It's more or less always been like that pretty much everywhere.
Once u hit the magic 30 over mark the officer has always been able to make it a ticket for wreckless driving at their discretion.
Most don't unless your a douche and give them grief when u know u did it.
Just sucks they make it official now however.
Still I'm sorry, but I do not even begin to compare 30 over to to the same fines and the like u get for a DUI, that part is a joke

Re: New speeding laws as of the first of the year
The new code doesnt allow any type of reduction of the ticket once it has been written so on pleading it down, aint going to happen.........and 30 over while passing on a two lane is very easy to do...... I for one can get to 30 over banging a gear screwing around without even thinking about it. I agree jail time is unlikely but with as broke as the citys, countys and state is you can bet they will be enforcing full fines.

Re: New speeding laws as of the first of the year
Heh we logged about 1500mi round trip on the Power Tour last year and probably close to 4000mi total on the Power Tours total since 04. I usally only trailered it if there was not room for the whole family (both my oldest are on their own now so thats not a problem anymore) or if I was having my back issues flairing up.
Of course I can get 22mph on the highway with it, I am figuring yours might be a tad less than that lol.
