Too much money for this car?

Firebird convertable, looks clean. But just a Firebird with a TBI engine, but it also has 124k on the clock.

Props to the guy for taking care of it, but I can't see a $7500 price tag. Mileage too high and not enough options.

Re: Too much money for this car?

I saw that on Jalopinik, too...many noted that while it's got a 350 in it (100 miles since rebuild), the 350 isn't original to the car (a 305 was), and the seller claims theres a TBI under the chrome open element air cleaner.

It's an awfully clean car, but in my way of thinking, it's probably priced a bit high--but it is very pretty.

I concur. 7500 is a tad high, especially given the season. 6000, maybe 6500 in early spring.

Re: Too much money for this car?

If the AC works, it's genuinely rust-free (not Iowa "rust-free",) the engine has a build sheet of sorts (so you're not buying a TBI truck 350 or other undesirable) and not too much looks hacked, I could see that amount.

That said, take off points for:
15" wheels instead of 16" (I'm not saying 16s were even an option, and frankly, they both suck for tire availability this year. But 16s are an upgrade no matter how you sipe it.)
An original top that's not going to live forever
Nothing special, option-wise except color & convertible.

And if you were going to drive it, things start wearing out at that kind of mileage / age.
If you bought it and kept it up, it could stay a very nice car.

Nicely kept-up, no question.

I'm guessing he installed an L05 from the picture of the engine bay. Which is really no better than an L03 other than having the advantage of displacement. The cam/heads are equal.

If he stuffed a L31 under the hood then it would look identical to stock, but make significantly more power than stock.

Re: Too much money for this car?

Eh, you can find L98 cars for that money with less miles in very good shape. I'm not a convertible guy so that doesn't add a premium for me.

Re: Too much money for this car?

Convertible gets u a little extra $$$$.

91-92 convertible gets u a little extra dollars.

I'm going with truckerz from above, 7500$ is high for what it is.

If everything is clean, engine swap included and rust free, I can see 6-6500$ to the right person.

Aftermarket exhaust... may be good or bad.
No AIR on the exhaust = won't pass emissions/visual... if that is important for your locale.

Re: Too much money for this car?

I think $7500 is too much to pay but I think he is right for putting $7500 price on it. I haven't sold (nor have I ever tried to buy) much of anything for the asking price. Unless its a heck of a deal or there is a line waiting to see it that is. He probably knows it's worth a little less and is hoping to get $5500-6500.
