Thirdgen Fest '09 info

Thirdgen Fest is held every Memorial Day weekend in Crete, IL (about 40 minutes south of Chicago). This year it is Friday and Saturday, May 22nd and 23rd. (It will be pushed back to Sunday or Monday in the event of rain.) This is our eighth year and the event continues to get bigger and better every year. We normally have at least 70 cars and hope to have a better turnout this year.

Here what's planned for this year:

Friday, May 22nd 7:00 pm --- Friday night party

Friday night is the party night. The Friday night party is basically just your average summer party. We will have a bonfire, keg (21 & over), pop, chips, etc. We will also have bean bag boards and other things to do. The party isn't really about the cars, it just gives people a chance to hang around and talk with other people who love thirdgens.

Saturday, May 23rd Noon --- Thirdgen Fest '09

Saturday is the actual event day. The first 100 cars registered will receive a goodie bag with a Thirdgen Fest '09 keychain and other items. We provide all you can eat food and drink all day. (No alcohol is provided on Saturday.) Each car attending is assigned a number and you will get a car information sheet to display will your car.

Trophies are awarded in nine categories:

Best Camaro: Stock
Best Camaro: Modified
Best Firebird: Stock
Best Firebird: Modified
Best Paint
Best Interior
Best Engine
Best Restoration
Best of Show

The stock and modified classes have trophies awarded for first through third place. The other five classes are first place only. Winners are chosen through participant voting. Each registration packet includes a ballot for the owner to vote for the car they feel is best in each category.

We also have a raffle at the end of the day. We haven't decided on prizes yet for this year but it will probably be multiple smaller prizes like the last couple years instead of one large prize. Each registration packet includes one raffle ticket and additional tickets are available.

The day will end with a car cruise to one of the local cruise spots.

Registration packets for Thirdgen Fest '09 go on sale April 1st and are available through the day of the event. The early registration price is $35 per car and is available April 1st - May 15th. The cost increases to $45 per car if you register May16th through the day of the event so it pays to register early. Your registration fee gets in into both days. Remember the fee is PER CAR, it doesn't matter how many people you have in your car. The registration packets also include a map and directions as well as motel/campground information for people coming from out of town.

This is an '82-'92 Camaro/Firebird only event. All other cars will be parked in a separate area. You can still attend without bringing a thirdgen, however, the same registration fees apply.

Thirdgen Fest is the biggest and longest running Thirdgen event in the world. This is a great event and continues to get better every year!!!

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

I had a race last year, and the one that they want me to run at the grove I am blowing off this year... I don't forsee why I can not attend... I'll either roll the 84 Z stocker I have, or push my luck and roll in the 88 Orange car...

I won't turn 21 til a few months after TGF, and I was wondering how many people under 21 will be at the Friday night party. I am just asking because I am going to respect LFN AT U's request and sip on Sprites and Pepsis all night and was curious how many others will be there to join me?

Heehee! I've been trying to talk my friend who just bought an 89 350 Formula
to cruise down with me this year...(It's in great shape 60,000 KMH)

My new carb should be on way before then, I will check my limit on Canadian beer, and I promise not to bug Denny or anyone else about doors this year!
(You guys really came through for me last year - many thanks again)

I hope Kevin makes it too, he's hilarious! If anyone wants some prints of pics or discs of the Thirdgen videos, let me know! Lookin forward to the Friday night Party, and will be partying all day Sat! Maybe I'll get my friend
to bring a guitar, bring mine and do a Camaro/Firebird/Thirdgen song...?!!

Hey I drove my Jamaica Yellow TA from LA to Chicago this past January, 2100 miles, nothing like a road trip in an F-Body!

I was going to go last year but family stuff came up. I'm really hoping I'll be there this year!

I'll be turning 18 in a couple days (23) so I'll be drinking soda as well...

I'm sure my car will be in the modded group, but what is the cut off for the stock class? Any one item not original?

Re: Thirdgen Fest '09 info

I've never been to this event, but I would think that as long as it runs and can drive it would be welcome. Depending on how far along you are, others may be able to give you suggestions on what to do with the car.

My car isn't a trailer queen by a long shot because of all the chips in the paint, little dents, and the scuff marks from hitting the ocasional cone, but I'm still proud of it and the state it is in right now. If they make me park away from the group, that just means less door dings to worry about.

In order to be placed in the "stock" classes your car must have stock body panels and wheels and be painted a factory color. Some minor engine, suspension, and interior changes are allowed.

All my body panels and paint is OEM... they just aren't in as good of shape as when my car rolled off the assembly line. . I still have the original wheels as well, and the only thing not stock in my interior is the seats (Corbeau Forza seats), but I have the eoriginals stored away and they are in perfect condition. The only engine change I made was a airfoil, and drivetrain mods consist of swapping my 10-bolt to a 9-bolt. The only suspension components still stock on my car are the A-arms and K-member. My front brakes will also be upgraded to the LS1 setup in a couple weeks. I might also have a harness bar in my car by the time TGF takes place, but I'm still doing stress analysis testing so who knows...

Based on all that, my car will be in the modded category, right?

The suspension and brake parts won't affect anything but your interior will probably get you into modified but I'm not sure. We just give the car a quick look when you roll in and decide what class you're in. We don't do any digging around or anything like that. There's too many cars coming in to spend any time for a close inspection.

Re: Thirdgen Fest '09 info

Hey all, OK I'm gonna make the trip from Canada again this year...Denny can you send
me a PayPal thing for paying up front? If there's anyone who wants a copy of the TGF
videos and pics, (2007 & 2008) let me know! My email address is:

nealhumby@rogers.com.

I have another 85 Camaro model for auction, everybody should look thru their old parts and collectables to help raise some money!

By the way, I've been writing a silly firebird/camaro song and thought I'd bring my
guitar for Fri nite...anybody else play and/or sing??

and another Q: Is Brandon and Ashley coming again?

That's a good point... my car is pretty low as well. Do I really have to worry about this, or was it just a joke between the two of you? For driveways with a big curb I always have to go in at a really crazy angle just so I don't rub on anything.

Just a completely new interior, some more shiney stuff underneath, valve springs. I fabbed up an intake tube setup but I still haven't found anyone with the stones to tig me up one in stainless.
