Fear not however, it's is home in one piece now. The ECM picked a rather foul time to cash in it's chips. On another note AAA ROCKS! :hail:

FWIW,

You can grab a spare ECM usually for $50 via EBay or the junkyard. I keep a spare one in the back of my car. Of course, now that I said that .... my alternator is going to 'go' and I don't have a spare one of those in the car

Glad ya got home safe! Now turn over that hood

Tim

Cool beans Tim, I should have it put back together soon. At least with an alt failure the car does not just stop cold turkey on you.

Yep, did I mention that the hoods for sale, and it also comes with the car attached to it?

Oh NO my favorite thirdgen of the meet broke down

That sucks. Least you werent very far away.

Oh yeah...remember when you said "oh 89 octane will be fine"

hehe it wasnt. Car jumped time somehow...I had 18 degrees advance without the vaccum advance. I had detonation the entire 6 hour drive.

I got the timing back down again. I hope its still ok.

Good luck fixing the car man. Ill give you $50 as is for it.

Well, I should've gone. I was sort of afraid to, I haven't driven more than about a 50 mile round trip since the 355 went in. Since I didn't drive down to MD, I felt I needed to go for a drive yesterday anyway, so I took the car for just a long drive. I ended up going nowhere, and clocking about 150 miles. It felt good to go for a nice drive like that, and also nice to see that out on the road it will get more than 12 MPG! I actually got about 18, and the last 50 miles was playing around in town here, about 10 MPG doing that!

Almost !!!!

I managed to avoid the Wrecker,......... One stopped to get the tow job - but I sent him on his way.

My Ride was pulled off the side of the highway for about 45 minutes to allow it to cool down. The Temp Spiked due to the Horrible New York City traffic and the radiadiator bottle was bubbling away for awhile.

I managed to get thru New York by shutting off the Car (while in traffic) after every pitiful 100 foot advance in the traffic line. The whole time the Temp guage was showing 220 and the warning Light was blinking away !!

** The 'Hayden' electric fan relay kit SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the longest 5-6 miles I can ever remember driving !

I was worried for a while, I went home by myself, got to the PA. state line and developed a spooky sounding intermittent vibration. Then it turned into an exhaust leak, and I knew. Stopped and checked the pass. side Y-pipe bolts, sure enough one backed out about 4 turns. Mine was easy to fix.

If you sold that car Id drive up there and buy it. I love that blue IROC. Like I said at the meet your car is what my wet dreams are about lol.

It could use a gauge cluster tho.

Hey ES87 you should get the wiring under your hood together that could be causing the computer to take a dump once in awhile. It looked like some of the wires were getting hot.

Right on man. I rewired that mess with 12ga ecm feed. No go still though, and tried another ECM today, too. I can hear the pump running when the key is on. I am running out of ideas.

*cough* TMI! *cough*

The guage cluster is almost done, it's an autometer phantom setup. I really tried like mad to have it done before the show but ran out of time. It would be closer to done now, but I am trying to figure out what is causing the no start issue.

You have a small cap style distributor right? I happen to have one with the ignition module and everything out of a running car. Let me know If you want to try it?

Yep, sounds great! I just pulled mine out, and the p/u coil looks kinda buggered up. I really hope that's what the issue is, I am running out of ideas!

Glad to know you got it home OK. I just got back today, it was a little sunnier today...I have a nice sunburned "seatbelt track" down my chest from the drive...I look like a crossing guard. My car gave me no problems and 24.5 MPG from Fredericksburg, VA all the way home.

Huston, we have ignition! The $5 pickup coil was the problem. Turns out when I adjusted timing at the track I didn't tighten back down the distributor hold down and oil got all over the p/u coil. It was old anyways, so it finally quit. From now on I am carrying a spare distributor, coil, and ECM in the car.

So, when rebuilding the distributor, do the -whole- thing! (The p/u coil is no fun to get apart)

I wish mine was blue

OooO BTW whats that cluster gonna look like? Im gonna try to make a new face and put white face autometer guages in it also.

ALSO how much did those 91-92 gfx run ya?
Thanks man. It's a cervini's cowl hood, you can check it out over at www.cervinis.com. I do have a spare -factory- 91/92 Z28 spoiler that I am looking to sell. (Not one of the crappy repops) Lemme know if you are interested in it. Here's the "cluster" as of today, I am still working on finding a suitable material to make the gauge plate out of.

The 91/92 gfx kinda vary, depending on condition. I have seen whole sets go for $250-550. If you are looking to put a little time into repairing a setup, I have seen them go for $125-200ish kinda beat up. Just have to keep your eyes peeled.

Hey erik...do you get summit magazines? They have a gauge plate for sale in there for 82-89 camaros. It holds 6 gauges...2 3 3/8s and 4 2 1/16 gauges. Probably exactly what you need. It runs 104$ tho.

But it probably has good places to mount the gauges in and everything. When I sell my 145 IROC cluster im gonna get the plate to see if its any good.

No kidding!?! That would be -perfect- for what I am doing. A little more scratch then I was figuring on though. Hmm....

Erik...get back to me about the wing.

Yeah no kidding I saw that in the newest summit and was happy. Because its hard to track down a sheet of ABS plastic for some reason.

I may just get it and see what it is. Because im sure it would look, function, and fit better than anything I could make. I can rig as well as the next guy but it isnt always pretty

I made a panel for a '98 Camaro that we had at the shop out of a piece of sheet metal. Mounted the gauges in it and painted the panel flat black. Looked pretty factory. May be a little harder since the thirdgen panel is a bit bigger.
