I'm close enough that if you'd yeild a bit and move it west 400 miles I could make it, but instead.... Allow me to wrap up the sentiments of everyone on this side of the mississippi:

Please tell me if I'm wasting my time in even hoping that you will move it further out west.

Its been said before but I'll point it out again...Mark is planning this so it has to be close to him, planning a meet 400 miles away would be next to impossible. I don't see why so many people are upset with him about this, if everyone wants a meet closer to them then go plan a meet. But as for national, it means everyone is welcome which they are. I hope this new place works out for you Mark.

trying to plan huge event 400-500 miles away is impossible, i agree. if being at the nationals is as important to you as it sounds, i'm sure you'll find a way to be there. other wise plan a meet near to you. this is all very easy for me to say considering i live 30 seconds from Stingraye but, i would be willing to travel 7-8 hours and make a weekend out of it.

Name a car gathering that everyone isn't welcome to. I have never heard of a Thirdgen gathering where people aren't welcome.

As far planning it 400-500 miles away, WHO SAID MARK HAS TO PLAN IT! He also seems to be really against having it at Dennys, a seperate date then Thirdgenfest, aka Memorial Day, like sometime later in the year.

Ya know, you people are ridiculous!

There is NO location that everyone can get to. Should we not have a meet then?

Want some cheese with that whine?

...as for who said Mark had to plan it...how about...MARK!!!! IT'S HIS EVENT!!!!

How the heck is it HIS event? It is a gathering. Just like the name isn't His Name. Thirdgen National Gathering... that is a description, not a name. Thirdgenfest may be a name.

When it is a national gathering it isn't supposed to be in the freakin corner of the US. I have no desire to move it to WA, CA, AZ, FL, NY, or anything. It needs to be moved West to become a true National Gathering, not a East Coast "National" Gathering.

Well since Mark is planning this I'd say it's his event. He's taking time out of his life to organize something everyone can enjoy. If its really that big of a deal to you than plan a big meet farther west. Mark is the one who stepped up to plan it so let him plan it. You'd think people would show a little appreciation rather than complain all the time.

description: A thirdgen national gathering
Name: Thirdgen Nationals

The thing is this. When Mark decided to step up, I'm sure he just figured it would be cool to name the event "Nationals". We all know that "Nationals" has always been a automotive/race type of name. I don't think it's fair to give him a hard time about the name. Who cares what the name is....it's about having fun.

...and think about this. If we did have an event designed to get the most possible thirdgens, where would it be? OK, figure 3 regions, east, west and central. Like it or not, fact is MOST of us won't travel out of our region. Sure, some will, but not most. That said, which has the largest following? I'd put my money on the eastcoast, maybe the west, but certainly not central. That means it makes sense to have it on either the east or west. If Mark lived out west, I'm sure it'd be there, but he doesn't.

....and since we already have a central gathering at Thirdgenfest....

I guess I don't see what all the negativity is about.

Hey Deep Creek is close to where I am. I would'nt have to take off from work (Navy) and could meet some of the other members of this board, and maybe get some of the folks from the local board here (www.hr3rdgen.org) to caravan out with me.

Thats exactly what I'm arguing for here. I understand its a logistical nightmare for Mark to plan an event a full days drive from his daily life, but to get the most people here, he should at least get it a little more centrailized. I'm guessing a lot of people are willing to drive a full day to and from the event. This makes it a 3 day excursion for most, and to me thats acceptable for this trip.

On the other side if the drive is a full day and half to two days driving, your asking a lot of people to go THAT far. Your talking about making a three day trip into 5 day vacation. It'll hit me hard to take that extra two days off work, much less the extra two nights in a hotel room, and an extra $50+ in gas. I like the idea of making this being a national gathering, but try to get as many people as possible.

I think everyone has an opinion, and I agree with some of you. I just think it's too bad that people are complaining about it. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, but unless you're willing to put in the time and effort, NONE of us should complain about anything Mark is doing.

Mark's not asking any of us to do anything we don't want. If we chose to go, great. If not, that's our choice too. I can almost guarantee that NONE of us will log as many driving hours to TGN 04 as Mark will have planning hours, think about that for a minute.

Heck, I wish it was closer to me too, but I just feel fortunate Mark planned it, and it's only about 4 or 5 hours away. If He moved it an hour close to me, it'd be an hour farther from the Northern guys.

I think Mark's gone SO far above what the rest of us have done, and we should cut him some slack if some things aren't perfect. That's all I'm saying.

Man a 13 hour drive, 807.5 miles, i'm there. My car can make that easily, my car is in great shape, 125k miles, i'm gonna replace the engine soon anyways so no need to worry about them much. I'm not gonan be doing that drive alone thats for sure, gonan bring a friend, maybe my girlfirend or my friend andrew. Most likely she'll be coming with me. Everyone will be very surprised to see one very specific detail about her that i dont wanna disclose.

But yeah 13 hours is nothing, man, i better bring a couple g's just in case shouldn't i? About how much would you recommend? I dont havea bank accound, i dont havea credit card. My mom mgith lend me her card for emergencies only but thats it. I'll be there though.

Tulsa Raceway Park

Why not in between the East coast and the west coast.....Tulsa's International Raceway was just purchased and getting a new facelift with fresh concrete for the 1st 600 ft, a new 2.3 mile road coarse / with a bank....It's new name is Tulsa Raceway Park. IHRA has already agreed to have the ''5 Nationals there.....

Why not in tulsa?? because it's 19 hours from the east coast, so how could a person that lives on the east coast (mark) possibly organize something that is 19 hours away from him. He couldn't. He won't. Mark is setting up thirdgen nationals. If everyone keeps on bitching about it, then not only will there not be a meet on the west coast, or in the middle, but there won't be one in the east coast either. Thirdgen nationals is GOING TO BE on the east coast. It is the only possible way that mark can organize it. Do you really think you could organize a meet that was 19 hours away from where u lived?? If you think the meet should be in tulsa, then set up a meet in tulsa u'rself, and then everyone can quit bitchin that there's no meets in the middle of the country. But as far as thirdgen nationals is concerned, it's going to be on the east coast, and it will likely be in MD again for mark's sake. If you have that big of a problem with it, then either set up your own meet (and find out how much work mark does for all of us), or just don't freakin go. But for pete's sake quit bitching about it everyone.

I dont see what all the fuss is about. Im just happy there is a national meet...period. How many thirdgens do i see around here? none... Thats enough justification for me to take 3days of vaccation for a hobby that takes up about 365days of my time a year anyway.

Besides, why did we buy thirdgens in the first place? TO DRIVE THEM!!!

Now when I hit the lotto and have millions of dollars to spend, Ill give everyone here gas money to get there. Until then, shut up and drive

Mark is doing this as a favor to us, you could at least have some appriciation for him

Here is the webite for Deep Creek Park. I think it would nice to have the show there if possible, it would save time driving for those that choose to camp. Cabins are available for $50/nite.

Pray for no rain this year. My car still leaks.

Sounds cool mark.. i think i can make MD again. probably about a 5-6 hour haul.

i'll be sure to bring the tool box this year again!

As far as tulsa... nice area... but a bit too far for my blood.

I drove out to Norman OK back in the summer of 99 in my now race car. One trip in a tweaked HP car of 1700miles a side was enought for me in mid summer.

was it a blast and a lifetime memory... oh yeah. would i drive 1700miles for a 3 day layoff of racing and standing in blistering sun, to drive home 3 days again.. not by a longshot.

If anyone went to the meet last year and saw all that Mark did and setup you would be in awe, This guy did SOO much stuff to make this thing come into play its not even funny, I honor Mark for all his hard work. I would drive a few states just to go again. I have never been so proud to own a thirdgen, YAY for Mark!

Hey Mark if you are reading this or if you see this I want you to know, man if you need help then let me know. I live in Tennessee and I have nothing better to do with my time. I know its crazy. I know to others this may seem like I am sucking up but I have organized big things like this before and it is no peice of cake. Everyone wanting it to be here and others there and I do understand when they say that it is more of an east coast gathering but even to find a place that is on the other side of the Mssissippi or on the Mississsippi wouldn't be to hard. I have never been to the nationals before and I would really like to go this year. Also I would like to become involved in helping you with it as well. I know where I am from there isn't many great, or large places for the nationals to be. Here we just have the Knoxville Dragway and I don't think it could hold a nation of thirdgens
And the track isn't so great but they do handle everything like pros here. If you need any help or want to talk about it to see any other places let me know in an e-mail.:yourock:

just like last year

Hey alls~

Altough it probably won't be of any help to anyone seeing as I'm 3 hours EAST of Deep Creek (Clopper Road, Gaithersburg), like last year, I am offering my apartment as free lodging and lack of cooking skills as dinner for anyone who can't afford a hotel, or if you would simply like to forego the expense. We can caravan out the day of the event obviously.

Also, there's a really cheap hotel almost next door to me, it's on Quince Orchard Boulevard w/ a sign out front 24/7 that says $49.99 as another option.

But the offer's out there if I'm on your way!

And keep your chins up all you westerners, the location's closer to you this year than last year lol

deep creek is an awsome place.. been there to much partying in the past since it in only like 2 hrs from me hear near hagerstown, md... though another place is in hagerstown.. there is a dragstrip there.. easy access, and hotels are pretty cheap.. but again deep creek is just a great place and there are cabins there and if i am not mistaken there is camping areas too..

I'll do my best to make it this year Mark. I really wanted to go last year so I'm hoping I can get the the time off and the car reliable enough to make the trip and back.

I have no comment about the bickering other than plan it as you see fit.

Haven't heard any updates yet, starting to get worried.
Any news Mark?

Anyone coming from South central PA? I'm near Johnstown and Somerset. Can't wait
