camaro wheel hops like a motha****a! any solutions besides "buy a posi!" I'm poor :)

Don't have enough money for a posi, but I'd like to fix this wheel hop before I end up getting the spider gears welded together by my exhaust shop buddy, I'd really like to avoid that and have at least ONE of my cars be somewhat NORMAL! Ok heres' the setup: 350 (305 heads, ported, cammed, headers, RPM intake, edl. carb, ect..) TH350 tranny, 10inch 3,200 stall converter, 3.42 gears, rear sway bar added from another thirdgen, and "custom" torque arm mount.........torque arm is mounted to the tranny crossmember with a body mount piece of rubber and a 6inch length of angle iron (hard to picture but trust me its OK and works similar to stock). My friends firebird has the same exact torque arm setup and his car never wheel hops.............whats the problem here? I've heard of people using air bags when stuck with a peg leg rear..........I was thinking about trying that. I know I can get this car to hook at least decently with a one legger.........we had my friends firebird pulling 2.0 60ft's with a peg leg rearend and somewhat soft tires.

Bad shocks can cause wheel hop. Have you addressed your control arms and track bar? Sounds like your trying to put some serious power down to the ground pretty quick. That'll overwork the stock suspension easily. A good set of 50/50 shocks will probably do the trick. A posi won't help out anything. It would probably make it worse. An air bag would definately help.

See Chris, you stuck all your money in engine, I stuck all mine into rear suspension. At least I get my power to the ground.

I know this works on trucks. If you slip the clutch a little off the line it drives nicer. When I just dump it the wheels hop like a b!tch. When I just let it out quickly, but not all at once it burns the first 8 feet and then we're off.

Yeah, I saw that the first time, then I went back and read his sig. Oh well, same thing applies. Don't launch it so hard right now.

BTW, good work finding a chick that will drive a car like that. Most of them I know would complain about the noise and that it road rough. Hell, I couldn't get any of my X's back in the car after a little comparative driving with some other motorists. That's ok though, we just burned her gas then.

Hey, my girlfriend is the one that urged me to do all this crap to her car cuz whenever we drove around in my firebird I'd talk about how nice it was to drive a REAL car and not a slug and she would get all pissed, then told me to make her's faster She even knows how to do a brake stand, race people shifting at 5,900 rpms and "pipe" people to get a race Thats my girl

I'll try that idea about the shocks, I hadn't even thought about that, its probably got factory shocks in there. Where can I get "50/50" shocks around town..........Synpasis..know of anyplace?

Yeah, but I'll bet money even if I race you from a stop I'll have enough brute power to catch up and fly by after a few seconds of spinning the tires That 10 inch converter does WONDERS for low speed acceleration as long as I don't light the tires up too bad

You probably need a set of new lower control arms. I just installed new ones on mine along with relocation brackets. Wheel hop is now a thing of the past.

An air Bag will really help. We had a Regal with a healthy
355 and nitrous that would wheel hop BAD! if we engaged the NOS out of the hole.

My friend and I went halfs on a air lift air bag set and
put one on the right side of each car.

Well the Regal leaves the line like greased lighting
now LOL and no wheel hop.

The bag helped my peg leg f-bird too. But ya have to do two burn outs to get both tires hot. I've since gotten a posi.
This even helps the posi rear end.

Go halfs on a kit with a friend.
Note: the Regal kit is a little different than the F-bird kit. But I just stuffed the bag into my spring and it works fine.

weld some reinforcements onto your controll arms. Way cheaper than aftermarket ones.
