question about weight
I'm planning on buying camrs89s car, I'm gonna make it a drag/but street legal (well....kinda.....open/plugged long tubes)
I'm gonna try to do this car right, but yet affordable (college student), I'd like to have it driveable in 2 years, and in the 10s in 3
454, bored (.30 probably) forged internals
manual, hopefully t-56, 12 bolt 3.73 rear end (would like to put 2,000 miles on the car a year)
beefed up suspension
totally gutted, no heat, ac. etc., have a dash board, gauges, a shifter (no console) and two front seats, no carpet, trim, etc.
a year later: fiber glass front end, 150 shot of N2O
any body have a weight guess?

Now, when drivable or when you plan on getting it in the 10's?
Don't expect it to be very drivable once it's in the 10's

I'm hoping that the only difference in weight (track and street)will be the front sway bar, and the tires and rims
so am I looking at about 3,100? I weigh 170

I'm not sure if his car has a full cage or not, but you'll need that too along with full frame connectors, or you're going to twist it up like a pretzel. Driving an 11 sec car on the road isn't much fun either. As long as it's a 5 min drive to sit and BS then you'll be ok, but don't plan on any road trips.

Yeah, you are going to need a cage. I was going to do that, but since I'm selling it, I will leave it up to you. If you want to give me some money, I will have the guy install the cage before you get it. Just an idea.
I already have the heater, ac and smog stuff gone so thats taken care of also. Also gone is the stock overflow tank, wiper fluid bottle, and the charcoal canister (correct name??)

If you check my web site you'll see that my car is far from street legal. You wouldn't even want to try to drive it on the street. Gas mileage during racing is around 4 mpg.
I only have a 6 point bar. I don't need a full cage yet but may upgrade to one just to stiffen the chassis up some more. My 6 point bar weighs 70 pounds. It's good to 10.0 because the floor and firewall have not been modified. If I decide to cut the firewall to move the engine back or something then the 6 point bar is only good to 11.0 and a full cage is required to go quicker.
My car is completely gutted. Everything that's not required is gone. The only factory interior left is the plastic dash and dash pad. It just looks better with it in place. I think I could shave off about 10 pounds by removing it though but would have to fabricate an aluminum dash to hold the few gauges I use.
You removed the overflow tank. I'm assuming you have an aftermarket one of some sort. You need a rad overflow tank to go an a track. It can be something simple like a pop bottle secured somewhere but it still needs to be there.
