first time at the trsck!! wow

well i finally went and i had a blast seeing all these monsters... i ran my stock 88 trans am 305 TBI
now i heard my car was gaurenteed a 16 so my goal was 15.99

the first run I went in drive the whole time and stayed out of o/d
i got a 16.177 with a 1.103 r/t
so then i tried shifting and got a poor 16.26 with a r/t of .938

so my reaction times were getting better but i think my trans doesnt shift into 3rd at high rpms.. it slips out.
anyway on my last run I launched in first and once it went to 5000 rpms i shifted into drive and let it shift the rest.. with a r/t of .835.. I got a 16.060!!! so ****ing close!!

I had a great time and next time i'll try brake standing at about 2000 rpm b4 launching and decreacing my reaction time. hopefully i'll get my 15's.

I also have yet to put in my new headers.. plus i want to get posi with better gears that should get my desired time!

Those are some pretty good times. Your car should only have 2.73 gears which would mean that would wouldnt even need to shift to third gear. What mph were you trapping? What were your 60 foots?

lol i know how u feel with gettin into that 15's range. my best time so far is a 16.003. i think a major park was becuz of spinning the tires in 1st gear and i have a few things done and a 3.23 open rear.

oh yeah 2.73= suck.lol
ok here goes the slips all three..first run drive only.
r/t 1.103
60...2.346
330...6.704
1/8...10.336
mph...67.66
1000...13.477
1/4...160177@83.15

then sfifting
.938
2.323 <~~here i got a slower time and
6.757 a faster mph? i must simply suck haha
10.424
67.25
13.560
16.216@84.35

then i turned the fan off and started in first then put it in drive at 5000 rpms... at the end, drive was just about to hit max rpms i was just about at 6000 plus rpms. anyway...

.835
2.360
10.327
68.19mph
13.429
16.060@85.28

so i was kinda consistant but like i said hopefully with better gears and better reaction now that i have a feal for things.. i'll get my 15's

if you could get any traction and get your 60 foot down to 2.0 you would have ran like a 15.3 or 15.4 .thats pretty good for a 305 tbi. remember 1 tenth in front is 2 tenth in the back.so practice and you will see that 15 sec. run.good luck

With those 2.73's and that mph you shouldnt even be shifting into 3rd gear. Try shifting just below 5000 into second and leave it there. Those are good times btw. I say you can easily hit 15's with the right launch and shifting. With some gears and bolt ones you might even be able to run 14's. Good luck!

You shouldnt redline at 85 mph in second gear with 2.73's. If you go slightly over its ok because shifting into third right before the traps will hurt you more than help.
