alright we'll im gonna be making my first ever visit to the track this saturday. We're goin down to US 41 in Indiana to have some fun. I've been reading the boards and think i got a rough idea how to attempt my first ever real launch. Anybody here ever ran here? Did ya like it? Anu comments would help me, even any advice for my first pass would be great
Thanks
Josh
Thanks

If you are running a stock, or close to stock car on street tires avoid the water box at all cost. If you are running in a TPI car, shift no higher than 5000RPM. If you have an auto trans, I would suggest manually shifting it, sometimes you don't get optimum shift points letting it go on its own. Don't wait til you see the green light or you're late. When you see the third yellow light, let it go. Good luck.

awesome thanks, yea it is a TPI car so i'll shift it at 5000 or as i close as i can. Do you recomend a quick dry spin w/o the water box? i'd just heard that it was good to get all the loose junk off the tires....may sound stupid but how far do most tracks give you to slow down? to have to jab on the brakes, or just let it coast for awhile the brake? I know i'll figure this all out when i get there but just trying ot get a heads up.
Yes, I would recommend a quick spin to get any junk/water off your tires. Shut down lane depends on the track. I've never been to the track you're referring to, but, it's usually enough to the point you don't have to slam on the brakes.

The cars an 89 Iroc, with the l98, 700r4, pathetic 2.77 gears, all free mods, k&n's, afpr, airfoil, all new ignition (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil) Edelbrock T.E.S. headers, Magnaflow Cat, Hooker Cat-back, Hypertech chip, 160* chip, and if i get the time before saturday i got march underdrive pulleys wating on the shelf...nothing crazy traction shouldn't be an issue with the 2.77's so i just wanna have some fun, and have a timeslip to show

I'd say mid 14's at least. More than likely low 14's. Those headers will work wonders for you. I had an '88 with 2.77's, and it went from a 15.00 to 14.60 with just headers. And they were crappy headers. You're right on the traction though. My '88 never had a problem til I installed the cam. Check my sig for current running times.

Alright got the pulleys on. One more question for ya, with the 2.77's did you have to shift into 3rd or did you hold it through 2nd? Becuase it just seems to me that when i let the tranny shift itself on the street it goes into 3rd at like 85 at about 4600rpms, and i think i'll be trapping around 90 so i was wondering just how you drove yours, if not i'll try both, see what gets me the better time

alright well i ran it today..and sometime it wouldn't shift into 3rd!!! the stupid thing would be hitting like 5800rpms and wouldn't shift. Anway with it actually shifting into 3rd i ran a best of 14.015@98.36...i was so happy tried all day but couldn't get it into the 13's for this life of me. O well now i know where im at
Wow man nice times! Did you try manually shifting the tranny? And I wouldn't suggest taking you RPM's that high ever again. At least no until you put a different intake on it. If it won't shift, either manually shift it or let out of it, cause if you don't you'll end up breakin stuff. Nice times again man!
