Kills from the track
Got in some track time last night. I made a bunch of hot lap runs to work on my reaction times and thought I'd post up some of my races. I made 10 passes, won 8 and lost 2. I lost to a '93 Cobra with a Procharger running 12 PSI boost, he ran a 12.80 and a LS1 Vette that ran a 13.8. I had the Vette until just past the 1/8 and then he passed me like I was standing still. Kills included a '80's Shelby Charger twice, a couple Fox bodies, a couple imports, a '94 LT1 auto TA that ran a blistering 15.10 and a new SRT-4 Neon that ran a 14.7. My best run was my first a 14.17 @ 98.24 with a 2.030 60 ft. on regular 275/40/17 Nitto's. I miss my old Nitto DR's at the track.

Sounds like some good times, but there is something about the other cars times. The Cobra should be low 12s high 11s with ease, the Vette should be mid to low 13s and the LT1 should have been low 14s or so! Are you at a higher elevation?
Eitherway good runs and some nice kills.

The elevation is very near sea level but the weather was hot and very humid. The track was sticky early but got continually worse as the night wore on. Both the Cobra and Vette had great trap speeds, 114.23 and 108.98 but lousy ET's. I'm also pretty sure the Cobra blew a head gasket, it was smoking pretty bad and the owner had blown one before. Everyone seemed to be running slow. I saw two 96-up Cobra's run a 14.3 and 14.5.

Yeah sounds like a case of traction issues. My car smokes badly too but is due to having bad rings, which could be the case with the Cobra, which isnt much better or worse than a head gasket! The 96 Cobras should have been 13.8-14.2 if they were bone stock!

NO!!! A mustang blowing head gaskets. I used to work at shop that specialized in Fords, and I have never seen so many head gaskets blow. We used to do a lot of blower motors, too. No offense intended to Mustangs, I just think they are the most prone to head gasket failure, especially under boost or nitrous use...

I'm working on a compressor at work that uses an old 302 engine. Left side is a 4 cylinder engine. Right side is a 4 cylinder compressor. The compressor head was cracked. When I pulled it off I was thinking to myself, There sure isn't many head bolts. Only 10 bolts hold the head on. I can see why they blow gaskets.

My car blew a head gasket at 110,000 miles! I havent even heard of any of my friends blowing ones and some have 150,000 or more miles. I can see what you mean though, but hey I have many more to go before 220,000!

Yeah, it's recommended that power adder 5.0's have the block machined for o-rings. If memory serves, they only have 4 bolts around each cylinder to a Chevy's 5.
