Spec Clutches....
anyone over here using a spec clutch???
how is it?
how is it?
Don't have any experience with Spec but I thought I would pass this a long.
I noticed you h ad the 10.5-153 tooth flywheel...Mcleod makes a special trick Pressure Plate(B&B, Diagrahm, long versions) that allows for the use of an 11" Clutch Disc on the small flywheel, so you get the advantage of the small rotating mass of the small flywheel and the benifits of the bigger clutch.
I have one on mine(B&B), clutch pedal is nice and firm, not outrageous, and it holds but I'm only running 280-300hp or so. But I did ask the guy if this clutch would hold 450Hp motor that I evntually plan to build in a couple years and he sorta chuckled, and said yea no problem. I have never heard a bad thing about Mcleod.

thats pretty cool.....only problem with them is they tend to be pretty pricey.
i like that idea of the 11" disc on the smaller flywheel, id like to see how it goes together first.
im not sure what its rated at, but im making about 410hp at the wheel....so around 500 at the flywheel.

I'd recommend an SFI clutch, bellhousing and flywheel to anyone with any kind of performance. The stock cast iron clutch and flywheel can easily explode when too much power is put into them. Pay the extra money with the knowledge that you won't destroy your car or do injury to yourself when parts fail.
It's the same as a driveshaft loop. Just because you're not running quick enough to need one doesn't mean you shouldn't use one.

If you look at your flywheel there is a 1/2 inch all the way around between where the 10.4 disc sits and where the bolt holes in the flywheel are. It only has to go 1/4 of an inch out further to accomdate an 11" clutch. It really isn't too complicated, they just supply these bolts with small shoulders on them so they do not interfere.

it's only running 12.9's@ 106 right now, i got a high rpm miss/bog fall on its face thing going on that i think is the valve springs. Once thats sorted out it should be getting down into the low 12's.
60's are 1.90 on bfg dr's with a pretty much bone stock suspension. I have a set of et drags, but i've never gotten a 60' with them. the first time i went to the track with them, i revved it to 5000 rpm, and side step the clutch, and the rear end went BOOM. 9 bolts are stong my ***.....

FYI- the spec stg 3 is sfi approved, as is the centerforce flywheel i run....

I dont currently have a spec clutch, but have heard really good things about them. The stage 3 clutch from what I hear is the next step down from the mcleod twin (twin is the mac daddy). When my car was a 6spd I used the mcleod street kevlar/asbestos dual friction and I loved it. It held up no prob to several 6500+ dumps on et drags, and it wasnt very expensive either. (around 350 i think) No matter which one you choose, youd have good luck with either one.
