What front tires for drag racing?

I have nitto drag radials on the back permanently. I don't drive the car except on weekends and go to the track about once per month. I need new tires on the front. It has the wide Goodyear tires that came stock with the 91 Formula. They are fine I guess, but I was wondering if I should by some less wide tires for the front. Woudl I get any benefit for drag racing? I guess because they are lighter. I don't do any road racing or drive in the rain, but I do drive arount sometimes, cruising. Those little front drag racing tires would be kind of extreme I guess. Waht do you all suggest?

Depends on the size of the front rims. When I put new tires on my truck, it originally had 265/60r15 all the way around. I didn't want the wide tire on the front and searched around and finally found a 70 series tire tall enough to use as a replacement. I use an 8" rim on the rear and a 7" rim at the front.

If you have a skinny 3 1/2" front rim, you use the Volkswagon tires as front tires. 165R15. They'll outlast any aftermarket frontrunner tire.

The biggest advantage for a narrow tire on the front is weight reduction. After that it's rolling resistance. Smaller tires don't have as much rubber on the ground and will take less energy to roll.

Well I have the stock 16" formula rims on the front, and I don't honestly know what width they are. I do have the formula WS6 which has disk brakes all the way around. What size rims would fit those VW tires?
I would like to go with a smaller tire for weight reduction as you say, every little bit helps

You need a 3 1/2" or 4" wide 15" rim for the volkswagon tires. Your 91 should have the larger aluminum caliper disk brakes. Those might have problems fitting a 15" rim over them.

I have the Weld Prostar 3 1/2" X15 on the front with 165R15 radials on them.

The front of my car sits pretty low with the 165R/15's on it though.

What about this tire? Micky Thomspson sportsmen, probably 26" diameter I guess. It is 6.3" wide and it says its "one of the narrowest tires ont he street. ARe the tires you have been referring to here street legal? I don't do a lot of stree driving, but I want to keep it street legal.

Does anyone know if a 15" rim will fit over the disc brakes?

The Weld Pro Star 15 x 3.5's will fit over stock calipers.

Yes the 165R15's are street legal. They're used on old Volkswagons and some tire shops still have them in stock.
