Will locking up converter in 3rd help mph?

I am just thinking about this race that I ran against a '02 viper where he just beat me(86 Camaro) by about half a car length, I was wondering if I had locked up the converter would I have had a better top end charge at the very end of the 1/4 mile. I ran a 12.6 he ran a 12.4 , I took him off the line and tought I was going to win but he got there .2 seconds before me ! AS far as the times being what they are , we are at almost 4000ft elevation. This time system is brand new at Desert demonz at still trying to work out the kinks. Alot of the info is not there that u would normally expect for a time slip. It just gives u the 1/4 mile time and mph but not always. Well back to why I am posting, would it help to lock up the converter in 3rd gear? I was at 6500 rpms maybe 6800rpms at the end line. My sig. has all my specs thanks

Well, I guess I just need to try it out tonight. I will also eliminate weight tonight before I run. Nitrous bottle(which I am not using), some tools , extra cross flow muffler w/ tips(makes it look legal), and heater core are coming off. I will try some skinnies up front.

Works for me. When I was stockish, it was worth .2 and 2mph. On the dyno it was worth 10rwhp and 10rwtq.

I lock mine around 95mph, feels just like another gear change.

Hopefully I can get as good results. I just have a feeling a can get into the 11's . I am also thinking of removing my sways bars , hopefully providing better traction.

I don't deal with lockup converters so I have no idea if it will help or not.

Lockup converters are designed to reduce the small percentage of converter slip when cruising at highway speeds. By eliminating the slip, the engine is more efficent at transfering power at a reduced rpm which produces better fuel mileage.

On a drag strip, the engine is constanly operating over the converter's stall point. Theoretically if the converter is locked, there should be a little more power getting to the rear wheels however the lock mechanism inside the converter isn't very strong in a factory style converter. If it was an easy way to go faster, aftermarket manufacturers would have devised a way for drag racers to use this feature more.

If it's really worth it I can't say. Some people claim to see an improvement others don't see anything.

I have a few buddies that have used this on there 200-4rs.
Seems to be worth about .1 and 2mph. Will have to try it next year.
